That damn, pesky Constitution. Someone ought make a law against it. Vlad The Supremes would just find it unconstitutional. They're weird like that. Sheesh! I had no idea that Diana Ross had that much clout. Vlad

My question is this: Is this a prognosticating thread/poll or a voting thread/poll? From the poll question: "...cast your vote for to the next POTUS." From the opening post: "Let's see who would be President if the S'cubies were deciding this contest." I intended the poll to show who the S'cubies would elect president. I think most people took it that way. The discussion following the poll is about whatever they want to discuss that is relevant to the topic, including who they think "might be" elected, even if they are voting for someone else. Of course, voters have a tendency to screw up the most clear and detailed voting instructions. Damned butterfly ballots! Vlad The top says "Who will be the Next US President" and I don't understand : "cast your vote for to the next POTUS" - it has a typo in it, no? Sorry, Vlad, but - did you ever work for the Board of Elections in Florida? Anyhow, I voted on who I thought would be the next President, not whom I would vote for . . . which would depend on who I COULD vote for, and I don't know that yet . . . so - you can remove my vote if it helps keep this from getting screwed up. I doubt very much I will vote for McCain, and don't want to vote on this otherwise.

The top says "Who will be the Next US President" and I don't understand : "cast your vote for to the next POTUS" - it has a typo in it, no? The "for to" was indeed a typo, and it was uncorrectable because it was a Poll question. The original phrasing I had for the poll question was too long and the "to" remained after I edited it for posting. I didn't notice the typo until after people had started voting (or would have made a new poll and deleted this one.) I did think I made it clear that people were voting for their own private choice of president in the language supporting the poll question . Evidently I didn't. Sorry! No, I never worked for the Florida Board of Elections, but, I think given my talent here, I should perhaps submit my resume. ;D May I ask why you would not vote if it's for your own personal choice? The poll is anonymous and non-binding. Also, all the potential candidates are available, at least by the "other" option. As far as removing your vote, I am not actually certain I can. I have never tried to delete a vote before. (Hey, we S'cubies are scrupulous ... of course, perhaps I shouldn't mention that on my Florida Board of Election resume. ) We'll just refer to your McCain vote as the well-hung, dimpled S'cubie Chad. Vlad No biggie about the typo, and no problem about any of this; I was just yanking your chain. Also, I have no worries about anonymity. As to why I wouldn't want to vote . . . it's just . . . I can see that no one else is having trouble with it, so I guess it is just me, but I can't wrap my head around it, or make sense of it - who I vote for depends on who's nominated, and we don't know that yet, so . . . I think that's part of the reason I thought you were asking us who we thought would win, instead of who we would vote for. Because the other makes no sense to me. Like I said, I can see this is my problem, because this kind of thing happens to me all the time, and I recognize it from the big clue that I'm the only one having the problem. But that recognition never makes me better able to wrap my brain around whatever it is no one else is having trouble with. To put it simply, I can't answer the question because I honestly can't process the question through to an answer. It's not that I don't get, at this point, that you're asking: If McCain, Clinton, and Obama were all three on the ballot in Nov, which would you vote for?" I get, now, that you're asking that. But I can't make myself choose one, because . . . I don't know how else to express this, except to say . . . I'm not motivated. That's the closest I can come to explaining.

Ahhhh, so you are the dreaded "Undecided!" No problems. I did, indeed, go check if there was a way to amend the poll and there seems to not be one. I coulda swore that some tech said that there was a way under Proboards 4, but maybe that went the way of the dodo with PB v4.5. Vlad

I feel more like I'm confused about even trying to make this decision. My brain will not go here. I guess I haven't explained it very well, but I can't do any better. No parade-raining or nay-saying going on here . . . I love this thread and efforts like this that get people interacting and talking. I just can't connect on this one, but no problema! I can't believe I'm saying this, but . . . it's not all about me ! (I hope Patti can hear that from heaven. As Tim Gunn would say: "Carry on!"

I'd gladly vote for the right woman. Unfortunately, the Constitution keeps Ms. Thatcher from running. ;-) Or Sophia Loren?

Madeleine Albright. Anne, if we're dreaming anyway Oh, yeah. Well, we can amend the Constitution. For every Arnold, we get a Madeleine.

I just had to come in and break the tie. :-)
Disclaimer: because our foreign policy situation is such an unmitigated disaster, I would change allegiance from Obama to Clinton in a microsecond if she were to somehow wrangle the nomination away (though I think that would be disastrous for the Democratic party in a general election).
If one puts aside their decidedly different personalities and methods, there is little substantive difference between Obama and Clinton's public positions on issues.
Mccain, on the other hand, still refuses to understand just how much the Iraq war has played into Iran's hands. We sent a large group of American soldiers (whom the Iranian leaders hate) into Iraq (whose Sunni majority Iranian leaders ALSO hate) and completely destabilized the region. They couldn't be happier right now...Iran can fund whomever they choose, sit back and watch the show. Apparently John Mccain thinks expanding the conflict is the only way to resolve it. That is an extremely dangerous proposition for all countries in that region. Keep in mind that Russia isn't exactly thrilled with America right now as it is...and Iran would be yet another war right next to their border.
Based on that, if I were a praying man I'd pray Democrats put aside the inevitable hurt feelings over the next few months and do what's best for the country - if not the world - in November.
Ok, I'm spent. :-)
