"Kaleidoscope" at the author's LJ---sadly, it is white on black and small font, but worth the effort to highlight or copy over. penny-lane-42.livejournal.com/35486.htmlOr, if you don't mind frequenting the site, it's also posted at fanfiction.net and far more readable. www.fanfiction.net/s/4347012/1/KaleidoscopeStarts mid season 5 AtS and goes to post NFA. 7000 words, rated T (not sure why) brief appearances by most BtVS characters, but it's primarily a Buffy and Spike fic----but thoughtful---about how their meeting and relationship might actually play out. The author also writes: Author has written 61 stories for Harry Potter, Lost, C. S. Lewis, L M Montgomery, Battlestar Galactica: 2003, Firefly, That 70's show, Almost Famous, Veronica Mars, Supernatural, Friday Night Lights, Black Donnellys, Gilmore Girls, Heroes, TV X-overs, and Buffy: The Vampire Slayer I think I'll be checking out some of her other stories. As the saying goes, ?style=mine is your friend. penny-lane-42.livejournal.com/35486.html?style=mine changes the white on black to lj default style, which is black on white. This works on Live Journal; Insane Journal is more amenable to ?format=light. Any hidden links of mine are modified by ?style=mine unless the writer is already kind enough to have a readable lay-out. And unreadable layouts which are hard-coded don't get read, and therdefore don't get recommended. I'm done blowing my eyes on trying to read fancy layouts. Julia, it's also so really 1998.

Last year, NWHepcat wrote a grand post-Not Fade Away Xander fic- How Trantor and Tarzan Became Friends- where Xander saves Fred from Illyria, or saves Illyria from herself, and it ends with a discounted "an everyone lives happily ever after" because Wes? Not so much. Most recently, she's also written a story that goes AU in AtS s1, where the Council's wet works guys stake Angel and capture Faith: that one didn't turn out well for <i>anyone</i>. So now, to heal the wounds, she spent the last month or so posting Recalled To Life where Buffy bustles in, won't take No for an answer, and kindly and helpfully kicks Wess in the ass and sets him off on a path to make use of the life Illyria saved for him. Every time Wes says "You wouldn't understand" he's proved wrong. No romance, but the best kind of Buffy, optimistic and wry and helpful and with sufficient horror stories of her own to yank Wes out of his egotistical gloom. Link goes to memories; Hepcat says she's updating her site soon, and I will note that in the Archives thread when it happens. Julia, Happy New Year, and may 2009 be substantially less vexacious.

I resolved to write a new recommendation every day (not counting any NWHepcat serials) and today Hepcat makes it easy with BtVS/SPN crossover, where Casteil and Faith meet bloody. "Like a White Winged Dove" PG for violence and religious discussion. Great piece of fluff, and a nice little punchline. Julia, no pairing, of course.

Hotter Than Hell and Twice as Big is another SPN crossover, this one with AtS; Sam and Dean are hunting in Texas and find somebody who's been there, done that. NWHepcat, gen, warnings for Dr. Pepper Pecan Pie. Julia, my teeth ache at the thought

LJS, Giles/Anya, R, brief scenes from Grave to Chosen ringing the changes on BtVS s5, 6&7 to make a sweeter song, Don't Know Much about History: some arguments never end. Julia, and a good thing, too.

I don't think I've seen this posted here, but apologise in advance if it has been and I've missed it. Spike/Buffy fic by the incomparable Nautibitz. First posted in her (locked) fic community on LJ, but now available on her website. Title: Don't StopAuthor: NautiBitz Summary: Pre-'Becoming', Buffy and Spike duke it out in a ghost town saloon. Throw in a lasso, a mechanical bull, an acid-spewing sewer beast, top-shelf whiskey and a Journey song, and the sex just writes itself. Pairing/Rating: Spike/Buffy, NC-17/M (not for kids) Timeline: Season 2, somewhere between 'Passion' and 'Becoming'. Angel is evil, Jenny Calendar is dead, Spike doesn't need his wheelchair anymore -- but no one knows that yet. The outfit Buffy wears is a lot like this one in 'I Only Have Eyes For You'. It's a good look for her, don't you think? Genres: Comedy, Smut, Romance, Awesomeness Author's Note: I'm kidding about the sex just writing itself. Just kidding, the sex always writes itself. Series Started/Completed: May 2008/Nov 2008. Because I can't stop believing, apparently. Warnings: Spike is unchipped and evil. Buffy is 17. They have sex anyway. Rough, kinky (consensual) sex. You've been warned. Enjoy!

