"Just glad it's not me." Hmmmmm. Why does that make me think that Hurley might end up being substituted as the One. "How long am I gonna have to do this job?" A loooooooooog time, dude. A long time. So, this all explains why we needed the last ep, yes? "I think it's time to leave. Are you ready to get out of here?" Oh, they're ready! Desmond gets them free, they gotta promise to do what he says. Ana Lucia!!! Everybody's coming back for the end! Heeee! And Hurley recognizes Ana L. Going to a concert - everybody pay attention to Desmond! Desmond is the fail-safe, last resort if everyone is dead. And FLocke thinks he can destroy the island. Well, that's a fine howdy do! I really think there's a strong possibility that Hurley will end up with the job. Can't you just see him annoying the Man in Black for the next thousand years or whatever? But I also have a bad feeling that Jack will die first.
Great to see Ana-Lucia again! Now where's Walt - maybe he'll turn up at the concert?

It's interesting how everyone wants Hurley for the job, when he clearly doesn't want it. After all, he didn't share Jack's desire to remain on the island.
I was slightly disappointed with this episode. It left me feeling hollow. I didn't care how Michelle Rodriguez was utilized. Jacob's explanation of why they were on the island seemed vague. I understand that he wants them to choose to stay on the island . . . but I didn't care for it. I especially didn't care for his explanation on why Kate's name was crossed off. It seemed as if Cuse and Lindehof were advocating child snatching. I didn't care for how Jack allowed Sawyer to avoid any feelings of guilt for his screw up in "The Candidate". Charles Widmore's death made his presence on the show seemed useless.
I don't know. I feel as if I had been screwed. No wonder I still continue to view shows like "BABYLON 5" "MAD MEN", and "BUFFY" as superior to "LOST". I have found more enjoyment in new shows like "FLASHFORWARD" and "V" than I have in "LOST". And this is supposed to be the best show of the past decade? I don't think so.

I need to rewatch. It was late when I finally got to tune in. The whole - 'drink from this cup' and 'protecting the light' gave the ep a very spiritual flavor. All the bloodshed gave it a very human flavor. Did Richard die? I didn't think he could. Did Sawyer and company get Desmond out of the well? I missed that, but they were heading that way last episode. How funny was Benry's "He's in my closet."?? I'm as Lost as ever, but like the Bible, the disjointed stories all add up to lessons in human life/morality. And the big question - What did they die for? Well - can we really expect the writers to come up with the answer to that one? I mean - the answers are different for everyone. Maybe a better question would be - What did they live for? Jack wants a purpose in life - always has. Being a doctor is one of the most noble purposes one could have - but in the end, you might still ask yourself - Why did I struggle for so long to educate myself so that I could save people? Are people really worthy of my sacrifice? What makes a man desire a noble purpose in life and what makes a man only want to be in it for his own selfish pleasures? Lost tried to explore what drives a man/woman to sacrifice for another or kill another. I don't think we are going to get an explanation for the island other than that. As far as Jacob and the Smoke Monster goes - they are just the tools used to tell the story. What do you want them to be? Aliens with a light energy source that is keeping the humans alive? An ancient race protecting the source of life? Master Puppets playing with the humans for the enjoyment of some super beings - like a play on a stage? Well, that's been done. I hope we get an answer that explains that. Like an old Twilight Episode. A surprising twist would be cool. Like the "To Serve Man" ep. Now back in the day, that was awesome.

And this is supposed to be the best show of the past decade? I don't think so. I think Buffy was better, in its entirety, than Lost. I view Lost as a flawed masterpiece; there's so much great stuff in it that I can forgive a lot of sloppy storytelling. But I wouldn't call it perfect. Babylon 5 was between Lost and Buffy in its cohesion; in my opinion; because I have trouble believing the way the Shadows were ultimately destroyed/driven off...
What I especially didn't care for is my recent feeling that suddenly the writers were rushing around frantically, hurrying to wrap things up. Suddenly Richard's smashed practically off-camera. Suddenly Widmore reveals that Jacob sent him (huh?) and then poof! he's dead. Not to mention the deaths of the Kwons last week; which was poignant but, to me, pointless. Why were they killed off? Just so there would be shock value and facilitate there being only two or three Losties left in the finale?
But do I enjoy the idea of two semi-immortal beings playing chess or Senet with both each other and, metaphorically, living people and mysterious forces? Heck, yes!
And I hope that Ben turns on Smokey in the finale.

