I enjoyed the finale immensely; could've used a bit more of a slam-bang finish, but for the most part...they managed to get almost every hero involved in the final battle with Sylar. Probably can't ask much more than that, since this IS "Heroes," after all, rather than "Peter Fights While Everyone Else Watches." :-) and We've really had a chance to see his character's good and bad and in-between selves, haven't we? Yeah. Sylar? A bit too eepsome. Of course, there's always the "worse" guy yet to come.

Forgot this one: Now that Mr. Bennet has a name, will The Haitian be given one too? And why wasn't he at Kirby Plaza? That would have made a huge amount of sense; neither Sylar nor Peter would have been able to use their power. Then again, Mama Petrelli probably thought of that and sent him away, since they wanted it to happen. That was what I was thinking - that Mama P wanted him away from things so the big bang could happen.

Questions I want answers to/plotlines resolved next season: 1. Did Papa Petrelli have a power? And what is Mama Petrelli's power? I don't know about Papa Petrelli but I think Mama's is persuasion, like Eden's. And don't they LOOK related? Good one. Me, too! Charles was the only one who saw Peter on the roof so I'm thinking that was Charles who was doing it, not Peter going back in time. Maybe Charles could do something like the football boy did with Momo in his dreams? Peter was unconscious in the alley right before. And remember the dream Peter had when Charles died? Maybe Charles really WAS talking to him, but in his dream. You don't survive it! Not even a cockroach could! I still think the boogey-roach is the new Big Bad for S2 and, if it can "see" from anyone, it could be that it's known about the Boom Plan since forever, which is why it chose to take the form of a cockroach, knowing it would survive the radiation*, if not the blast - hence the hiding in the sewer. * Yes, I know that's not strictly true, scientifically, but it's "received wisdom" these days and might have been incorporated into the story.I like your idea that persuasion might me Mama P's power. And, in a tangenty way, I sometimes think it is Benry's power too . . . Also? I like your roach theory. ;D

I’ve enjoyed all of the analysis and discussion. Thanks S’cubies. I’m doomed to follow and mostly say ETA! Sara, your idea about how Peter could set Sylar on a path towards redemption was excellent! I think it would have been especially apropos given what Shaft-dude said about Peter’s heart. Excellent point about Mr. D's conversation with Peter. I bet we'll see more examples of the usefullness of Peter's core talent - empathy - in seasons to come. Especially as he struggles with absorbing all sorts of other powers. ;D ;D ;D Eetah to this list. I'd also add the moment between Hiro and his dad, when dad shows him he believes in his decision. And the cute moment between Micah and Molly. And some more that I can't remember right now. ;D Yeppers!

Oh, and I still want to know who it was Claude saved from Primatech. I have a theory. It could be bunnies?

I agree. I think after thinking more about it, he has to be alive. Do you think that Sylar used that cockroach he was so fixated on when he was held hostage in the paper factory to survive? That he somehow gained the cockroaches power? They had to have focused on that cockroach over and over again for some reason. I'm thinking now that the cockroach is a manifestation of the Even Bigger Bad that Molly mentioned. And that in another form, he dragged/pushed/psychokenesisized Sylar's body down the manhole. Or helped him, if he was still alive. And I'm with Rachael & Co.--Why can't anybody realize they have to cut Sylar's damn head off???!!! ETA SHAN!!! Don't give up on the Cockroach as Bigger Bad theory!! You & me together, babe. We shall face the ridicule hurled at our fine theory with a dignity that will shame all the others when September proves us to be right. (and if wrong, well, we'll just forget all about it, shall we?)Heeeeee!! **skitters in and joins the Cockroach as Bigger Bad team** **skitters away when someone turns on the kitchen light**

I was thinking (this is never good) about the way things turned out. Dramatically (and probably mythically), if Sylar survives, Peter should survive, just because you need that dark vs light balance. By the same token, Nathan should be dead. He started out morally ambiguous, aiding and abetting evil. He redeemed himself by saving his brother and the world, preventing the very thing he'd been working toward. It's a sacrifice thing. If he comes back next season, either he's all good all the time (boring) or he's just repeating all his moral issues from this season (ditto). **nods** Yep. I'm thinking, Peter alive and Nathan dead is the most likely outcome. Which will be wicked hard on Peter, emotionally. ;D

