Rachael just called me from the hospital: everybody is doing great! Emily was a skosh under 7lbs and 21" long. She's got a great set of lungs, as evidenced by her loud protests while her dad changed her diaper. Dave gets to live after all: his cell phone was dead. Rachael meant to call me yesterday but her mom was there all day and she didn't get the chance. Anyway, Rachael is going home in a few hours and will post pictures for us. YAAY!!! to Emily! Hooooo-RAH!!!! Dave still needs a good smack for letting his cell go dead . . . but I guess he can be forgiven. In his defense (but exactly how, I don't know), he put it through the washer/dryer, and so now it only holds charge for about a day. And he didn't remember his charger. He DID remember to text Shan when we actually got admitted to the hospital, though.

<regretfully snipping best pics ever on S'cubie board> OMG! You have brought tears to my eyes. What beautiful pictures, what a beautiful baby. Love the hair on that kid. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous, and perfect. Congrats to mom and dad, who are plenty pretty also.

Ah, I needed the pretty baby pictures. Last night, I drove about 3 hrs to western Ohio, where my MIL lives. This morning, I picked her up early, to drive her about 7 hrs, into Pennsylvania, where her sister lives, so she could go to her BILs funeral. Then, since her son is picking her up on Thurs, I started the approx 5 hr drive home . . . only to get to feeling too sick to continue part way into Ohio - so I am now checked into a motel in Newcomerstown, OH - with a drippy nose and a mildly sore throat and a headache. I am just praying that I feel better, not worse, in morning. It seems like a nice enough little town, but it's in the middle of nowhere, so I do not want to be stuck here:

Grumph. The City of Brea has spoken, and it is Not Good. We got a postcard stating that "signs have been posted at the entrance to each neighborhood" mandating no parking between 8AM and 2PM on street-sweeping day. Failure punishable by ticketing. "Entrance"? Wait, what "entrance"? Which "entrance"? This is not a gated community, those are all down in Fullerton by the golf courses. So I called the number on the postcard. She couldn't tell me where our neighborhood's "entrance" was, but she did tell me that our day is Tuesday. So now in addition to everything else, I have to rush out on Tuesday mornings after Paul leaves for work, move my car onto the driveway, then rush back out as soon as the street sweeper's been and park it in front of the house before the neighbors two doors down and their bevy of "overnight for several days" friends park there along with the rest of the block. These, by the way, are the neighbors with no driveway and two residences on the lot. They seem to have a lot of cars, all parked in front of the rest of our homes. The lady from maintenance said that this was necessary because "people have been complaining that the streets weren't clean". I told her that I didn't care if the bit under my car was dirty, and I was perfectly capable of moving my car and sweeping under it myself. I suspect it's really a new revenue stream. I also suspect that the people who have been complaining will be the first to bitch and moan when they get ticketed... I'm off to add another item to my Yahoo Calendar of things to do on Tuesdays.

I suspect I went an entirely different place than the author intended when I read this: Susan Cocking's never-ending permit quest continues with a trip to Biscayne Bay, where from all the evidence it can be assumed that she did finally get a permit to eat her fly. She just didn't come tight.**snicker** I know what I'm thinking.

Rachael, those were terrible photos. I think you need to post a bunch more to make it up to us.

She just didn't come tight.Well, I can't figure out what the author intended to say. To translate: Permit is a type of fish, which Susan went to try and catch in Biscayne Bay. She had a permit take the fly she was fishing with into its mouth, but the hook didn't catch its jaw before it spit the fly out--if the fish had been hooked, the line would have gone taut when the fish took off; because it remained slack, she knew she'd missed.
