Jack Reese. Trying to get to Crews thru Ted? Um. That makes me nervous. Don't be mean to Ted!! Um. He stayed overnight at her house? Yeah. "Sometimes I don't feel normal? Is is normal not to feel normal?" ;D And she really don't like him. Interesting how they all have the same stories about Patrick, using the same language. Oh, no - his ex? This isn't going to end well. This has potential disaster written all over it. And then Ted, looking so . . . Can't change the past. And now here's Patrick, being all sort of vaguely threatening and come-on-ish. And here comes the title. All part of his "Patrick is L.A." mystique.

Everyone works for them. Not one of them. "You're the help, just like us." "I'm on here." Heeeeee! The new captain is such a lech. He's just a little to invested in his bike. And also? He doesn't seem to realize what it means, psychologially speaking, that he slides up to the "bitch seat". Hmmmm. Patrick thinks he soooo on top of things. That's gonna make Charlie and Dani work even harder to get him. And also, of course, the whole thing gave him one of his special insights. Yeah, baby!!

Dani trying to be the one who is good with kids, like Charlie. Only she's talking about her dad, which has a different meaning to Charlie . . .
I like how Dani just cuts right to the heart of things. "He's not a monster, he's a punk." Very true! A punk who wanted to die.
Was the psychiatrist supposed to help the others, help them get away from Patrick?
"If we all just do what Patrick tells us to do, it will all be OK." Love the look on Crews' face as he says "It's not OK." It's so very "duh, dude!".
Ooooooh!! He called her dad! Tried to save her and ended up getting her dad killed.
And double ooooooh! Anabel doesn't lie . . . except did she maybe not tell Patrick that she want's to go to Paris to live? Without him? Hmmmmm?

Oh, classic way to get at someone. Take away all his support systems and safe places. Oh, wow! Dead Marty in the back of a cop car. Nice! And Patrick just ends up being rather stupid and naive, once you pull away all his faux cool-guy trappings. Heeeeeee! "This car is just an object. And objects have no meaning." Ri-ight. Oh, snap! Nice way to remind Mr Reese of the other side of not being a cop anymore. While, you know, bugging his car.

"You know what my partner's thinking?" "You know what I'm thinking?" I am suspicious of box boy. I didn't peg him for the killer until they talked about going back to the box store. That actor did a good job of going from all innocent to creepy psychotic. The random drug bust in the middle was kind of amusing. Yeah, I like how it had nothing to do with their case, they just happened upon it. ;D Maybe they have more time on their hands than non-serial killers.

Oh, and I liked how Crews' seemingly insignificant observation that the victims were all about to be happy ended up having concrete significance, as in the connection to the party store. **nods** It's the small patterns and layers that I love in this show.

Oooh, interesting. The steroids aren't being hidden at all. Heh! "Likes heights. Fresh-baked bread. Puppies." ;D And Dani doesn't even notice/pause, she's totally still on track. Nice repetition of "expectation of privacy", constrasting the gang-bangers who aren't going to get it and the rich "patients" who are certain they will get it. (And are probably right.) Heee! It's fun to see him successfully push her buttons ("I'm not uptight" "I didn't say you were uptight, I said kids think you're uptight. Althought kids are notoriously hard to fool.") because he isn't able to do it all that much lately. She's been getting better at being unruffleable arount him. Yeah, that was a very good scene. I so loved that line. ;D

And now the second ep of the second season: Everything . . . All the TimeWow. I don't think I'd have been able to even pretend to be in jail for a short while if I'd been in prison like he had been. Interesting how Dani saw his story to get the kid to talk (that she won't let him drive) as making fun of her. I saw it as lowering his own status, making fun of himself, if you will. By seeming more vulnerable he draws out the person who is also feeling scared and vulnerable. Oh, good call! I kind of saw it the way Dani saw it, but your interpretation makes much more sense, and also makes me love Crews that much more. But, come to think of it, he always seems to be good at putting the victims more at ease, by either making fun of himself or someone else in a "power position."

I never get tired of Crews being a smart alec. ;D I still miss the old boss, but I like the dynamic with the new boss being an outsider and having no part of Crews' framing and so forth. The shrink looks a bit like Maggie Gyllenhaal. Jack is trying to get to Crews through Ted. Hmm. And Crews' ex and Crews together again? Interesting. And hot. I may have rewatched that scene a couple of times. Is she still married? You know, I can't believe the Count of Monte Cristo aspect of this show never occurred to me before. Love the conversation about organic fruit. Hee! He's not a monster, he's a punk. I guess he really is a monster, a la Jekyll and Hyde. Crews gets his car again. Hee. And promptly pulls over by Jack. Interesting. Well, at least Jack won't be poking Ted anymore. And Crews has got a lead!

"Not from birth." (Oh, that cheerful voice not letting anyone under his skin. ) Love how they slip in the cleve throwaway line about giving away the "other" car! And then the air quotes around roommate? The snark and the barely concealed hostility between them? I'm in heaven! This new boss is gonna be just as much fun to watch beging tortured by Crews and Dani as the last one! ;D "You guys don't plant evidence around here?" And then later the gang banger suggests they oughta "plant something". I'm loving the connections here! Planting evidence... interesting in the light of Crews being falsely convicted, methinks.

Do you guys think that, buried underneath all the peaceful calm smiling, Crews has got rage that's going to come out at some point or not? I can't quite decide. Sometimes I think that he shows flashes of anger but he seems genuinely gentle most of the time. And I would think that if he were angry, we would have seen more of it by now, but all that smiling seems to be hiding what he really feels.
What do y'all think?

Yes, I think that's what makes him such an interesting character. He *should* be more bitter and angry than he appears. And then little flashes come out that indicate maybe he his angry and bitter. Sometimes I think he acts chipper just to rub his partner the wrong way. She's the one that seems angry and bitter most of the time. Side tangent: I love Donal Logue and this character he's playing!

I mean, I think he genuinely is trying be calm and gentle and happy, and is much of the time. But I do agree with you that sometimes his smile is hiding or displacing or masking his anger. I think we really saw it boil up and over in the Dig A Hole / Fill it Up eps. In the end, he was able to step back from the edge again, but it's in there.