This season finale, along with the one for JERICHO, turned out to be the only two I have enjoyed this season. Even my father enjoyed the finale, and he seemed surprised by his feeling. At first I could not understand why it was important for Claire to be saved, earlier in the season . . . until I remebered that she did the very same thing to Nathan that Buffy did to Spike during that show's final season; and what Luke did to Anakin/Vader. Claire empowered him. She reminded Nathan that he was not the monster that Mama Petrelli wanted him to be. I was glad to see that more and more writers are acknowledging that it takes more than some form of violent action to be a hero. Great job, Mr. Kring! I cannot wait for Season Two. Oooh, yes! That is a very excellent way to describe the core of what was going on there!

Part II "She's not a machine." Seriously, Daddy Bennett. Only one that Molly can't track. Some one a lot worse. Who can see her when she thinks about him. Let's see, The Man With No Name? God I am so sick of the "keep Claire safe" crap. Flashback? Did he go back in time briefly? Death can be beautiful if you let it be. Death is the one thing that connects us all Simone's dad is in on it too. So Simone's dad must have the dreaming and Peter picked up on it, hence his dreams at the beginning of the season. Ooooh, that is excellent!

Part III Oh, so I guess Ando really did run off to confront Sylar by himself. Awesome sword trick. Oh, Ando ran off because he saw it in the comic book. Oh, that's cruel. Pretending to be Jessica and making Nikki think Micah is dead? **nods** She always has that very cruel streak in her. I find it interesting that Micah could see some niceness in her - underneath the scary/mean. Since he can "fix" things, maybe he could . . . see inside her, see what makes her tick, so to speak? And that's why he saw good stuff too? **bounces and eetahs** One thing they definitely emphasized in the finale was the idea of caring and emotional attachement as the ultimate strength. Making people that are perceived as "weak" be the strongest ones. You know, that's a good question. I've been trying to put together all the elements that came together to make Nathan decide to change his mind and stop the explosion. And the horrible feeling that Claire had killed herself when she jumped out the window rather than be part of that plan, until he saw her get up and walk away, could very well have been a part of that.

My thoughts before reading the thread: I think I expect too much from show's finales. And with such a high bar to reach, it's inevitable that there is a slight sense of disappointment. But I've always been one who enjoys the buildup and the anticipation. So, in one sense, I have to say I was a little disappointed in the Heroes finale. I expected, I don't know - an apocalyptic battle and dead heroes everywhere. Maybe that's why we didn't see it. The producers like surprising the audience. Granted Nathan's sacrifice was heartwarming and well done and I'm a bad viewer who needs to be whapped for wanting more I guess. Things I like: They named Mr. Bennett Noah? Okay, processing, processing. He doesn't remind me of a Noah but okay (what's up with all the biblical names anyway. Micah, Noah, Peter, Matthew - isn't Sylar's real name Gabriel?, Isaac. Lots of Biblical names). So is there any significance to it? Claire jumping out the window and then nonchalantly regenerating was cool. Jessica whapping Sylar over the head with a parking meter was cool. Nathan choosing good over evil and flying in was cool. Sylar nonchalantly stopping the bullets and sending them back at Matt. The mention of the Bogeyman. That scene was scary. Hiro and Ando. Awwww. They are just too cute together. Loved their scene. All of Isaac's paintings came true. Lovely bit of continuty tie up. Lovely. Things I didn't like as much: Why didn't Candace morph into a Jabba the Hutt girl (which they implied) when she was unconscious? The lack of a big battle with bodies flying and Peter and Sylar throwing their powers at each other, and Peter using the invisibility talent. Things I don't know the answer to and am confused about: Is Sylar still alive? That blood trail into the sewer seemed to imply that. Is Peter alive? Well, first exploding but did he regenerate? Or is he gone for good? (Go ahead and tell me this one if you know because I don't mind knowing characters for next season. But nothing else.) Why did Sylar let Hiro just stab him like that? I guess he was just overconfident and didn't take Hiro seriously. Love is the key? Oh please. Can we just stop with the sappy? I mean I'm all for love but Peter is the key because he can love? ARGH! I am confused about that scene - though points for cool - with dead man walking on the rooftop. And I could have done without seeing Simone again. And Niki is back? No, dear God no. Keep badass Jessica. I hate whiney, emo Niki. I feel like they felt the need to TIE UP EVERY STORY and it just didn't work. There was too much cutting back and forth and the pacing felt a little off and I just wanted to focus on the battle. And I think I would never have revealed the face of Linderman as he was a better Big Bad when we didn't know who he was. Now Mama Petrelli - she rocks as a baddie. I like her in that role. As far as the ending - well I still adore Hiro and I thought that was interesting. Not wild or shocking or overwhelmingly intriguing but interesting. I'll certainly be back and it's a good direction to go in. In the end though, as much as I nitpick, I get that each of these Heroes had to go on a journey. Each hero had a destiny. And, if I was one of those analytical types, I imagine you can go back through the season and see each Heroes step along the way into their destiny. Hiro, Nathan, Peter, Claire, Niki, Isaac, Matt, Sylar - well-defined destiny's and the dreams pointing the way. But this season had two standout shows: Company Man and Five Years Gone that were pretty much up there with the best television ever. The finale didn't quite get there but it was still good. Kudos Heroes on a great freshman season. Hey! That's a really good point.**nods**

