So, just wondering, did any of you watch Broadchurch (starring David Tennant) when it was on BBC America? Because they are remaking it for the States (renamed Gracepoint). Now, I'm not a fan of remakes, but David Tennant stars in both, so... Watched it. Jim thought it was great. I thought that there was a clear and specific pattern of: "here are the suspects, each week will pick one to be the red herring and the last one without a chair we look at (whether there has been any real "evidence" or not) will be IT! But, yeah, entertaining because of DT. HOWEVER, it is my understanding that the "remake" is pretty much a word for word for word re-shoot with an American accent, although I also read rumors that the ending is changed. (and how, pray tell, can you essentially copy nearly all of the plot/dialogue but change it up so someone else is guilty. Well, maybe not so hard, given my review above as to how the murderer was found selected by the "last standing" criteria. If they are really just copying it straight I guess the only explanation is that there are folks who don't get cable (or BBC) and so didn't have a chance to see it the first time round. I would not consider it a "remake", I'd consider it a rerun.

Not a fan usually. But I have to admit that some of the changes have been good. I've been doing a lot of sewing since I retired. Now I've discovered that I really like making Victorian underpinnings. I'm making a bustle right now. Several people have exhibited an interest in them. I need to make myself a new corset and one more petticoat (because I want to try an experiment making a double). I also want to try my hand at a few outer garments. Maybe next year I might do something like opening an Etsy shop. Comicpalooza is coming up and Bob and I have been invited to go to San Antonio to do some photoshoots as the Queen and Mr Brown. Those are really good changes. Woot!, as the kids say. I am vicariously happy for you and Bob, and I hope there will be photos. Where are you getting your creative energy, and can I have some, please? I've decided to try to finish the one project that needs the sewing machine, so I can clear all that up as soon as possible - altering a tiered costume peasant skirt so it'll fit over my horrible fat tum again. I took the top tier off, and I'm going to replace it with one that's big enough to go round more comfortably. The peasant blouse will cover the worst of it anyway. If I can get it all done by next week, I'll be able to concentrate on the online class that starts Tuesday - it's just little embellished felt hearts, but I'm looking forward to something silly and fun for a change. Group post because will be busy very soon. Anne: I'm sorry, but creative energy isn't available to be packaged and shipped. I went from last summer until just a few weeks ago completely energy-drained. Then both my sewing machines broke. Then I was intimidated by the replacement. I'm not sure what reignited it, but I'm parceling out my energy very carefully setting realistic goals and refusing to worry if I don't meet them. How's your class? Can you post photos? I've been in a Victorian undies frenzy and now sport two pair of cominations (made out of two corset covers and two pair of drawers); two chemises and two petticoats. Still coming: a couple of cage crinolines, a newly designed corset and a new Renaissance costume becaue all of my old ones desperately need retiring. I love the baby bluebird photo. As for the Mom issues, it is not your fault she is old and no longer able to care for herself. Other than moving in with her and caring for her night and day (that was sure make ME cry) I can see no way she would be able to stay in her house. Facts often contradict our wishes. It's sad but true. Reject the burden. If they want to 'fix' it let them try. Spring: I loved the article about James Marsters, even if it wasn't anything new. Maybe SMG's comments were more about her personl feelings about the two men, but from those days to these I get the impression that an awful lot of people miss the boat in the telling of Spike's story. Really, I never thought it was about whether or not he ended up with Buffy, it was always about his self-rediscovery and his maturing as a person. He's going to be at Comicpalooza this weekend so maybe I'll get a chance to see him. be: #wavey# Julia: Bravo for the "no sign of cancer" part of the biopsy, but what does the 'inflammation' part mean? Sue: You are indeed the 'Travelin' Gal'. I'm glad at least some of thos trips are enjoyable. Best vibes to your sister. Radiation sucks--sometimes worse than chemo. This I know from up close observations. I applaud your supportiveness and wish you wonderful trips to visit the rest of your family. Can someone tell me how to post photographs on this new format? Nothing I've tried worked and I have a whole bunch of grand- and great-grandchildren pix I want to show off.

Also, a few quick thoughts on a few season finales. I doubt any of this is spoilerish, but still: In response to Anne's post about the Castle finale (in the Castle thread): Actually, I enjoyed many of the season episodes and the fun but very normal relationships between Beckett and Castle -- that's the way it's done, people.
But the last 2 eps of the season I found contrived and poorly written. Too over the top ridiculous and too quickly tied up -- and totally annoyed at the ending. It would have been better to finish with the wedding and the start next season off with a bang.
I make a habit of often watching season finales even if I haven't watched the show all season.
Enjoyed The Good Wife and really enjoyed The Mentalist (although those who watch regularly may have found the ending forced or out of character.)
the other "couples show" that has had a few very good episodes this season was Bones. Yes, it's uneven but they had a few really good ones. Interesting cliff-hanger there, that's for sure.
Person Of Interest has had a truly fascinating evolution all season long. Just so far from the first season procedural. Risky these big changes but so far I am totally on board.
Elementary finally got around to placing a character in "historical context" if you know what I mean.

