Remember when I mentioned I'd been short-listed for a job? Well, I wasn't short-short-listed. Just heard today. Pfui. Great part opener, which shows just how wrong they were. Julia, only about 13.6% sarcasm, which is as low as my thinking process can get.

I have to say that the emergency medicine rotation really wreaks havoc on your sleep cycles. And making travel plans for interviews is going to drive me crazy. So far I'm going to Pocatello ID, Billings MT, and Rapid City SD in December. (Also one in Fort Collins CO, date TBD, but that's close, so I'm not concerned.) Fly or drive? Fly or drive? That is the question. I always prefer driving, but it's risky in the event of bad weather. Of course, flights get delayed and canceled all the time. And I'll have to fly out of Denver, so that makes things more complicated.

Sorry to hear that, Erin. Thanks for letting us know. Doing OK? Now that the S'cubies don't have to be directing so many vibes toward the presidential election, we can redirect more toward your job hunt! And I'm vibin' away. Yeah, I'm OK. Kind of bummed, but I'll survive. I've got a bunch more applications out there...and there are two I really really would love: the Paris one I mentioned in the last part, and a certain university with a leprechaun mascot. You know, if you want to narrow down the vibes... Oooooooooh, Paris! Go, Paris, choose Paris! Or maybe monkeys in Paris ... Seriously. Bummer about the gig, but I have every expectation that it only means a better one will eventually be yours!

So I took the girls to the polls with me yesterday afternoon. When we drove up toward the polling place, I pointed out the directional signs and the flags, and also how the political signs had to be a certain distance away. Once we got in, they watched the poll worker check my name and signature and such, and then they listened to her give me my voting instructions. I asked if the girls could watch me vote, and she said yes. So they went into the little kiosk with me, and watched me fill in the ovals with black ink. We use paper ballots that you fill out, then feed into the scanning machine. They asked questions and were surprised by how many names were listed for president, and by the fact that you could write in a name. They also saw that there were several people running unopposed. In the back were the Issues, and one was a school tax levy, which interested them. They asked some questions on the ride home, and even the elder one, who had expressed disdain, started to sound like she just MIGHT be interested in voting when she got old enough. So no matter what happens with these two in the long run, I'll know that I've given them exposure to things they'd otherwise know little to nothing about. What a great thing to do with them! Brava!

Graffiti inspired outfit - how very fun!
Some of these are turning out very cool and some .... well. I mean, Kayne - dude! Mermaid mania!

Runway! Andre - Interesting, if rather flawed. I like where this could have gone, but am not on board with sloppy execution. Uli - Colors and pattern are good (although more tie-dyed looking rather than giving you the idea of graffiti art), but the shoulders are a wing bridge too far for me. I agree with her that it (by this I mean everything about the dress except the shoulders) does not stand out enough. Kayne - Oh. Well, yes it is totally a pagent-style mermaid dress. And all the patterns? Look rather tacky. Laura - Similarly to Uli, I like the colors and pattern and that it give more of a tie-dyed vibe than graffiti. But I like the muted-ness of this better than Uli's. Dress shape is rather ordinary and, yes, Laura, it is too short. Also? The fit is rather bunchy in some spots. And I am not a fan of the fringy back. Comes off kinda gimmicky. Anthony Ryan - I like this. He is right that the print reads as graffiti, and graphic. And yet he's also some some interesting subtle stuff with the cut/shape/piecing together of it to add to the angular vibe and movement. A simple dress in many ways, but with points of interest. Casanova - I like the stenciled building and other shapes, and the soft diffused look. The casual shape and flow is very pretty, and it has nice touches. Not a spectacular dress, but pretty. Emilio - I actually really like this jacket. The drip effect is very cool and works with the hot color palette. I am debating whether or not it would have been better to go with red for the entire under-dress (like the bodice), though, rather than yellow. Suede - Oh dear, no. No. Muddy looking unflattering skirt and lumpy bodice with flimsy dots all over it? No! Althea - She had an interesting idea that did not go far enough. The shaping of the print against the black is cool, although kinda "last season", and the print it pretty, but is a bit too leopard-print-esque. Ivy - I see where she was going with the wording in the print, but am not sold on the execution. Seems rather forced/obvious. Jacket is an interesting shape, but she's doing the short skirt with longer sheer overlay thing that (while I know it may be rather "on trend"), I just don't like. Joshua - Hmmm. Too much going on with this one. I actually like many of the elements here, there's just too many thrown onto one outfit. Posting before I listen to the judges!

We got hung up in raffic on the way home from WV. Not normally a problem, but there was some kind of horrific looking accident backing us up. Will really try to make it next week!!

I'm really liking these judges tonight. Very thoughtful critique! So, winner and loser is ... Emilio wins! Cool! I would have been happy with either him or Anthony Ryan. And Suede is out. Well, I truly hated that outfit, so I am fine with this too.

#whineon# The grand total for yesterday's rainstorm: .1" That's one tenth of an inch. I don't think that even qualifies as a drop in the bucket. The abrupt shift in the weather has given me a delightful sinus headache and the sniffles. The Elder Daughter and I walked up to the shopping center and entertained ourselves at Cost Plus and the market. I've been sorting things in the little wee studio again, because I am unable to start doing anything remotely creative, and in that I include mending and sewing on buttons. Also it's laundry day. I'm going to reorganize the stuff on top of the kitchen cart. Perhaps after lunch I'll take a nap. Bored now. #whineoff#

We have a new dresser. The Bobman has needed more storage space. Sadly, the place where I bought my furniture is out of business (which is okay because my bedroom set was a mistake anyway) so we picked up a 4 drawer from Ikea.
Putting that thing together was unbelievably painful. Floorsitting is now something I USED to do.
You know you're old when foreplay consists of putting liniment on each other. Just sayin'.