Ah, these two are cute together.
Claire joins the happy family. Aww...
Oceanic Airlines. They've located Christian's coffin. Ah, Desmond. You sly devil.

Part I
Debris from the sub washing up on shore. The life jacket.
You know, I know people keep thinking that the Triangle of Doom is still in play, and are upset about Sawyer not being true to Juliet's memory and so forth, but I'm not getting vibes from Sawyer, Kate, and or Jack in this season. It mostly just seems like they've reached a moment of real friendship after having been through so much. And that they're all really tired and worried about more important things than who is going to be with who.
And they're off to see the Wizard! find Desmond!
Back in LA.
Locke back at school.
Desmond about to try for a second round. Interrupted by Ben.
Beating up Ben makes him flash.
Back on the island.
Ah, getting back to Richard, Ben, and Miles. Yay! And, wow, are they behind the times.
Yeah, well, I lived in these houses 30 years before you did (well, not really), otherwise known as last week (ha!) and I have no idea where they are.
Ben's magic stash of C4. The magic room behind the bookcase. Yeah, I'm thinking that it's not exactly C4 that Ben is after.
Miles makes contact with Alex Richard buried her. Aww...
It's where I was told that I could summon the [Smoke] Monster. That's before I realized that it was summoning me. (So who told him that?)
Zoe! And Widmore!!! OMGTHISISGOINGTOBEGOOD!!!!!

Part II
Widmore vs. Ben.
Hmm...Widmore and Zoe came over on the outrigger. So they were the ones shooting at the Losties?
Widmore rigged the plane from the off.
Widmore says that Jacob invited him back to the island. Ben says that Widmore's never seen Jacob. Widmore claims that he has.
I'm starting to think that this "banishment" from the island is not a hard and fast rule.
What is Widmore's purpose?
NotLocke approaches. In the other outrigger.
Back in LA.
Ben in the nurses office. Is this the nurse that Principal was having an affair with?
Ben looking like his more familiar self. Mr. Dr. Linus.
Seeing his reflection in the mirror. He's probably thinking the same thing.
Ben and Locke.
Desmond was trying to get Locke to let go. Interesting...Is Locke the only one who can break the spell?
Desmond at LAPD. Going to see Sawyer and Miles.
Miles also going to the concert. So that's where the finale's going to happen.
Washington Tuston High School.
Desmond turns himself in. To talk to Kate as well?
Oh, right Kate and Sayid.
Back on the island.
Jack and Sawyer. What happened to Hurley and Kate?
I love this reconciliation between these two.
Ah, there's Kate and Hurley, just a few paces behind.
Hurley sees YoungJacob. He wants his ashes. (I want my two dollars!)
Now Adult Jacob. Burning his ashes. To release his spirit. Same rules as Supernatural. Would that strategy work on all the ghosts then? And if they burned the bodies in the Rape Caves would that make a difference?
We're very close to the end, Hugo. No, shit!

Part III
NotLocke Approaches.
Ben wants to face NotLocke.
Miles runs.
Widmore and Zoe hide.
Care to join me outside while I face the inevitable? (Hee!)
Richard thinks that he can persuade NotLocke. Wow, really? I didn't think he was that lacking in perspective. I guess all his seeming wisdom came from being Jacob's go between.
The Smoke Monster attacks. Yep, good-bye Richard. You sure were pretty.
Hmm. The Smoke Monster leaves Ben alone though.
Ben and NotLocke.
This scene and the one in the nurse's office are going to coincide, right?
NotLocke tempts Ben one last time.
Ben seems to betray, but I don't think that he actually is this time.
Back in LA.
Oh, nurse's office scene is over.
Alex and Ben.
I found myself confronting some one who had a bit of a temper.
Who would want to hurt you? You're like the nicest guy ever. (Hee! Meta-humor. I love it.)
Rousseau!!!
Ben invited over for dinner.
We insist. Even if we have to kidnap you. (Oh, if you only knew...)
Father died when Alex was 2. Reason why Alex is so attached to Ben. The closest thing to a father she's ever had.
Ben moved to tears.
Back on the island.
You don't want to see this. I want to see this. (Yep, Ben's planning a double cross.)
Whoa. Wasn't expecting Zoe to kick it like that.
You told her not to talk to me. That made her pointless. (Yikes!)
NotLocke plans to kill Penny once he leaves the island. Just like Ben wanted to do. Hmm...Why is Penny so important?
NotLocke won't kill Penny if Widmore tells him what he wants to know. Really? Why?
NotLocke wants to know why Widmore came back. He came back to bring back Desmond, as a measure of last resort.
Whoa. Ben kills Widmore. That was rather anti-climactic.
He doesn't get to save his daughter. (Revenge is a dish best served cold, huh? Also...I thought that Ben couldn't kill Widmore. Are The Rules just a total sham then?)
What did Widmore tell NotLocke?
Hurley, Sawyer, Jack, and Kate. Convo with Jacob.
They can all see him know, too.
Kate asks Very Important Questions. Jacob promises to tell all. But will he really?

