Posted by Karen:David Boreanaz staked any chance of Angel in the near future From Moviehole.net - 2005-02-20th David ’Angel’ Boreanaz got talking to Phase9 about the possibilties of anything ’Angel’ in the near future. Not surprisingly, he staked any chance of a tube offering. "There won’t be a series. If anything it would have to be a big screen feature as far as getting me back involved into playing this character again for raising the bar and the level to where it has to be. I think going back and doing an extended series on it or something to further it maybe a little bit longer would most probably jeopardise it or maybe even taint it in a way that may hurt it. And I won’t want to do that", he says. "I mean unfortunately for the fans at the same time the door was so left wide open the way they ended this season and this show I think was a great way". Instead, says Boreanaz, he’s working on a few non-vampiric projects. "I just did, I’ve done 3 movies so far. I’ve done a romantic comedy with Alana and Paul Sorvino. It’s called "Mr Fix It". Then I did a film called "The Hard Easy" with Bruce Dern and Vera Farmiga". He adds, "Peter Weller was in it. I play a neurotic stockbroker who is out 4 million dollars and is selling bonds to diamond heists. And I’m working on a film called "These Girs" with Caroline Dhavernas. I don’t know if you know her. She’s a very talented actress. I play a stoner kind of guy. It a black comedy". Boreanaz also added that ABC has picked up his new series about the life of undercover hit man Jack Ballantine. www.buffy.nu/article.php3?id_article=8463

I'm posting these excerpts from the David Fury, Tim Minear interview on the Succubus Club. Mary sent me the transcript of the interview. No spoilers, just cool stuff here.
"James will be a regular. They're asked to talk about the decision to bring him on. Fury says "it was a no brainer." Says that whether it was going to be Faith or the SiTs, they were going to "keep James employed." He was going "to be the second lead in the Faith one and the male lead in the School for Slayers one. Whatever was going to happen, James was going to be part of it because we love him dearly." One of the hosts says, lmao: "As do we." Fury says that he's gotten some hate mail recently about how "Spike has ruined Buffy! Whatever." Minear popped in with a "Whatever" too and said "What they don't know is that you ruined Buffy." Fury sounded peeved about that criticism and Minear thought it was funny, too. They obviously completely dismiss that idea as ludicrous, like I do. They're now joking that Fury has done his best to ruin AtS too. Fury: "James coming to the show will I think-" and then he's cut off from the gushing compliment he was going to give. Host: "um...he IS coming as Spike, right?" Then she asks if he's coming back as Spike's evil twin. Fury: "No, he's coming back as Spike." Host: "Is he going to be some sort of weird foil for Angel. I mean, he's not going to be a villain, right?" Minear: "We haven't really worked that out yet." Fury: "We haven't worked that out." Minear: "He won't be a foil. I think that's fair to say." Host: "You can't have him in the same scene with Angel without some tension..." Minear: "We talked about bringing Spike over...we were actually going to do a Faith spinoff, but since that's not happening, I'm going to go do Wonderfalls. I actually figured that out with Joss....After that fell through, we definitely were going to bring James over to Angel for some episodes. It was not really our intention to make him a regular. However, that really was one of the things that really pushed the network to pick up the show." Fury: "The networks pretty much...That was the ah, that was what clinched the deal with the network." Minear: "If you make him a regular and the show gets picked up...So, well, we love James. We think he'd be a tremendous addition and we want the show to get picked up." Host: "So it all worked out." Fury/Minear: "Yeah!" Minear: "Nothing that we have done for season 5 for Angel, none of the plans we have made, none of the sets up that we have done are anything other than what we would have done anyway." Fury: "Yeah we didn't compromise. There's been no compromise. The worst compromise we made: more James. That's the compromise. We have to have more Spike which is hardly a compromise. Oh darn." Minear: "Yeah, darn." (they're joking) The hosts ask if James gets second billing and they both say they don't know, then joke that Fury will get second billing."
