Possibly the best opening, and one of my favorite episodes of the season... Your sig quotes are killing me here! LOLOLOLOL! Is this the ep with the wife-swapping group? I have it on now, but I'm going to miss the end due to showerage. So far so good, though. And, I don't mind Santana. I cracked up when he introduced himself as Tony Blair. Hee! ETA: Never mind. That is episode 4. Off to that thread to yak.

Check out the edited out opening here. You're right, that was a great opening. Shame they cut it out. I've been watching Gene. What a character. So many reasons to dislike him heartily but every now and again you glimpse the man with the good intentions behind the pig. Like in the closing scene where he and Sam are standing there and the light bulbs go off about Lamb. The utter disgust on Gene's face over Lamb's suspected (accurately) behavior was justified. Gene's methods, though. . ..

Oh my god! They cut out the opening, where he comes out of the music box. Grr... Whaaaaaat? Camblewick Green, my childhood, cut! I know this is favourite opening of yours, but it's so much better when one grew up with that intro as part of a children's lunch-time program. A clever episode (aren't they all?) because there are sequences in which Sam is "unconscious" and not taking part. However, in the ostensible real world of the hospital room where he is a coma patient Sam has been over-medicated, so we can assume that he's having a dream-within-a-dream. Or can we? Heh heh heh.

Interesting twist, with Tyler speeding and hallucinating and generally freaking.
Both Hunt and Tyler making with the dramatic and heartfelt vows. Which are potentially contradictory. And which show how, for all their very real differences, they also have some core similarities. Cool!
Kleptomaniac. Cryptographer. Well, easy to mistake them, eh? ;D
Huh. A flashback within a flashback and all of them looking even more early '70's. And this is looking rather like a coerced confession. Although, it also looks a bit like he could be guilty too.

More mirroring of Sam and Gene. "This isn't torture." "This is just deep interrogation." The desparate dad, making up his "confession", trying to get them to save his family. And how cynical am I that I am partially wondering if this is actually true.

Oooh, Annie! Stepping up and speaking up! "Supposing we made mistakes last year. And just supposin' those mistakes are coming back to haunt us." And now it's going all Kurasawa and giving us different viewpoints of the same story. Only is it the same? A deeper state of coma? Oh shit, indeed! What's that gonna be like? Oh, very nice effect!! When Sam touches Annie's face on the television screen and she pauses, like she feels something! Plus, the idea of having him trapped in a room, stuck with only being able to watch them, changing channels and talking to the screen? Great parallel to being stuck in a coma - unconsciously hearing and sensing what's going on but not interacting with it Excellent job Annie! And Chris. And Hunt is so right - what a mess. And, oh. "I just wanted to stop them screaming." Crazy kidnapping dad was right . . . And, in case I haven't mentioned it. Man, I love the music on this show!

Check out the edited out opening here. Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! The little sad animated Sam? "Oh dear. Not very happy. Is it Gene Hunt?" And then the claymation Hunt beating up the guy and they're both waving?! Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! Wonderful opening! I wish they'd shown it. I mean, I know they need to cut time and they figured it wasn't integral to the plot and also probably that it wouldn't have the same meaning to American audiences. But still!
