Q1: What shows will you be watching this fall? What new shows are you going to try out? Which ones excite or tempt you? What returning shows are you looking forward to? Q2: Should I start a separate thread on the ILTV section to hold and preserve this discussion? Or maybe just put it in the thread that is stickied at the top re TV bulletins, etc? "What I Am Watching: Fall, 2009" Q1: Fringe, Chuck, House, maybe Lost, although I'm not sure about that. I regret to inform you that The Husband is counting the days until American Idol. We're currently watching Leverage and Warehouse 13. I got hooked on Primeval over the summer, so when/if it comes back, I'll probably pick that up again. I haven't seen anything in the new shows that looks worth the effort - there are actors I like in shows that don't interest me, like, for example, Paul Gross in Witches of Eastwick. What to do, what to do? By the way, has anyone watched Being Human on BBCAmerica? I have the first two recorded, but I'm still trying to decide if it's worth making time to watch them.
Q2: I wouldn't bother, the discussions on TV end up here anyway. My friend thinks the vampire in Being Human is H.O.T. - if that is of any help. Dollhouse and V, Mad Men, Lost, Supernatural, Medium, Heroes..Chuck..BBT..2 1/2 Men (Charlie grows up - finally - I hope!!!) ..Gossip Girl...I am sure there is more I'll want to watch. My weekend was fun. And exhausting. Riverfest was this weekend, and I picked up a nice pile of books at the Art League Book Sale. We went down Friday night and partied at the beer tents to 2 live local Chicago bands. Got home way too late and then headed to the suburbs for Nick's golf tournament. He took 2nd place in gross score (out of 40 guys). Not bad for a newbie. While he played on Sunday, I drove into Chicago to pick up his daughter at Union Station. Cool old building. I borrowed my friend's Garmin. What a great little tool! We walked to the river and ended up at Barnes and Nobel for lunch and browsed the books for an hour. Got back to the golf course in plenty of time to watch Nick at the 18th tee. Drove back home to Ottawa, unpacked and crashed to True Blood.

Good morning, S'cubes. Am still working on making my way back into the world, including my S'cubie connection. Will try to post a bit here and there in the next few weeks, and keep chugging toward establishing a new normal. Hugs to all.

Well, in total honesty, Carolyn called and I missed some stuff so maybe you can tell me: 1. What did blond lady hand to Vicki (from the Vampire show) which she then put in her locker? Were there repercussions? 2. What was the reason for taking the 2 men off of the flight and replacing them? (Both fake and real reasons.) 3. So blond lady is pregnant (is she hearing babies because she aborted or because she didn't --- surely medical would have caught it if she didn't). Is abortion illegal in 2052? And if she is pregnant does unknown alien controller want the baby? 4. Lead guy honestly thought he'd had a vasectomy but it has self-repaired? Okay, "real" science issues I had: 1. Definitely the reeling in -- wouldn't they have had a power winch that could do that---would have saved a lot of time if they could have just pushed a button and not had to suit him up. Although your point about simply starting the process and allowing inertia to finish was good. Can spit really fix a leak? 2. I had a problem with the "oh we have to substitute 2 guys and Indian guy has 8 hours of air but it will take youi 6 hours to get there, so obviously they just jumped into their little space capsule and blasted off in a time period of 2 hours and drove it right up into Indian guy's face? Really? ==== Also, looks like they are attempting to set up some kind of "hard questions" sub-theme about killing embryos. It feels a bit like a LOST or Fringe or Alias wannabe but with less deft writing so we have to be smacked in the face with a whole bunch of mystery right up front. Of course, much of that is due to the sad state of TV where nothing is ever given any TIME to develop characters and plot. It wasn't horrid, better than some stuff, pretty decent cast, somewhat interesting plotlines depending on where it leads. Oh, and, do we really need naked blond lady and naked sex in front of cameras. Plotty Stuff 1. I have no idea what it was she handed her. I saw that scene, but I didn't quite understand. Those bar-flashbacks when the Harris (blondie) character was pregnant were about five years back. 2. The medical monitors noted heart murmurs of the exact same type and nature in both Ajay (indian guy) and other pilot. Since this is near as dammit impossible, the ground control guys think that the whosiwhatsis/Alien/Beta/Plot Rutabega which is somehow powerful enough to do this doesn't want them, and wanted Shaw (black guy) and Donner on the flight instead. 3. She was pregnant in the flashbacks, near as I can figure. Abortion appears to be illegal in that year, from the conversation she and her gf have in the bar, relating to possible future reversals of the law, when gf directs her to a sympathetic doctor. Alien/Beta/Plot Rutabega seems to be frelling with her head. 4. He (Donner) seemed to think he was shooting blanks. I think he had one, it just fixed itself. Skience/tech stuff. 1. They'd just tethered her to a wall padeye as a precaution: there didn't appear to be a winch in there anywheres. I'd have used a shorter tether, but maybe that one was for people scrambling all over the ship, and was all they had available, for plot purposes. 2. Their launch was calculated to set up pretty much a half hour or hour after Ajay decided to go and become a hood ornament. Ground Control guy Donnor decked was already in the process of herding them to the ship. So it seemed perfectly reasonable to me that they'd get to the ship there in the eight hour window in which Ajay's suit was still functioning. Rather than docking, they drove past the docking port to the fore end of the ship, where he was hanging out. I saw no inconsistency in any of that: what bugged me was the idea that they had to leave for Venus RIGHT THAT MINUTE as planned. The launch moment may have been the optimal, but they had a few day's grace either side of it, where a launch is nearly as low in fuel costs. I'm not in love with it, and doubt that I will be, but I'm all for more nekkid Laura Harris on teevee. Nekkid anybody else? eh. I'll take what they give me. I AM drooling a little bit at the pretty technoporn, with the suits and the ship.

Oh, yes, I'll be watching Dollhouse too. Forgot that one. Oh, I just assume that Dollhouse went without saying. And I was mostly interested in whether anybody had seen anything worthwhile among the crop of new shows. I think Karen mentioned "V" but that's midseason. Slim pickings, people, mighty slim pickings. Whoever said they were waiting to hear from Salon and Bianculli needs to come back and report once you hear what they say. (Was that Rachael?)

Thank you! He was enjoying it all. Sue! You have corrupted the RSG! Look at that refridgerator!A-MEN! I knew I wasn't nuts. I mean, why would the abridged version be "fridge" in the first place if it was always spelled "frige?" I'd thought that it was an abreviation of the Frigidaire (sp) name brand. Which makes no sense, as it would be an abreviation and inversion of such.. Of course, someone may have just stuck that "d" in the abreviation of "refrigerator" to keep it from looking like, well, frigging, and that d hardens the g up nicely.