And this... " Now they're talking about the whole Spike/Conner/Cordy cast mix up, and they get very serious and earnest here-- Minear: "I do want to say that I have seen some talk on the internet that people believe that we have pushed certain cast members OUT to make room for Spike and that is FALSE." Fury: "Not true." (he's agreeing with Minear) Minear: "Nothing...no other changes in the cast have anything to do with James. The way Conner's story ended was the way we wanted to end Conner's Story. We loved Vincent and it was just the way the story wanted to tell itself."
And this.... "They talk about women -- Say they love Lilah. Seems she'll be back. They're talking all over each other here... Host: "Is she going to have some sort of relationship with Wesley...as a dead person?" Minear: "I don't know. I mean I wouldn't say..." Fury: "Necrophelia." Host: "Isn't that icky?" Minear: Or not ickier than-" Host & Minear: "Buffy and Angel." Minear: "Exactly. That's necrophelia isn't it? And also child abuse. Oh he's only 240, mom." Fury: "Oh, she was legal." Minear: "She was sixteen." Fury: "Not when they were together." (laughs at the absurdity of this) Minear: "Well, initially, right?" Host: "She turned seventeen." Minear: "Oh see, that's not legal! I don't know what- Fury: "Wait a minute -- that's not legal?" Minear: "No." Fury: "Oh man..." Minear: "You're screwed." *host makes a joke about how Fury has to go call his lawyer. "
And this: "Hosts talk about Season 6. One host defends Season 6. Other host says that the naysayers need to stop harping on the small things when this is all they're going to get of BtVS. They're joking about how people complain... Minear: "What do you think... can you trace it back to when Spike ruined the show?" *joking about how it was School Hard.* "
And last.... " Fury, continuing: "One of the complaints about Spike was that, I guess particularly with LMPTM, was that they felt we were changing the whole vampire mythology, that Spike wasn't a vicious killer when he was a vampire like, how come he was such a nice guy when he was a vampire? How come he was still like William? And I think what we've tried to do, and I thought it was very clear, is that Spike is an anomoly in the vampire world. It's not a matter of we're bending the rules arbitrarily. We've tried to say from the very beginning, Spike, you know from the Judge saying to spike 'You reek of humanity,' [cut in with Hosts agreeing] um, and his mother saying to him 'you will always be this,' is saying that for whatever reason Spike, Spike is something special. Spike retained enough compassion. Some part of his soul is still was always there that allowed him to fall in love with Buffy where no vampire-. " Host: "Or have love with Dru." Fury: Or fall in love with Dru." Fury: "So that...you know I don't think what we've done...what we've done with Spike. I don't think we've undermined his character at all. I think that-" ...Fury: "Yeah yeah! No, that's no question, but, I think that there was like an emotional-. I think the fact that Spike is so sentimental I think is part of the issue with people. Say, How can a vampire without a soul be-" Host: "Have so much emotion." Fury: "-care about his mother like the way he cared about her. And the fact of the matter is that with Spike-. ..Granted, we've shown vampires in various lights, including, including Webster, to be, you know, his character. But with Spike, I think that he is -. I think that what makes him so interesting as a character, is that there's something different about him. There's something different. When Angel was a vampire, he was this Angelus. When Spike was a vampire, he was able to fall in love with a Slayer. In his twisted way." Host mentions that Jane mentioned that Spike was not a bastard like Angel was when he was human. William was not that way. He was not a total a-hole. He was sentimental sap. Minear, agreeing: "He was a sensitive, bad, poet." Host: "Exactly." "
Cool stuff, eh?

Well, I'll add a little more of the interview here about that(David Fury's attitude) ...