Lori, goddess of Ganya fic, has a new future fic set in the "Inquisitions and Aquisitions" verse. Hay Fever shows us a country weekend at Swallow's Nest, where the Giles' family is one again imposed upon by the Council of Watchers and the otherworld, as well as by their own pasts. R-ish, long, full of plot, character, and sensory delights. Julia, and finished nine days ago, when I was tied up in smaller, harder knots than usual, even.

Thank you for the rec, Sue! Also Ran is a wonderful story! I have some recs: these are the fics posted in June. The Worst Journey in the World by ShapinglightCompleted, R, 5 years post-NFA. Ignores comics continuity except for a vague suggestion that Buffy is the head of some kind of quasi-military organisation. Wesley Wyndam-Pryce, who had been resurrected by W&H, offers Buffy and Spike to take part in the mission to prevent the end of the world. Be warned, it's not a shippy fic, per se - but it's a fascinating story, full of twists, turns and kickass action. For Spike: A List by deird1One-shot, G, future!fic. Dawn tries to convince Spike that he should behave when she introduces her boyfriend to Buffy and him. Hysterically funny! (No, seriously. A must-read). Five Times People Noticed Xander's Bruises Didn't All Come from Patrol by DipenatesOne-shot, R. Xander/Cordelia, Xander/Faith, Xander and Angel, Xander and Spike, Xander and Oz Fix Me be ducktheduckOne-shot, PG-13, season 4. Gen. The Initiative did an experiment on poor Spike... an experiment much worse than chipping him! Hysterically funny. Soul Drinker by Hello_Spikey part 1, 2, 3Completed, PG-13, AtS season 5. Gen. An anti-W&H vigilantes use a magic dagger - "the soul drinker" - to de-soul Angel and to avoid the apocalypse mentioned in the Shanshu prophecy. In an ironic twist of fate it's Spike who gets de-souled... Witty, sharp, inventive blend of humor, drama, philosofical musings and spot-on character voices. Bad Ideas by KallystenCompleted, NC-17, Post-Crush. Spike/Angel. Drusilla, rejected by Spike, wishes the Slayer had never come to Sunnydale. A string of Bad Ideas to bring Angel and Spike together, ensues. A Letter From the Grave by dampersnspoons Completed, R, post-NFA. Buffy gets a letter Spike has written before the final battle. She contacts Charles Gunn and finds out that Spike has probably died in the battle... Anticipation by 2writers4spike (aka mabel_marsters & dawnofme) WIP, NC-17. After completing his trials in African cave, Spike finds himself back in 1977, reeling from a newly acquired soul. Meanwhile, in Sunnydale, Dark!Willow sends Buffy back into the grave... Promising start for what looks like an intriguing plotty fic. Angel's Day Planner Sans Soul (or Thwarted Obsessions of an Unsouled Vampire) by annegablesOne-shot, PG From Innocence to Becoming, an insight into Angelus' mind. Brilliantly creepy. Fair Dinkum by deird1One-shot, PG. Somewhere in the beginning of season 5, Buffy reads a book “Slayers of the Early 20th Century; A Study” and discovers interesting facts about slaying and Australia... Fun! Date Night by LynnenneSpangel one-shot, PG, future!fic. Spike and Angel discover the term "bromance". The Very Secret Diary of Edith the Bloody by bruttimabuoniOne-Shot, PG, season 2 through the eyes of Miss Edith. Going Native by BogwitchPG, post-Chosen. PG. Buffy tries to impress Giles with her newly-found English manners and serves him tea... Fun!
