A solo post devoted to the fabulousness of Harry Hamlin. Once again you absolutely ruled. Great, great scenes. And I want to give full props to the writers for making Harry everything he was in Season one. Still on his quest for improvement - psychology degree, reading the Russian Masters (and did anyone catch the second Russian master named - Tolstoy and ?)
I loved the way he was evil and yet still living in his little - well I just snapped, I made a mistake, this is no big deal that I killed Lilly world and yet you could still see that he loved Logan. In his own warped twisted way of course.
I mean I actually started thinking - did Duncan do it for a moment there. That's how good HH was in that scene.
And then all the snarking to Keith, ending on that chilling moment when Keith says I was just showing you how easy it is for me to get to you.
Shiver.
And while we're handing out props - Joss - not bad. Not bad at all. Is it wrong that my favorite part was when he was all gesturing in the background. Hee, hee (visions of numfar were lurking in my brain).
Hey - even Top Model girl didn't suck up the screen.
Methinks that just being on VM challenges everyone to bring their best stuff to the acting table.

A little tidbit for x-philes fan (not something I caught but saw posted elsewhere). RT gave us an x-philies shout out with the rental car place where Joss Whedon worked was called Lariat Rentals. Mulder and Scully rented their cars from Lariat every single week.
And anyone else think the tivo line that Lamb says - that's really going to mess up your Tivo is a shout out to all those that watch Lost and Tivo Veronica Mars. Because I did.
And there was another Tara Reid mention this episode. I think RT enjoys this. After all the shrieking horror at the mention of Tara Reid being cast as Trina last season - now he's just rubbing it in our faces.
Enbom again. As in the writer. Enbom got the fake IDs. Enbom one of the Boatloads of Fun families. Interesting.
I assume most posters know that the title Rat Saw God is the same title (less an s) of one of Rob Thomas' books - Rats Saw God?

Okay,
If few random thoughts:
This ep could certainly have been titled: "A Blast from the Past": *Cliff is back, with mention of history of dealings with V. *Aaron is back *Aaron is back, muddying the waters of last season's mystery *Clarence is back (more on that in a minute) *Abel is back *Abel's daughter is back (sort of) *the ghost of Lilly's murder is back *Dick is back (recent history) *Dick makes mention of Lynn Echolls
====================================
Neptune probably has the highest concentration of EMMs (Emancipated Male Minors) in the universe. So now we are up to: *Duncan---whose parents are both alive and well, just living in another city. Question: is their trial for obstruction of justice over? We never heard any results. *Logan---who really is worse than alone---Mom dead (or still missing); Dad a psycho murderer (I mean, even if he somehow wiggles out of Lilly's murder he still attempted to kill both Veronica and Keith.) **And now Dick and Cassidy---I need to rewatch cause I missed some of the dialogue, but I gathered his dad has to stay out of the U.S., but where is Kendall? She really has no legal authority over the boys. But where are they getting funds? Surely all of the Casablancas assets have been tied up?

Oh, and if you go here: www.tvguide.com/tv/watercooler/default.htmscroll to the bottom and you can vote for the "best show you watched last night" LOST has 54% and VM has 21%. Nobody else even on the radar. This poll appears everyday on tvguide.com under "watercooler" with the shows from the previous night. Which means every Thursday you can vote for VM. Pixi and Rae, et al: get this info out on LJ!

I’ve only seen a couple of clips but I’m so giddy. What an episode! This keeps me going for at least a week. I guess it’s good when an episode makes you to do, um, squeeing noises all the way through. “Do me the courtesy of making it all official”. One word: Dick. They burnt the Echolls house. “That’s going to mess up your Tivo”. Aaron. Totally did not expect their first confrontation to be that kind of confrontation. Yep, and I totally almost believed Aaron for a couple of seconds. (Okay, one word, again): Cliff. But no no no, trying to evict Weevil and his family. Oh, no, no, no. Also, the line up scene – you like me, you really like me. Big hee hee later for Logan on the couch. But everyone so obviously could see that that was not Duncan. Yeah, it is so good to stay unspoiled for episodes like this. Haven’t seen the Clarence Wiedman bits yet. (Sorry for the repetition. Just had to say something . REETA! Missed you on the big board the other day. Just so glad you are here and commenting! Sue

And while we are handing out acting kudos: Go Clarence Weidman. (At this point the guy deserves to have his real name known.) Without losing any of his considerable menace he teams up with Veronica in the most bizarre "buddy movie" pair. Really, I can see Clarence both respecting and admiring Veronica. But he's not at all good for her. Veronica too easily slips into gray areas as it is (brought home by her again telling Keith they should have released the phone call tape)---she surely doesn't need to be encouraged by Clarence to turn a blind eye to whatever is going to happen in Vegas. (Altho, guy killed a young woman for her money and dumped her in an ice cooler---no sympathy there.) And here I thought she really was distraught over his interrogation techniques.

Now, Pixi, I think "snorefest" is a bit harsh. I found last night's "Lost" pretty gripping, in parts. The reality is that more people will watch drying dog dung on ABC than will watch the best-written drama ever on UPN. Please note I'm speaking strictly about the number of viewers on the two networks, and am neither calling "Lost" dung nor "VM" the best-written drama.

Seriously I found it very slow and predictable. The only thing I was actually surprised at was the tailaway woman disappearing without a sound. Other than that . . . . clue me in.

Well, maybe it was one of those times when being spoiled actually enhanced my tension. I kept waiting for the BSD, and everytime "S" was onscreen I'd tense up. Much more than normal, as I never cared for the character.

To each is own...I can't really comment on the boringness or not of last night's Lost as I haven't seen it yet. However, the index of viewers for Lost vs. VM also has something to do with the fact that ABC is carried by all affiliates, and UPN isn't. My old town in MO didn't carry UPN until the 2003-2004 season, which means Buffy fans there missed the last two seasons...so that has something to do with the lower viewership.

Here's the description... "In his first novel Thomas lays bare the pain, awkwardness and humor at the heart of one teenager's search for identity. Steve York has always lived in the long shadow cast by his too-perfect astronaut father. When his parents divorce just before he begins high school, Steve blames his father for the family's break-up, even though he doesn't know all the facts. Life with "the astronaut" (as Steve insists on calling him) is okay for a while as Steve juggles straight-As with a part-time job and hangs out with a wise-cracking crew of artsy, nonconformist cronies, one of whom, Dub, becomes his first love. But Dub's eventual betrayal causes Steve to flee his father's home and take a dive from scholar to stoner. His last chance for academic redemption lies in writing a 100-page paper for his new guidance counselor, a narrative that becomes the framework for this novel. Thomas, a former high school teacher, nails his setting with dead-on accuracy. The sharp descriptions of cliques, clubs and annoying authority figures will strike a familiar chord. The dialogue is fresh and Steve's intelligent banter and introspective musings never sound wiser than his years. Readers will likely enjoy the quick pace of Steve's journal-style flashbacks; on a deeper level, they will be moved by his emotional stumbles and impressed by his growing maturity." Wonder how this relates to last night's episode?

I mean, of all the ways I imagined we might see Logan and his father meet up again, I would never have thought of this. Aaron really did sound so . . . plausible, didn't he? Makes me understand how he has hidden his true nature over the years. I know! That's just lower than low. I need to rewatch this ep again soon! It was just so good!

I have to watch the ep again, and pay more attention to this part. Start trying to put it together with the idea of conspiracy, and groups. The names we've already heard from the Boatloads of Fun thing, the complex threads that probably still reach out from Dick Sr's financial fiddling, etc.