"Fury: "Yeah, yes. Yeah, they find all these agendas in there when it just simply no. It was just storytelling. Spike-. Buffy-. Spike provided Buffy with an emotional throughline that she wouldn't have had else, otherwise. I mean, um Angel was gone. Angel was on his own show. She needed to have someone and making it her mortal enemy was an interesting way to go. I mean I have been very vocal, obviously, about the Buffy and Spike relationship. I've had my own problems. I've defended it on a lot of levels." Hosts are agreeing all along, and one says: "You've also worked through those things." Fury: "I've worked through it. I've worked through it! I've always tried to work through it in the episodes that I do. I've tried to, again, rationalize it. And I totally-" Minear laughs a little at Fury's earnestness. (I love him) Fury: "Well, that's what I'm doing. I'm rationalizing. If I have a problem with this particular direction, I'll work my way through the episode where it makes sense to me where I go now I know why Spike would be feeling this." "

Posted by Rae:Disclaimer from Rae: Patti's Succubus Club Interview Post originally appeared in a different thread. In the meantime, to consolidate posts about interviews, we created this thread. Patti agreed to repost her original messages in this new thread but the replies have now been combined into one post. Each original author is noted in bold below. Thanks! From JulieA: Ah ha! found it. ;D I'm getting better and better. This is a cool interview. From Patti in response to Julie: Yes it is! I love reading neat things about Spike and James. I knew about the Faith spinoff plan but not the SIT one, which we had certainly speculated about. And all that about Spike's character. Just loved it. From Julie A: It seems like David Fury is much less anti spike now. I wonder what happened. From Lee Hollins: Thanks Patti, for posting this! You're a doll!! From Becky H.: What a great interview. I'm relieved that they explained how Spike, even as a newly-sired vampire, still retained his feelings for his mother because that was definitely a contradiction of Giles' description of a vampire as (paraphrase) a demon just wearing your face and memories. Do you suppose the Club will continue with just AtS on the air? From Patti in response to Becky: Yes, the Succubus Club will continue.(the website says) They will discuss Angel eps. I expect they will change their air time, since they air during Angel currently! By the way, the website is: www.thesuccubusclub.com/dyt/index.html

Posted by LeeHollins:Buffy Star Will Soon Marry [/center] by Angel Cohn When Buffy the Vampire Slayer wrapped last May, Emma Caulfield was eager to shed her persona as Anya, the self-centered ex-vengeance demon. She wanted to try something different. Instead, she ended up reconnecting with her former 90210 beau, Jason Priestly. They happily reunited to make the ABC Family romantic comedy I Want to Marry Ryan Banks (Sunday at 8 pm/ET). "I love that man so much," Caulfield tells TV Guide Online. "He is just one of those people I am so grateful that I met. He is really just one of the good ones. "It was like no time had gone by whatsoever," she continues. "We just picked up right where we left off. And we just had such a good time. He's just lovely and I always wanted to work with him again. We had really good chemistry on Hills. How great that is, because it is rare that you have proven chemistry with someone." In Ryan Banks, Caulfield plays Charlie, who competes on a reality show to date a famous actor played by Priestly. In a twist, she falls for Banks' best friend and manager, Todd, who's portrayed by former Alias hottie Bradley Cooper. Off screen, Caulfield had to compete for the attention of her handsome costars. "[Cooper] is really talented, and so funny. He and Jason just got along like childhood friends," she recalls. "They just immediately clicked. They had a total little man-crush on each other. But the two of them just made me laugh, and the three of us spent a lot of time together." Sounds like Caulfield isn't missing Anya too much. However, she was pleased with the way she ended her Buffy run. "I liked her dying," she admits. "I thought that was very poetic. To sacrifice herself for somebody else was so her whole point. [She went from] being so totally selfish and self-focused to giving the ultimate sacrifice of her life, which was just a beautiful bookend [to her story]."[/color] www.tvguide.com/news/insider/040115b.asp

Posted by LeeHollins:Will Angel Unite This Duo? by Daniel R. Coleridge
Fans of Angel are wondering if Wesley and Fred will ever couple up. The British bookworm and the mousy lab rat — as played by Alexis Denisof and Amy Acker — definitely have a geek love thang goin' on, don't they? It's not all about the vampires on this show, after all. But like everything on this Buffy spin-off, it's, well, complicated.
"Wesley's always had a thing for Fred, but she keeps breaking his heart by being interested in other people," Denisof tells TV Guide Online. "So who knows where that will go."
"I'm bound to hook up with one of these guys that I've been flirting with soon," Acker teases, speaking in character. "I've been flirting with Spike a little. I have a lab assistant guy named Knox that I hook up with now and then. You haven't seen anything, but we always go off and get beers together, so..."
But what about Wes? "Wesley thinks that something's happening with him," Acker giggles. "I'm still leading Wesley on a little bit. I'm trying to keep my options open. I think that whole thing when he messed around with Lilah hurt Fred's feelings. I felt betrayed by that because he went off and had sex with this bad girl and made her dress up like me. That was weird!"
