Great review/analysis, Sara! So very true (and so it's good that you started with it) that: It's often the sophomore year of a show that can make or break it, will it have staying power, will it continue to grow and change, etc. I hadn't consciously thought of how each character is flipped from last season, but your bullet points summed it up nicely. It is an elegant response to that sophomore year challenge. Then, when you brought out the theme of family, I was all "oh, wow, that is very true, and very fitting for Heroes, how did I not notice it more clearly". This is exactly the thing that I look for in a review/analysis. Yay, Sara! In particular, it is the perfect way to show how the new characters of Maya and Alejandro work within this them and I loved your take on Hiro and his father: Your understanding and knowledge of the comic world and its connections to Heroes is much appreciated by me. I know that these elements are important (knowing what we do about the writers) and yet I would miss them without someone to help me out. Your theory about Nathan is . . . well, excitingly new and full of juicy story potential! And your examples are enticingly logical! Also? Much giggling over "the Incredible Hulk and Typhoid Mary's love child" as well as your awesomely snarky (as usual) "other thoughts". ;D

Sara! Great work on the review! I thought it would be a hard episode to write about; there's a lot of questions, but answers seem to be very far away...and yet you managed to do a very cogent breakdown of where its at and what it might mean in the long run. I share your annoyance at the disappearance of certain characters; one reference to DL's fate was too much for the episode? Seriously? Also, great pick-up on noticing the theme of "family." Loved the Pretty in Pink reference, and the comparison of Mr. Bennet's boss to the Mouth Breather and Dwight Shrute. Masterful. Those are my initial thoughts on the review...and let me give you a big "You're Awesome!" for how quickly you turned it around! What she said - your review was also very useful as a reminder of what to watch for tonight, not to mention a wonderful entertaining read all on its own.

It's particularly good to know some folks don't mind my digressions into comic-book lore, as I'm never sure if the info is of any interest. Especially given how seldom the parallels I draw actually pan out.

Teaser
Ooh, I like this little catch up sequence.
The Superhero plague.
Hey It's That Guy Egghead!
hey, hypnosis is a *serious* thing.
Oooh, new characters who aren't American!
Bennett's are now in California.
Was Daddy Bennett oogling a teenager?
Hiro landed in the middle of a battle.
Hiro pulled Kensei out of time.
So Matt finally made detective? Yay!
Claire is still testing herself and risking getting caught.
Are you one of them, or one of the others? Alien or Robot?
So these two are going to become illegal aliens.
Matt is divorced!! Is that just to make his plot line more interesting? And what about the baby?
Pictures of eyes. And the symbol.
Back in the plaza where the finally went down.
Hiro is 30?
Whoa! Check out the beard on Nathan. It's... actually not that bad, as beards on tv go. It's definitely better than Jack's beard on the Lost finale. Is it real
The older generation is being targeted?
Hiro and Kensei are still in the past? Just in a different place?
Oh, this is Kensei.
Sark!!! Whoo hoo!
This is why you should never meet your heroes.

Part I
Copy Kingdom. Hee.
Daddy Bennett still likes paper.
A moral imperative to protect the species.
Matt and Suresh are raising Molly together. Fun!
Hey, I really like Molly. The actress who's playing her does a good job.
The Bennett's are witness protection basically.
So, there's a menace haunting Molly in her dreams.
gaijin.
So Kensei is English. David Anders gets to do his British accent again.
Fighting dirty vs fighting smart.
Were Mama Petrelli and Daddy Nakamura romantically involved?
Now there are nine. There were twelve originally.
Hiro broke history.
No future. No cars. No Ando. No me. Hee! I guess Hiro really did love that Yaris.
The swordsmith's daughter.

Part II
Wow, Lyle had a growth spurt.
Mr. Muggles.
So Suresh and Daddy Bennett are working together to bring down the Paper Company.
Claire makes late nightcall to Nathan.
Whoa! Freaky reflection! Is that supposed to be Nathan? Or Peter? Or?
Claire's new boyfriend can also fly.
There goes Daddy Nakamura. What was his power anyway?
Ireland.
Storage crates are cool.
It's Peter! And his hair hasn't grown in 4 months. And how did end up in a storage crate in Ireland?
He's got the symbol on a necklace. Was he bagged and tagged by the Paper Company?

After a loooooong wait, the second season of Heroes is finally here! Here's a fun bit o' trivia for you: Adrian Pasdar auditioned to play Milo Ventimiglia's father in a proposed spin-off of Milo's Gilmore Girls character Jess.

Hiro is going to rescue the swordsmith and become the Hero that the legend was based on... At least I think so...
G.Hmm, that seems likely.

Maya and Alejandro remind me nothing of Nikki and Paola (from LOST) other than both pairs are Latino characters. I really liked them. And I like that the show is still making an effort to reach its storylines across the world. I mean, it's going to be US centric since it's an American show targeted towards an American audience, but it's supposed to be about a global phenomena, so I like that they're reaching out there and introducing more characters who don't speak English.
