Did anybody watch Royal Pain? What did you think?
Also, Pixi, what's your insider's take on the new 20 on SYTYCD?

Annoyed by how slow he was to pick up on the idea that he'd found a job with people (regardless of how rich, annoying and/or stupid) who want him.

Just to (potentially) add to the disgust for the Salt Stealer (tm): When he and his friends were looking for movies to watch, I offered some from my (limited) Region 2 collection. While one of this friends immediately latched on to Serenity as a great choice, Salt Stealer's response was: "Looks stupid." I didn't respond with: "You're stupid." I think I've grown. ETA: But, bonus! I forgot until yesterday that he's moving out at the end of July to start a PhD far far away. Which means I'll have a whole Salt Stealer-free last month in this house! Squee!

Did anybody watch Royal Pain? What did you think? Also, Pixi, what's your insider's take on the new 20 on SYTYCD? Overall -- I liked it. In fact, a lot more than many premiere episodes. There were certainly some annoying bits so time will tell whether those win out but for a first episode it actually kept my interest a lot more than many (most?) shows. I think the lead is a good actor. The writing ebbed and flowed as to believability but at least was fairly intelligent. The younger brother is a bit annoying. The 2 brunettes [the patient he saved and the do-gooder doctor] are a bit bland and I sometimes wasn't sure which was which but hopefully they will flesh out. I liked the P.A. girl -- clearly she's been set up to have more backstory. Casting was very interesting (except for the bland brunette) --- the kid with hemophilia was different -- but in an interesting way. Christine Ebersole (was that who that was?) was (as always) a hoot. The extras at the party looked like they came from an Anorexics of America convention -- which is likely fairly accurate. I suspect that down the line we may have stories of the rich balanced some with stories of the poor and the struggle to make the horrid hospital into something better. [Don Quixote and/or Robin Hood overtones?] I see lots of potential. I wasn't bored. A bit of "suspension of disbelief" which they totally acknowledged with the "MacGyver" remark. But the #1 reason I'll watch again? Totally, absolutely LOVED the scenery. Couldn't get enough of the shots of the mansions, grounds, views, architecture, interior decorating, exterior landscaping, beach and ocean shots. Yowza! Oh, also, I didn't feel like the storytellers were forcing too much on us too fast. The characters have been introduced and dumped in our laps but I feel like there is probably a whole lot more to learn about all of them. I've quit deciding yay or nay based on anything less than half a season (which nowadays I guess is a "full" season -- 13 eps?). But I'll definitely been tuning in regularly until/unless it gives me a reason not too, or I get bored----which is a key indicator.

Did anybody watch Royal Pain? What did you think? Also, Pixi, what's your insider's take on the new 20 on SYTYCD? I DVRed it and will watch it tonight. I'm just now posting my top 20 thoughts on LJ. I'll copy and paste and bring them over when I'm done Diane. Okay - here are my thoughts - kind of long so I'll put them under a cut not to annoy the non-watchers: Okay so Mia and her little bitchfreak over Brandon? So scripted. So scripted. Mia had Brandon in a workshop this summer which a couple of people from our studio went to and loved him there. That little hissy fit was pure television drama. Trust me.
Alex Wong is a principal soloist at the Miami City Ballet - one of the most prestigious ballet companies in the country. And he wants to be on a reality show? Seriously, there's something a little messed up here. I loved his technique which was superb. But he has already climbed the ladder to success in the dance world. Maybe he now wants fame. Who knows?
But who cares? Evan! We have Evan. Now please give him a good partner. And I think Ryan will either be doing choreography for the show before you know it or competing in the fall. Nigel is no idiot.
So working my way down:
1. Evan!!!!!! Love him. Love his style and just love him. 2. Pono - I finally saw him and I really liked his personality. Still haven't seen him dance but looking forward to it. 3. Brandon - well, we'll see. He obviously has technique but I kind of liked the other guy who is similar to him more. 4. Phillip - I hate his style. Popping bores me but I'm guessing he'll be around for awhile. He does seem like a nice guy so I'll give him that. It's just . . . . . . . 5. Kayla R. - Loved her audition dance. I've always liked Blackbird and I just enjoyed her style. She is Nigel's drool type so I'm preparing myself to hear lots of pervy thoughts. 6. Janette- I don't know. Maybe. Her personality is a little grating but I do like ballroom dancers so we'll see. 7. Caitlin - She's got a gorgeous dancer body and I liked most of what I saw. She did kind of fall apart during the auditions a little and Mia seems to have her hook into her but I loved her turns and lines. She seems tall though so I'm wondering if she is going to be stuck with no-talent Tony. 8. Maksim - the traditional Russian ballroom dancer - a slot that has had Artem, Dimity, Pasha - very hot guys who smoked the floor. Maksim doesn't really impress me lookswise but maybe he'll turn it up on the dance floor. My jury is still out on him. 9. Asuka - love her dancing. She's giving off a slightly bitchy vibe but that could all be the stress of auditioning. Right now I like her more than Janette. 10. Tony- he seems like a nice guy and I have a feeling he's going to fill the Neil tweener slot but geesh. He can't dance and I hate watching the "journey" stories. He reminds me of Ivan and I did end up kind of loving Ivan. So we'll see.
People they didn't let us see much of so they're either the stealth winners (Sabra) or cannon fodder (poor Marquis - sniff):
11. Jason - from what little we've seen, he has lovely technique. I'm looking forward to seeing more. 12. Randi- meh. Miss Unitard. Meh. (cannon fodder ala Raven) 13. Paris - no clue. (cannon fodder ala Susie) 14. Jonathan - who? Seriously who? I don't even know his style. 15. Vitolio - I loved him. Seriously. Loved him. Can't really judge his style yet since we saw so little but right now he's my pick over Brandon. 16. Karla - supposedly has been on Broadway which means I would probably like her if I had a clue who she was. 17. Jeanine - she's from Florida, a studio we know so my whole studio is buzzing over her. I know nothing about her but she is pretty. Very pretty. 18. Melissa - the naughty ballerina. Okay then. I loved Allie - the ballerina in SYTYCD Canada and Talia - the winner and ballerina from SYTYCD Australia so if she is anything remotely like them, I will like her. But she's so far under the radar right now that who knows if she'll get very far. 19. Ashley - she tried out 4 times? 4 freaking times? Wow. But cannon fodder. 20. Ade - who? Seriously - who?
At the end of the day it's going to come down to partners and choreographers. Whoever gets a lameass hiphop the first round is probably doomed. Whoever gets Mia will probably soar. I'm going to go into this loving Evan and keeping an open mind for everyone else to impress

From Leverage guru John Rogers: "BURN NOTICE has zen structural elegance. Michael tells you what he's going to do. It promises to be interesting. They do it, and it is." Sums it up pretty well, I'd say.

Loved Burn Notice. Love the dynamics, the whole back to basics nature of the premier. I just love Michael, Sam and Fi. Such a great team.