Yet TV teaches us there's always hope for star-crossed lovers. "I think that I'll end up with Wesley," Acker says. "It's destined. They've kept this going on for three and a half years now, so it seems like there's got to be a payoff there, right? Then again, [Angel creator] Joss Whedon likes to make people suffer, so there's a good chance it'll never happen! But if I had my way, I'd like to do lots of scenes with Alexis Denisof, because he's so fun to work with."] www.tvguide.com/news/insider/031209c.asp

Posted by LeeHollins:From Zap2It.com: The 'Wicked Prayer' of 'Angel's' BoreanazBy Kate O'Hare LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Fans who've tuned in to the fifth season of The WB's Wednesday-night drama "Angel" may have noticed a new look for star David Boreanaz, who plays the title character, a do-gooding vampire with a soul. After many years with a short spiky, gelled 'do, Angel now sports a smooth, combed-back style. "Just a little slicker look for him," Boreanaz says. Part of the makeover was inspired by the actor's look when he came back from summer hiatus. Those who attended The WB's summer press party in July saw a buff Boreanaz with swept-back long hair, fresh off the set of "The Crow: Wicked Prayer," the fourth film in the "Crow" franchise. "It was longer than that in the movie," he says. "It was really untamed." Boreanaz plays Luc Crash, the leader of a satanic biker gang who murders a young man named Jimmy Cuervo (Edward Furlong) and his girlfriend, Lily (Emmanuelle Chriqui), as part of a ritual to turn Crash into an immortal demon (honestly, wouldn't it just have been easier for Angel to bite him?). In true "Crow" tradition, Cuervo rises from the dead to take revenge. Tara Reid, Dennis Hopper and Macy Gray also star. "I was a bad guy," Boreanaz says. "He was the leader of [this gang called] The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, an ex-con. It was great. I had a lot of fun. It was a hard-paced film. We shot in 23 days. It was not an easy shoot. "But from what I hear from the trailer, it looks great. I've seen a little bit of dailies, I'm happy. Dimension Films is happy. It could breathe some good life into a franchise that's been dead for a while." Although Angel is usually a good guy, every now and then he loses his soul for a while, and Boreanaz gets to let his bad boy out. In "Wicked Prayer," it was his full-time job. "He was more than a villain," Boreanaz says. "I liked the dialogue; I liked the setting; I liked the script. I just really liked the role. It was juicy. I like being bad. He's two different guys. He's an ex-con that becomes the Antichrist, so you've got two different roles that you're playing." Besides, it meant that Boreanaz didn't have to figure out what to do with himself between seasons of "Angel." "I'm trying to fill in the gaps as best as I can," he says. "I enjoy it. Look, I love the work, and I love working. I can go on vacation for about a week, and that's it. I'm bored. There's only so much swimming you can do or recreational sport. You just gotta keep going."[/color] tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve_main/1,1002,271|84200|1|,00.html

Joss Whedon is working with the former writing staff of Buffy the Vampire Slayer to provide stories for the Dark Horse Comics miniseries Tales of the Vampires, the Comics Continuum Web site reported. "With Joss and the other writers from the show including Brett Matthews—who's gone on to write some high-profile stuff for Marvel—it's basically a show reunion just months after the TV show ended, which I think is the thing readers are responding to the most, so far," said editor Scott Allie.
The five-issue series will tell the stories of several vampires across time within the Buffy universe, including familiar characters such as Spike and Drusilla. Whedon has written the first two issues, which will be illustrated by newcomer Alex Sanchez and former Catwoman artist Cameron Stewart. The first issue goes on sale Dec. 10 and will have a retail price of $2.99.www.scifi.com/scifiwire/art-main.html?2003-10/06/09.30.booksFor all the comic book fans out there.

