Maybe Shannon didn't know the English name for it. Altho, why she wouldn't is beyond me. I haven't seen "Finding Nemo". I heard it was good, tho. Is the timing of Finding Nemo correct? I can't remember when she said she had been there but curious if it would be in the timeframe that Finding Nemo was actually out on DVD. It probably was but it could also be why they didn't use the actual name. That would give us some actual concrete dates to work from and the writers may prefer that we just have a 'timeframe'.

Hi all! IMO, Sawyer always gives her a choice -- she didn't have to give up the case in the first place. After she did, the possession = 9/10ths thing kicked in for him. And Locke said the easiest way isn't always the best. (Hmmmm. Locke.) Also: the safe deposit box required two keys. Whazzat mean? Linda, and Hawaii still pretty (with apologies to snow s'cubies) No apologies necessary, Linda. I like living warmly vicariously. Better than nothing. So, 2 keys for the box? More light and dark/2-sided stuff. I agree, too, that Sawyer always seems to give Kate a choice. So why doesn't she give in a little to him, like she does to Jack?

While googling, I noticed that Nemo was captured and put into a fish tank - away from his home - and his father begins a journey to find him.

It was a hot item last Christmas (says the girl with the 4-year-old neice). Huh. I guess I mean Christmas-before-last, now.

**nods really a lot** 'Cuz Jack is good with the distant noble stuff - keeping promises, work to save the patient, look at the group as a whole and make suggestions about survival, run through the jungle to find Claire. But not so much with the actually, you know, talking to people in a caring, personal, way. Unless forced. Because he actually didn't do that bad talking with Rose way back when, on the beach. But now I'm wondering how much of that was Jack and how much was Rose.Very appropriate for a surgeon with a not so warm family background. Lola Now, I'm wondering the same thing. But WHERE is Claire? What did Charlie see? Or was he blindfolded right after he was captured? I don't buy what Boone said about Locke and him out searching for her. They're playing in that metal thing. And Locke doesn't want to share. You know what? New Years' resolutions never work for me.

'Cause if it was summer 2003 then the video thing becomes iffier; I don't think it was released on video until November. However, that doesn't rule out the possibility of a bootleg copy.

I'd have to say her handiness with guns bespeaks some sort of training. Yes, it does. It's very interesting that she employed the same smokescreen with the other survivors--I don't know how to use a gun--that she did with the marks in the bank. More interesting still that she was very careful with her former cohorts not to shoot any of them fatally. Combine that with her refusal to kill the marshall, allowing Sawyer to fire the final bullet, and her breakdown upon seeing the toy plane, and it's pretty clear that no matter why she killed the guy she loved she has absolutely no desire to ever take another life again.

Hi Nicki! I love your theory. And it makes a lot of sense, too. A man she loved could very well be her dad. After thinking about it, I doubt if the plane was in the safety deposit box originally, but put there later. Her personal effects - the only thing she had on her when she was captured. I agree, Karen and Nicki, I'll bet it will turn out she "loved and killed" a man through something she didn't do, or an error, or something. Somehow I get the vibe it won't be because she actually murdered him. Unless it was a mercy killing or something. Oooooh! Like the marshall on the plane! And neeto idea, Karen, that the toy plane is not what was in the box originally. Lola

A real good day, with Spike and Sayid? It wouldn't be you, Lola. It would never be YOU. You're beneath them. No, wait. No getting beneath them! Shoot. No getting beneath? That's cool. I'm fine on top. Lola

Hi all! Wow. It was quiet here last night. I guess everyone was Aliasing. Neat comments so far, though. Thanks especially to Karen for "Beyond the Sea" lyrics. (And Erin: *snerk* Sack & Loone) Just a few post & run thoughts: Firstly: Kate and Sawyer are *fun.* They really do seem to have a connection. They can make each other smile and laugh. And they consistently watch each other's back(sides). Although Sawyer may be Season Six Spike-y: willing to help his lady, but wanting too much -- as well as being a work-in-progress kind of guy. (BTW: Agree with y'all that Sawyer should have taken off his pants for the sake of equity.) ;D Kate and Sawyer really click much more than Kate and Jack. They are much more similar. Which makes for more sparks, but both in a good and bad way. The main problem is that Kate keeps putting Jack on some kind of special "better than Sawyer (and me)" box and that keeps pushing her toward being harsher than she should be with Sawyer. None of which actually gets at the really important issue of why didn't they have Sawyer drop trou!!! I see no problem with the issue of going commando (another fine trait to share with Spike) 'cuz they could do a nice camera shot from, um, behind him. **gazes into distance for a bit** Heck, they did it on NYPD Blue all the time! Eetah on all of this with a big side order of "wow" on the Locke and lock connection. Actually, it's not that unusual for Sawyer to offer a choice, but very few folks are coming at him that way. (Except my man Hurley!) They keep coming at him with threats and ultimatims. Yep. The whole Boone and Shannon dynamic is much more complex than I thought at first. And it looks like we'll be learning more about them in the next ep, if you can believe previews. Hawaii very much pretty. Lola

I've been pretty busy lately dealing with car stuff and an ice storm but, since we had power, I was able to watch this episode.
I can help with the French song. The English version that Karen found, Beyond the Sea, is based on a French song from the 40's by Charles Trenet called simply La Mer and the lyrics are very different. I'll get to that in a minute but I also happen to have a French copy of Finding Nemo and so knew immediately what Shannon was talking about. Nemo was released in French theatres last December but I don't know for sure when the video was available; I do know that Europe often gets stuff released earlier than the States.
Ok, the lyrics: In French, they're much more enigmatic than the English song. I'll give the French so you can compare it to Sayid's notes and then I'll give you a rough translation.
The sea That one sees dancing along the clear gulfs With silver reflections The sea The reflections changing Under the rain
The sea Under a summer sky mixed with Its white sheep With the angels so pure The sea, shepherdess azure and Infinite
See Close by the ponds These tall wet reeds See These white birds And these rusted (rust-colored?) houses
The sea Cradled them Along the clear gulfs And with a song of love The sea Cradles my heart for life
I'm going to suggest that it's important that they used the French version and not just because the notes were made by the Crazy French Lady. There are some interesting things going on in the French lyrics that just aren't conveyed by Beyond the Sea, (even though I like that song, too, Karen). Just FYI, Kevin Kline does a nice rendition of the French version in French Kiss.
One other thing: I'm with Nicki on Kate's model plane being somehow connected to her father. Didn't Kate say at one point that her father was somehow military? Maybe he was shot down (or something similar) and she holds herself responsible. You heard it here first!

Terrific movie. Rent it as soon as you get a chance. Then be sure to watch all the way through to the very, very end of the credits. My sister's been trying to get me to watch it, like forever! She has a copy, so I'll borrow hers. She's watched it many, many times with her kids. What's at the end of the credits? No, don't tell me. ;D
