Rewatching notes.
Lots of blue with hints of yellow (yellow-brown, yellow-tan, yellow-white, yellow-green) in this episode. Now I'm wondering if each episode has it's own color scheme.
They (being... Lindeman's people?) went through an awful lot of trouble to get Niki and Petrelli to sleep together.
I missed DL's appearance so I forgot to squee about what-his-name-Forrest. Squee! And he's so much hotter than he was on Buffy.
I've read a lot of interesting posts in lj land about the metaphorical interpretation of everyone's powers.
Niki as the (single) mother spread so thin that she feels she needs two of her to get everything done... actually is two people, or something.
Claire as a teenager, feeling invincible... actually is invincible. There was also an interesting interpretation about Claire waking up in the morque with her insides opened as a physical manifestation of the emotional turmoil of being raped.
Point of clarification: did Date Rapist actually rape Claire?

I'm trying to keep my eye on colors and so on, but I'm always happy when folks who are better at this than I point stuff out, so thanks! Soooo much hotter! #smirk# Cool ideas, with the metaphors and all. I'm not sure about the rape.

Point of clarification: did Date Rapist actually rape Claire? the way i interpreted that scene (which may or may not be accurate) was that the Date Rapist Guy tried to rape claire, claire fought back, and he started struggling with her in an attempt to overpower her and in the struggle he shoved her onto something that killed her. then, based on what the medical examiner was saying into the tape recorder and the phone, he stripped her, removed her i.d.s, and dumped her body in a creek.

Sara, dude! You ROCKED that review! Excellent work...
And I appreciate the thanks; although I think you did the work yourself; sometimes it helps to have someone to bounce the ideas off of. And you picked up on things I missed completely, like the symbol on Hiro's sword.
Speaking of Hiro, this was a lovely piece of writing AND insight: "Yet despite all his power, ultimately Future!Hiro himself could only point his friends in the right direction and hope it'd be enough to save Claire making Hiro, once again, the guy who knew exactly where to go and yet couldn't drive the car there himself." LOVED how you connected his inability to literally drive the car to his actions.
Masterful. You give me a lot to live up and admire.

First of all, I love the fact that you admit that you were initally stumped by the episode. Good to know I'm not the only one who experiences that. But then Erin gave you that very helpful insight, and you took it from there. You both deserve a giant pat on the back. I found your observations about Hiro quite interesting. He didn't seem to do much, but on closer inspection, he takes his role in saving the planet very seriously, and is doing his best to put a plan into action. And, I did not notice the missing tattoo, so thank you for pointing that out. Great review, Sara! From our biggest struggles comes our greatest triumphs.

Men acquire a particular quality by constantly acting a particular way... you become just by performing just actions, temperate by performing temperate actions, brave by performing brave actions.
Aristotle Great review and loved this quote, Sara! Of all of our special ability people, only Hiro, Peter and Isaac seem to be embracing their 'hero' destiny. Matt has been using his power to his advantage, but has yet to see the larger picture. Some of the 'sidekicks' are also embracing their supporting roles, and some of them are actively non-supportive. Are there also anti-heros in the mix? Nathan seems to be moving in that direction. Jessica, obviously. DL? He and Micah could be seen as being important to Niki. Simone/HRG - anti-sidekicks? Your review gave me lots of food for thought. Two more to read!

Yay, Sara! For a review that you struggled with at the start, you certainly came through for us!!
I particularly liked the way you re-saw Hiro in this. When I first watched this ep I was struck by the way that it is book ended by future!Hiro and now!Hiro. You made me notice even more of the reasons why it was named for him. As you said:
Plus, I loved loved loved this:
That is not only a very insightful idea, but also most excellently well put.
Finally, you also pointed out the parallels to Hiro’s earlier lesson in using his powers for his own purpose – Matt and Claire both get caught by this temptation. Very nice job in looking at all of these examples and noting that Claire has both more justification to do what she did while also learning more from her mistake and really understanding what was so wrong about the way she handled it. I tend to think we are meant to compare her and her father’s actions. See the way his solution was also as wrong as what she did, but that he doesn’t realize it like she does.

Thanks Erin, Karen, Fotada and Lola for all the kind words about my review—I appreciate the thoughts more than I can say. A visual of Hiro's sword, for any interested parties (I did some tinkering with the color and contrast levels, just to make the symbol easier to see):

Man - I love the subtlety employed by this show. Very cool.

Sara, I also love that this beautiful essay started out a stumper. Sometimes the best results come out of the hardest efforts. This one in particular. I'm short on time so I'll extend my kudos to both you and Erin for her 2 recent reviews now while I can. Loved Erin's advice: Yes, indeed Hiro is aply named. Of all the Japanese names they could have chosen they picked this one!