I HATE this show! Nah. I really love this show. I was so psyched to see pretty much every hero involved in the fight against Sylar. Jessica empowering Nikki was perfect and when she took the meter from Sylar and hit him with it, I practically shouted my cheering out loud! More to say, but I have to go. Except for this, I believe that shape shifter really looks different from the image she showed all of us. She said she was huge and then started talking about how mean people are to each other because of where they are from and how they look. She sounds bitter and it seems to strike close to home. She could be a giantess or something, but she isn't what she appeared to be. Also? Cruelty was only part of the motivating factor for what she did to Nikki. The other part motivating her was to keep Nikki from saving her son from the inevitable. The only way to get rid of Nikki was to take her by surprise and wound her so deeply that she would give up and not fight back. Also? I think the cruelty comes in because Nikki looks like she wants to look and Jessica was always "Linderman's girl". Or, I could be talking out of my butt. ;D Excellent finale. I'm geeked for next year.

So, I was thinking. If Peter can access more than one of his latent absorbed powers at the same time, and he can still fly, the odds aren't bad that he would have flown away from Nathan and then exploded and Nathan could still be alive and Peter hopefully, could have survived the reaction. (Though I find that hard to believe since it would have torn his body asunder and incinerated him completely.)
That's all.

**nods** I'm glad he came thru in the end. The brothers loved each other and, ultimately, Nathan listened to Claire and couldn't let Peter be responsible for people dying. And Nathan thought about his daughter and couldn't let Claire be responsible for Peter dying either - Nathan took the gun and said something to her. Fathers are good. Hiro's, Micah's, Claire's (both of them, adoptive and bio). Even poor confused Matt Parkman thought about his wife and kid, and chose to save Molly. I need tea. Maybe I'll think more clearly when I'm awake. I noticed the fatherly theme too, Anne. They could have called the episode "Who's your Daddy?" ;D And it all ties into the fact that the heroes get their superpowers genetically: Linderman orchestrated D.L. and Nikki's relationship so that they would produce Micah, for example. I do not think Sylar is dead, but Nathan is. I really, really hope that Matt is not dead, but he was hit with 4 or 5 bullets whereas D.L. was only hit with 1. D.L. will survive, I'm guessing, but Eric Roberts (don't know his character name) is almost surely dead. Linderman: also dead. Apropos of nothing, I saw Milo V (Peter) in a Fergie music video. He was covered in tattoos and looked sexy in a scruffy way. How far he's come from his Gilmore Girl days!

I'm hoping that Nathan just sort of space shuttled him up there, let him go, and zoomed off before Peter exploded. And then Peter, once he exploded, could access his flying power to get back down again. Or, you know, he could crash land and then kind of ooze back together again.