Part IV
Back in LA.
Jack in his office. Locke visits him.
Picture of the Shepherd men last Thanksgiving. Does this mean something?
Locke thinks there are Too Many Coincidences.
Ah, Jack also told NotLocke to "let go." Interesting.
Maybe this is happening for a reason. Maybe you're supposed to fix me.
Maybe you're mistaking coincidence for fate. (Hahaha!! I love it!!!!!!!)
I think I'm ready to get out of this chair.
Back on the island.
Jacob convo, already in progress.
Kate: why bring the Losties to the island? Brought the Losties here because he made a mistake, creating the Smoke Monster. Ever since then the Smoke Monster's been trying to kill him. He finally figured out how, and now some one needs to replace Jacob.
Sawyer: why use the Losties as pawns this little game?
Sawyer has the gall to argue that he living a happy life pre-plane crash.
I didn't pluck any of you out of a happy existence. You were all flawed. (Isn't everybody?)
Jacob chose them because they were all alone, like him. Looking for something that couldn't be found in the outside world. They needed the island as much as the island needed them. (So, in a sense, it makes sense that those who found a happy resolution died almost immediately)
Kate's name got crossed off the list because she became a mother.
It's just a line of chalk on a wall in a cave. Yeah, see? All this talk of Rules and Lists makes it seem more hard and fast than it actually is.
And hey, where is Claire?
The Job. Protect the golden cave. So the light didn't go out then?
Protect the Golden Cave from the Smoke Monster. But, but the Golden Cave *created* the Smoke Monster!! My head hurts.
Protect the Golden Cave by killing the Smoke Monster. Hmm, I'm thinking that the solution is actually to show the monster love and compassion and forgiveness or some such thing. Would be more appropriate.
Jacob wants them to have A Choice. The one thing he never had. And now I'm thinking of Interview With The Vampire, where a choice really isn't a choice.
Jack volunteers. As we knew he would.

Coda Sawyer, Kate, Hurley. And I thought he had a god complex before. (Ha!!!) Hurley is glad it's not him. The bamboo forest Jack landed in in the Pilot. Is right next to the Golden Cave. More magical island geography. So I guess it's more the ritual that matters than what's in the cup. Jack is to do the job as long as he can. Now he's like Jacob. Mazel Tov!!! Back in LA. The prisoners get shipped to County. Kate is still trying to needle Sawyer. The prisoner transport is going to pass by The Concert, right? Driver already knows when to stop. Who is the driver? Desmond has A Plan. Ah, Ana Lucia!!!!! By The Docks. Ah, Hurley with the getaway car. 125k Ana Lucia's "not ready yet." Desmond and Kate are going to The Concert. Back on the Island. NotLocke and Ben. Esau likes to take human form because it reminds him that he was once human. Ah they're at The Well. And Desmond is gone! But NotLocke was expecting that. I would really like to see NotLocke and Desmond in a battle of wits. To the death!!! No, to the pain!!! I don't believe I'm familiar with that phrase. Ah, sometimes I crack myself up. Desmond is a failsafe. One final way to stop NotLocke. But NotLocke is going to use Desmond to Destroy the island. dun Dun DUN!!!!

Eye shot. More cuts that Jack didn't give to himself but doesn't seem that concerned about. Claire living with them!!!! Too bad they're siblings. They found Daddy sheppard? No, apparently, it's Desmond. Sideways... Sewing up Kate. "Locke did this to him. We have to kill him, Jack" So if there's always got to be a "jacob" does that mean that there has to be his opposite number? Who will wind up with THAT enviable job? Wow, really?