Posted by Karen:West March 25, 2005 'Off Broadway' Baby By Sarah Kuhn Rebecca Moscowitz, a struggling young actor, stands onstage, reciting a carefully memorized monologue. As she goes through her audition, voices talk over her, evaluating her suitability for the part. After a few lines, she is interrupted: "Excuse me, Miss, how tall are you?" About 5-foot-8, she responds, puzzled. "Really? Hmmm. Okay, all right, thank you." As Rebecca slinks offstage, one of the unseen auditioners mutters, "She just looks too damn tall." This is a scene from writer-director Dan Kay's movie Way Off Broadway, a festival favorite focusing on five fresh-out-of-college artists and their struggles in New York City. It's also a scenario that's painfully familiar to aspiring actors everywhere. Morena Baccarin, the twentysomething actor who portrays Rebecca, can sympathize as well as anyone else. "[I've experienced] the usual stuff that I'm sure happens to a lot of people, which is, you prepare, like, 15 pages overnight, and then they say, 'We're only reading the first two pages,'" she says, laughing. " the usual horror stories of how difficult it is to audition in this town. I had to do a fake striptease once. That was pretty awful."
Though she knows firsthand about the struggles of the working actor, Brazilian-born Baccarin has also had a few enviable experiences in her career thus far. She landed an agent while she was still at Juilliard, and she booked the part in Way Off Broadway shortly before graduation. "Morena walked into the room pretty early on in the audition process, and she blew us away," says Kay. "When she left, one of the producers turned to me and said, 'That girl's going to be a star.' I said, 'Without question.'"
Baccarin eventually decided to take the plunge and move to L.A. "I was understudying a lot of theatre--I understudied Natalie Portman in The Seagull in [Central Park]...and I did regional theatre in Minneapolis, but I couldn't get any work in theatre in New York City," she says. "So I thought, 'Well, I need to be on a TV show. I need to first make a living doing what I love to do, and maybe I can get in that way.' I thought, 'Well, I hate L.A., I'm a total New Yorker, [but] it's time for me to face my fears and try something new.'"
It looks like that was the right move. A few days after landing in Los Angeles, Baccarin was cast as serene space courtesan Inara in Joss Whedon's innovative sci-fi western series, Firefly. "My agent said, 'There's something coming in for you this afternoon. It has to be really quick because they've already started shooting. You have to go in for it this afternoon. Here's the sides,'" she remembers. "I contemplated saying no, because I hate doing that. I want to always show my best work, but when I went in there, it just all worked out great. I literally got the job the next day, went down to the set, and started working, like, two days later. It was pretty crazy."
The craziness didn't end there. Despite strong fan support and positive critical buzz, the Fox show was cancelled before it finished its first season. For TV newbie Baccarin, this was a tough experience. "It was my first TV show, so I got extremely attached to it and to the people who were working on it," she says. "I was really hurt and really sad [when it was cancelled]. We all bonded so quickly. I kind of didn't know what to make of it. At a certain point, I think, you harden yourself to the realities of the business. I thought, 'Okay, it's cancelled, I'm going to move on now. I've been hurt by this, I'm not going to let it happen again.'"
Whedon, however, refused to let the project die. In September, Universal will release Serenity, a Firefly feature film that reunites the entire cast. "Joss kept saying, 'This is not over. We're gonna do something,'" remembers Baccarin. "When they called me up and said, 'Do you want to do a movie of Firefly?' I was, like, 'Excuse me?' I couldn't believe it, and I could not have been happier. Shooting the movie was just as much fun as shooting the TV show, if not more, because we had a bigger budget."
These days Baccarin doesn't have a problem getting auditions, but landing the job is still a challenge. And, like "too tall" Rebecca, she gets her share of dubious-sounding excuses. "The lamest excuse that I get incessantly is, 'Oh, we're not going ethnic with that role,' so I can't go in for it or I can't get the part, which is really stupid, because, in today's world, people look different," she says. "And, as you can tell, I'm pretty American. I don't have an accent or anything."
Still, Baccarin is pleased, for the most part, by the way L.A. is treating her so far. "I feel like I go in on a lot of things that I want to be going in for," she says. "I can't complain. I'm making a living out of what I do, which is really rare for a lot of actors. The hard part is staying confident and staying with it."

