Peter picked up Claire's talent casually. Vlad Questions I want answers to/plotlines resolved next season: 1. Did Papa Petrelli have a power? And what is Mama Petrelli's power? I don't know about Papa Petrelli but I think Mama's is persuasion, like Eden's. And don't they LOOK related? Good one. Me, too! Charles was the only one who saw Peter on the roof so I'm thinking that was Charles who was doing it, not Peter going back in time. Maybe Charles could do something like the football boy did with Momo in his dreams? Peter was unconscious in the alley right before. And remember the dream Peter had when Charles died? Maybe Charles really WAS talking to him, but in his dream. You don't survive it! Not even a cockroach could! I still think the boogey-roach is the new Big Bad for S2 and, if it can "see" from anyone, it could be that it's known about the Boom Plan since forever, which is why it chose to take the form of a cockroach, knowing it would survive the radiation*, if not the blast - hence the hiding in the sewer. * Yes, I know that's not strictly true, scientifically, but it's "received wisdom" these days and might have been incorporated into the story.

I’ve enjoyed all of the analysis and discussion. Thanks S’cubies. I’m doomed to follow and mostly say ETA!
Sara, your idea about how Peter could set Sylar on a path towards redemption was excellent! I think it would have been especially apropos given what Shaft-dude said about Peter’s heart.
Jeff, I was a bit disappointed with the finale too. I’m not sure why. It was excellent, and I can’t pinpoint anything major…just not wowed like I thought I would be. Maybe I’d allowed my expectations to get out of control? I’m gonna watch again on Friday on SciFi and see if I can analyze it. Sometimes, it’s on second viewing that it all gels for me, where the ideas click under the surface.
Sue, your 7th question is especially bothering me. “Why didn't Peter just fly himself up into the air? Only one power at a time?” I thought Nathan’s line about why the cheerleader needing saving wasn’t clear either. In fact, as I’m reading and thinking and typing, I’m realizing that maybe my disappointment is with Peter and Sylar’s resolutions. I’m thinking Sylar should have been the exploding man, and Nathan flew HIM up into space, killing them both. After Peter tried valiantly to save everyone, yada yada. Also, I now realize I was expecting more of a group effort in stopping Sylar and the bomb. (So maybe underwhelmed is the word! Tho lots of folks gave good explanations for things.)
My head is hurting thinking about Peter’s power absorptions. I’m thinking if he survives, next season better put a lid on those powers or it’ll degenerate into a Q vortex.
Pixi – I agree about the standout episodes. Especially Five Years Gone….
There was much I did love – Hiro’s innocent determination to be a hero, for one. Nikki’s desperate desire to hold her family together, for another. Noah’s redemption and elevation to “the man with the plan.” Ando’s Xandar-channeling everyman rising to the occasion. Claire’s willingness to risk extreme pain to accomplish her goals. (Hey she heals but imagine the excruciating pain she’s experienced.) Parkman’s unequivocal morality. The overall intensity.
Can’t wait for next season.

See, I actually think that Peter only being able to access one power at a time is his limit on his power. Sylar, because his original power was intuitive understanding (similar to but not the same as empathy), was able to rewrite his DNA, or whatnot, in order to be able to access, say, super-hearing and telekenesis at the same time. But we've never seen Peter, for instance, fly and disappear at the same time. He chooses which one will be more applicable to the situation. If he's mortally wounded, Claire's indestructibility. If needing to give Sylar a beatdown, Niki's superstrength. If needing to disappear, invisibility.
But he couldn't fly or really access anything because he was overloading. It took Ted ages to control his radioactivity, and that was his only power. Peter was getting a handle on it, but being overloaded with DL, Niki, Micah, and Molly's powers in his presence, after his fight with Sylar? Too much.

No, but it would be nice. Dude. At the time I started this thread I'd been awake for less than two hours; I'm lucky I spelled all the words I used correctly. But just for you, here's a few options for your teaser text: 1. Answer: dump a truckload of water on him. 2. Tonight it looks like we'll find out whether Peter or Sylar is king of the hill, top of the heap in Old New York... 3. Get your death-count tickers handy and have the Kleenex nearby, as Heroes concludes its first season this evening with what promises to be one helluva finale. 4. Sylar bad, Peter pretty. I think I like #4 best.

