It's a brand new day... Welcome to Part 1146 of the Soulful Spike Society Main Thread, where we know the status is not quo, but we do all we can to change that.
Is the world finally growing wise? Well, sometimes, but I like to think we're full of wisdom and insight here in S'cubieland. Wanna share deep thoughts about narrative skills and epic plot lines? Discuss it in the I Love, Love, LOVE TV thread for some awesome TV talk, as well as show threads for shows like Doctor Who, Dollhouse, and our ongoing love of our original shows: Buffy and Angel.
If you like to check out some of our own S'cubie achievers, head on over to the Command Center! We have neither a Hammercycle nor a Hamjet, but we do have fanfic, pretty pictures, and reviews.
Prepare to be crushed, however, if you post spoilers in this thread. They belong in the Spoiled Souls thread; if you want to talk about casting spoilers, the little ghosty button above is for you and if you want to talk about a show that just aired, please mark in BIG LETTERS.
The world is a mess, and we just need to discuss it. Check out our Open Topics Thread.
Enjoy, S'cubies!

FIRST! Nice opener, Erin1 (any word on the job apps?) Thanks, sweetie! Hmm, well, still haven't heard from that one where I was a semi-finalist, but I have been rejected from two universities in England. I'm still sending out as many applications as I can.

So I took the girls to the polls with me yesterday afternoon.
When we drove up toward the polling place, I pointed out the directional signs and the flags, and also how the political signs had to be a certain distance away.
Once we got in, they watched the poll worker check my name and signature and such, and then they listened to her give me my voting instructions. I asked if the girls could watch me vote, and she said yes.
So they went into the little kiosk with me, and watched me fill in the ovals with black ink. We use paper ballots that you fill out, then feed into the scanning machine. They asked questions and were surprised by how many names were listed for president, and by the fact that you could write in a name.
They also saw that there were several people running unopposed. In the back were the Issues, and one was a school tax levy, which interested them.
They asked some questions on the ride home, and even the elder one, who had expressed disdain, started to sound like she just MIGHT be interested in voting when she got old enough.
So no matter what happens with these two in the long run, I'll know that I've given them exposure to things they'd otherwise know little to nothing about.

I hope one of them grows up to be ..... well, anything. Did you see that the percentage of under 30's voting went UP from 2008. I think maybe 18% to 19% but still ... pundits thought it might drop off due to lesser "enthusiasm." And you can't assume all are Dems -- my kids have a boatload of under 30 friends who are Republicans, mostly due to financial concerns. [Further discussion can go over to the OT thread but I just don't think that a bare recitation of factual statistics needs to be on the opinion thread. Maybe discussing whys etc does but I don't believe that this is a partisan comment.]

Hmmmm* *Checks charge on Mr Bolty* *Hooks Mr Bolty up to generator as additional power source* *Flips switch, stands back and watches* *Generator sputters, sparks fly, then settles down.* *Vibe O Meter rises, needle spins around dial a few times. Needle settles at... infinity* There. That oughta do it.

Remember when I mentioned I'd been short-listed for a job? Well, I wasn't short-short-listed. Just heard today. Sorry to hear that, Erin. Thanks for letting us know. Doing OK? Now that the S'cubies don't have to be directing so many vibes toward the presidential election, we can redirect more toward your job hunt! And I'm vibin' away.

Kind of bummed, but I'll survive. I've got a bunch more applications out there...and there are two I really really would love: the Paris one I mentioned in the last part, and a certain university with a leprechaun mascot. You know, if you want to narrow down the vibes...