Well, dang, I guess I'll just have to try growing my own. Good thing we have a fairly tall fence around the backyard; wouldn't want the local police patrol misled as to the contents of the garden. I did get the skirt finished, but I haven't started the class yet because other things got in the way, as usual. I'm going to try to finish the pile of things needing new elastic today so I can play with felt and beads tomorrow maybe. As for posting photos, I still put them on Photobucket and go from there.

Big hugs to those who need it!
Sue, I like your thoughts on the finale season; I was pleasantly surprised that they found a new twist to Bones "finale shocker" trope.
Does anyone (besides me) still watch Supernatural? I will admit that it has been wildly uneven, but given the events of Tuesday finale, I am officially intrigued again.

Today, I stayed inside. Today, I wore pjs. Today, I had the house to myself for several hours. I read, I watched three episodes of The New Red Green Show, and I finished the elastics replacement project and put away everything, and I got together the supplies for my online class.
Tomorrow, it's back to the rat races. But today, I sat, and sat, and sat, and enjoyed the quiet, and got a few things done. Just call me Jennyanydots.
Anne, on whom well-ordered households depend, it appears

Nothing I've tried worked and I have a whole bunch of grand- and great-grandchildren pix I want to show off. Hi, Diane. I liked the Buffy article too. SMG's preference for B/A is nothing new, and I thought the articles' suggestion that her recent tweet about it rocked fandom was a huge exaggeration . . . but I did think that James' comments about SMG's preference possibly having to do with him . . . I forget how he put it . . . playing with her mind, giving her a hard time in the way he approached their scenes . . . was a new thing for him to say.
It goes along with what you said, and I've always suspected that same sort of thing . . . SMG simply liked Boreanaz a lot better, for whatever reason, and it colored her view of B/A, B/S. That, and I always had the impression she really didn't understand B/S, why Buffy might get into such a relationship, etc. I didn't think she understood what Buffy was going through because, though I know she didn't have a perfect childhood, she still simply had never been through something as truly, deeply traumatizing as what Buffy went through.
Agree that Spike's story was never about Buffy, ultimately . . .and Buffy's wasn't about which guy she ended up with, either.
Enjoy Comicpalooza, and let us know how it goes.

Comicpalooza:
Many good things. A few bad things. Fun was had. Saw lots of friends. This time we got to all the panels we wanted to see. Learned a bunch of odd skills like working with craft foam and caring for cosplay wigs, combat fighting with long swords and how to costume a plus size figure.
Saw Nick Brendan and James (with James Leary, Claire Kramer, looking lovely) in a Buffy retrospective. Sorry my photos didn't come out, or I would have posted them. The others spent the hour trying to embarrass James (and succeeding). Did you know that he blushes when embarrassed? Waiting to see if Manperson's photos came out. If so I will TRY to publish. All were asked about violent scenes they had to film. James stated that the bathroom scene in Seeing Red was traumatic for him to do. He says that when he learns that a show or film has such scenes he won't do them. If they're on TV or in the theaters he won't go see them. I think I like him. He's not Spike anymore, but he's still cute as a button. The line of fans kept asking the same old, tired questions so I won't post them since you've heard them all already, many times over. James Leary looks GOOD.
Met Nichelle Nichols in the hotel restaurant. Bowed deeply. Called her 'Goddess'. Got gentle carress on my cheek. 81 years old and I should only look so good. Even in a wheelchair. Gracious, gracious, lovely lady. Bob saw her later, still in the restaurant, surrounded by fans and holding court like a queen. It must be nice to be validated like that.
Costumes looked fabulous. Many compliments, but getting too hard to move around in. Waiting for mobile throne to be finished.
Hotel could not get our food right--at least not the seafood. Lox and crab cakes both gone off; OTOH, hamburger and chicken were wonderful. Hardly paid for a single meal, though, as they tried to make it right. Staying at the hotel might have been expensive, but it was wonderful not having to wear a corset in the car to get to the con. Comfortable room.

Onj: LOVE IT!
(If you can add a fountain of free-flowing dark chocolate, even better!)
Sorry I've not been around much. I've got the Slayage conference in less than a month, and am trying to hammer out my paper, a roundtable presentation, all while working on a new novel and a non-fiction book about Dollhouse. Sadly, none of these things pay. Oh well.

*waves*
Diane, sounds like fun was had. Fun is good.
I have completed the first half of Lesson 1 of my online class, and I have three little felt heart ornaments. Tomorrow I'm going to attempt to choose colors for the second half. For the first lot, I just grabbed the first three sheets of felt that worked (three shades of muted purple), and I really want to try something more interesting this time around. But I also don't want to copy the class samples either... I'll get to it tomorrow. I'm thinking my usual "Laurel Burch palette" - bright, pink/purple/green/turquoise/orange/yellow sort of thing. Tomorrow.
Emily says that the baby bluebirds at the park are out of the nest boxes and trying to fly. She had a photo. Cute cute.
*refills brackets basket, checks supplies on teacart, sneaks away*
