Yup. Perhaps he believes if he gathers all the powers out there, he'll achieve some sort of pinnacle of evolution. If we're back to the "Sylar's power is collecting everyone else's power" assumption, okay. If that what his power IS (and I'm not unconvinced, what with the watchmaker lead-in and the whole mechanical aspect) I'm wondering how frakked up does he and HIS "father issues" thing have to be to be less evil than both Niki and Mohinder with theirs? He definitely absorbed the telekinetic power. I don't get the whole watchmaker angle either, except that it showed how strongly he resented following in his father's footsteps.

Archangel Gabriel? And Grey? You don't think so? That was sarcastic voice. I'm told it sounds much like my regular voice. And if that was your sarcastic voice, then it's damn-near identical to your regular voice. Nope, that's too complicated for me tonight. I'm tired and need to watch the whole ep all over again adn I got no sarcasm on whatsoever.

I took the watchmaker aspect as everything being mechanical and explainable...put this piece here and that piece there, then everything "works" perfectly together. I think he's trying to put all the pieces together in his frakked up way.

Grey? I'm not connecting that dot. Gabriel, from the things I've read, was "grey". Hmm....yes, I seem to recall reading that. The only thing that 'Gray' conjured up for me was "Dorian Gray".

I don't want a "16 Years Earlier" ep where we see Syler abused by HIS father, like Jessica's father did her, because...jeez, if that's the whole tenor of this show, I'm gonna have to tune out They do seem to be going with the 'sins of their fathers' angle. There's also the whole sibling issue, what with Mohinder also losing his sister that his father favored, and Nathan being the favorite of his and Peter's father. Hmmm...

Well, I was basing it on the fact that before he met Paul he appeared to have no abilities; afterward he was a telekinetic--just as Paul was. So I went with the conclusion they seemed to be pointing us toward: that one way or another, Gabriel took Paul's ability after he killed him. But I also agree that his affinity for mechanics, for fixing things, is related as well. Particularly given the point they made of showing he somehow has a perfect sense of time. I just haven't worked out how they might all be related. Yet. Dude--I'd call that a radical interpretation of the text. For one, Micah has an ability and his life's been abuse-free. Claire too seems to have grown up in a pretty happy household. And while Peter, Nathan and Mohinder all have father issues, they're a far cry from the kind Niki and Jessica have--more like the kind Apollo has with Adama. No need to borrow trouble before it's happened, y'know--I'm sure we'll find plenty of ways to worry about the show's direction as time goes by without jumping the gun now.

Well, we at least now know why he hasn't taken the watch off--it's such an integral part of his Sylar identity. What's still very curious, though, is that he hasn't fixed it even though he clearly is capable of doing so. Perhaps not fixing the watch, or even wearing a broken watch in the first place, is his symbolic way of asserting that new identity--that he's no longer Gabriel Gray, watchmaker's son.

Nathan gives us further reasons why one should always wear one's seatbelt, today.

And on top of that, he's got some sort of weird collecting thing going on with the various talents.. which is just his psychosis and greediness, not so much a talent-thing.

Yeah, you know, it's never good to call yourself on the phone....
Do we think watchmaker guy is Sylar? I guess I'll find out what we think in a few minutes.
And all these changes happened in the last six months. Odd.
Jeez, it's cold in this room....

Ayup. Plus, maybe our first guess about Sylar being a power-sucker was the right one. Maybe.
Okay. I can't take it anymore. The science is abominable. Beyond "suspend your disbelief" into "what, you couldn't afford a SINGLE science consultant?"
Mutations do NOT exist primarily to "cause cancer or disease or" did he really say "eliminate a species"?
Mutations simply are. They happen, at random, and are the raw material of selection. They either help an organism survive and reproduce in a given environment, or they don't. Or they hinder. They don't exist for any reason, and no geneticist would talk the way Suresh does. Not even a fringe scientist.
And they should just stop talking about the "science". Really. Just stop. It's literally gibberish. At least the X-men know where to get fuzzy with the details.

Nope. YOU can't change the past. But you might be able to talk others into doing it for you.
Oh, and also...Peter clearly has a power of his own. He's clairvoyant. Sometimes.
So...Sylar can look at someone else's brain and then reconfigure his own?

I think "mimicked", not "absorbed". And let's not forget the religious overtones of "watchmaker" to begin with. William Paley used the watchmaker as the analogy for a designer of life in "Natural Theology" in 1802. The Argument From Design - if you happened upon a stone while walking, you'd assume it was just a stone - and it might always have been there. No designer needed. But if you happened across a watch, the complexity of the watch would immediately preclude you thinking it "just happened" or had always been there - you'd immediately assume a designer must have made it. I won't go into why this is a bad argument here, 'cause, not the place. However, the "watchmaker" is God. (And the "blind watchmaker" is natural selection - a la Richard Dawkins.)

So, who do we think is gonna buy it? Early money among those I know is on Nathan, but I'm thinking Eden myself. I can only guess who I think it probably won't be. Peter, Claire, Hiro, Niki, Nathan. They need Isaac though; as a precog. Nathan is useful in terms of political connections (money and power), but he keeps denying his powers and obstructing Peter. If HRG hasn't quietly killed Sylar, which would be a very good idea, then Eden might be one of the few people who can stop him, along with Psychic-Damper guy.
Matt's future doesn't look too good right now, ditto whasisname Niki's cute hubby. But if Jessica kills the hubby, it could cripple Niki and Micah.
What about poor Ando - not a hero in power, but important to Hiro and a hero in heart?
I don't want to see any of them bite it, but I'd weep less for Nathan than anyone else.

That's one of the nice little details about this show - people are people and people have problems. Gabriel Grey-Sylar has mental problems and father issues not directly related to his power. Niki!Jessica's multiple personality goes back to being abused as a child. Peter is a good hospice nurse because he cares about others. They all have strengths and weaknesses because they're only human, not only because they're superhuman. If that makes sense. I think we saw Hiro growing up and growing into his power a bit there, poor baby. He's learning that even a superhero can't save everybody, no matter how hard he tries.