Posted by deborah:tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve_main/1,1002,271|87989|1|,00.html TV News 'Angel's' Kane Rocks Chicago (Friday, May 07 08:38 AM) By Kate O'Hare LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - The bands play on in the "Buffy"-verse. Adam Busch, who played the evil nerd Warren on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," has a pop/folk band called Common Rotation. James Marsters, who has played the vampire Spike on both "Buffy" and its spin-off, The WB's "Angel," has a rock band called Ghost of the Robot. And Christian Kane, who has a recurring role as conflicted lawyer Lindsey McDonald on "Angel," has a country-rock band called Kane. For Kane, the television and music worlds collide this weekend, as Kane -- the band and the actor-- head for Chicago for a triple bill of events. First up, Kane (the actor) sings "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "God Bless America" at Wrigley Field on Sunday, May 9, to kick off a Chicago Cubs game. "I'll probably be very nervous," he says. "There's a difference between playing to anything between 250 and a couple thousand people to the 30,000 or 40,000 people, whatever that stadium holds." And of course, the fans aren't there for the music. "Shoot," Kane says, "those cats don't care if I'm out there or not. They just want to start the game. I love the Cubs. I grew up on the Cubs. I grew up in Oklahoma, so if the Cubbies were playing, that's what we were watching, especially on WGN. So I am a Cubs fan." Then, the next weekend, Kane (the actor) appears with "Angel" star and good pal David Boreanaz at the Angel/Buffy Fan Event on May 14 to 16 at the Holiday Inn O'Hare International in Chicago. Fans of the actor who are in town for the convention could then see Kane (the band) in concert on Saturday, May 15, at the Pickwick Theatre, an Art Deco movie palace in Park Ridge, Ill., not far from Chicago. "I think David's going to introduce us onstage," Kane says. The band doesn't yet have a record deal, but its CDs can be bought online through the official website, www.kanemusic.com. Offstage, the music also flowed on the "Angel" set. "James and I plug our guitars into these little amps and go back and forth playing each other's songs," Kane recalls. "It was so funny, because James is rock to punk rock, and I'm country to Southern rock. It was like, 'Listen to this one.' We were just playing music, and it goes to show you how universal music really is. "We had time to kill in downtown Los Angeles, it was just me and him the whole night one time, sitting there in each other's trailers. That was a lot of fun." <Flippersmackin' Spoiler I Had no warning about deleted> Before it was all over, Kane realized a wish and got a ripping sword fight with Boreanaz in the 100th "Angel" episode, called "You're Welcome," which aired in February. Kane recalls, "I went to the writers and said, 'You know what, I just got done doing this film called "Secondhand Lions," and I went through two-and-a-half months of sword training.' The writers went, 'Hmmmm,' and I could see the wheels spinning. "So they had me and David throwing swords at each other. That was pretty cool. We should have more. There should be at least three sword fights in every episode." But, Kane didn't love Angel referring to Lindsey as a "tiny Texan." "I got pissed at that. I came up to the director and said, 'This is bulls**t.' He looked at me and said, 'It's not me, Joss [series co-creator Joss Whedon] did it.' Joss likes to take shots at me. He's like, 'I can't build this character up too much without cutting his nuts just a little bit.' "David doesn't call me that in real life. He knows I'm from Oklahoma. I was born in Texas, but I'm a Sooner. The 'tiny Texan' thing is for the birds. I'm stronger than David, bigger than David, I'm just shorter. But, in real life, if me and B. got into a fight we'd better pack our lunch. The kid knows how to throw. He's a bad boy. He's got a temper. We both do." Apparently, Kane enjoys on-set fighting with Marsters as well. "Me and James have a good time. It's fun to work with James, because when we throw each other around the room, he's like, 'Are you OK?' 'Yeah, I'm OK. You can go harder if you want.' 'I can?' By the last take, we're slamming each other into everything. I absolutely love it." Kane recalls being on set in February when word came down that "Angel" wouldn't be picked up for a sixth season. "It was me and James and J. August Richards and Boreanaz, we were the only ones on set when Joss and Kelly [producer Kelly Manners] came in to give us the s***ty news that they weren't picking us up again. It was bad. It was a dark day on the set. "It was like, 'Let's go out like a bang,' and with Joss' writing, that's just what happened. We're not dead in the water here. We're leaving pretty much on top. When we leave, everybody's going to be pissed." deborah