Actually, Sue had it the first time: he can only use one power at a time. Which is something I'm almost sure they established quite a few episodes back, but obviously not very successfully—even Greg didn't realize it, and he almost always gets that sort of thing before I do. I'll have to see if I can figure out in which episode it was established... Oh, and I personally have no doubt Peter lived; in "Five Years Gone" he admitted to Jessica that he'd been the one who exploded in that timeline, and yet there he was talking with her. So clearly whatever happens when he explodes isn't permanently fatal to him. In fact, we don't actually know what will happen to him physically; I just think we all hear "explode" and visualize a CSI team collecting body parts with a squeegee. But we also saw Ted discharge energy without any harm to his body whatsoever, which to me makes it very possible Peter wasn't harmed at all. I agree. I think after thinking more about it, he has to be alive. Do you think that Sylar used that cockroach he was so fixated on when he was held hostage in the paper factory to survive? That he somehow gained the cockroaches power? They had to have focused on that cockroach over and over again for some reason. I'm thinking now that the cockroach is a manifestation of the Even Bigger Bad that Molly mentioned. And that in another form, he dragged/pushed/psychokenesisized Sylar's body down the manhole. Or helped him, if he was still alive. And I'm with Rachael & Co.--Why can't anybody realize they have to cut Sylar's damn head off???!!! ETA SHAN!!! Don't give up on the Cockroach as Bigger Bad theory!! You & me together, babe. We shall face the ridicule hurled at our fine theory with a dignity that will shame all the others when September proves us to be right. (and if wrong, well, we'll just forget all about it, shall we?)

No time to think, and didn't Hiro take his sword with him anyway? Actually, Hiro probably would've done it, but he's a bit... distracted right now. Or then. Whenever.

I enjoyed the finale immensely; could've used a bit more of a slam-bang finish, but for the most part...they managed to get almost every hero involved in the final battle with Sylar. Probably can't ask much more than that, since this IS "Heroes," after all, rather than "Peter Fights While Everyone Else Watches." :-) From a completely selfish point of view, I'd be very displeased if Matt Parkman were killed off, because I love Greg Grunberg so much. I've been rooting for him to have a chance to show his true range of talent for years, and this show has finally given him the opportunity. Oh, and I truly hope Sylar is gone. Zachary Quinto did a fantastic job in the role, but there's only so much I can handle. As Faith might say, dude is wicked creepy. From your lips to Tim Kring's ears. The guy/character really makes my skin crawl. (And, not really even in a good way.)

The final paragraph summary is excellent and reminds me of a thought I have about next year: I really hope they can make a show that's not all "Fantastic 40." Instead of just all super-heros all the time. I really want them to explore more the Hero in the Common Man. Ando is an excellent start.

Was Peter ever exposed to Linderman? 3. Where is Claude? I want MORE Claude next season. Especially if, as indicated by the title card "Generations" at the end of the episode, we are going to "go back" and see Linderman, the elder Petrellis, Hiro's dad, and Shaft.4. If Charles had a power, does that mean Simone did too? Or was he just part of an organization of interest, so to speak. 5. Season Finale, re: Peter: "How Do You Stop an Exploding Man?"; will the season premiere be: "How Do You Survive a Huge Sword Through the Chest?" From a post-finale live blog with Tim Kring and Hayden Panetierre: We love Christopher Eccleston and we are really hoping that he'll return to the show next season. It's purely a matter of his availability as an actor, but we're very much interested in that.

I was thinking (this is never good) about the way things turned out. Dramatically (and probably mythically), if Sylar survives, Peter should survive, just because you need that dark vs light balance. By the same token, Nathan should be dead. He started out morally ambiguous, aiding and abetting evil. He redeemed himself by saving his brother and the world, preventing the very thing he'd been working toward. It's a sacrifice thing. If he comes back next season, either he's all good all the time (boring) or he's just repeating all his moral issues from this season (ditto). I'd rather watch Mr Bennet unfold his morally grey plans. I am really looking forward to seeing how he develops next season versus how Future!Mr Bennet turned out. Which by the way, I have been rather amused by the fact that Noah Bennet, who will do anything to save his family, including kill, shares a name with one of the most ineffectual, passive fathers in the history of literature, Eliza Bennet's papa. I am sometimes way too easily amused.
