This isn't discussion so much as gossip, but I wanted to put it out where people might see it without annoying the non-fic readers on the main thread. First, when last we left "Tea and Biscuits" by Byrne, Wesleysgirl and Magpie, that maddening and occassionally wonderful S/G/We, S/A/We, G/E and in a strange case of bilateral near-noncon, G/A, Spike was standing over Giles' silent form and demanding explanations. That was a year ago. Byrne has a line in a recent post in her lj that "Tea and Biscuits is almost finished." Second, a less well known and very promising X/O, "Dark of the Moon", by Moosesal, will be finshed, someday, she promises. OH- Wesleysgirl and JaneDavitt will have a sequal to "Saturation" coming up very soon, it is in beta now. Julia, hoping all this stuff will happen soon I always have hopes that writers of long-languishing WIPs are secretly finishing them and will suddenly produce marvels for our delight. Good to here some perhaps good news on that front. Now, if only I could somehow magically influence Siege to finish "Xanpet" and Ladycat to go back to "Hearth". And as long as I'm wishing for the impossible, why not ask for several million dollars as well. ;D

Hi.
Alias fic thread? Yes, no, I don't give a damn?
I'm happy to make one (tomorrow, after sleepage), especially if there's gonna be a big bunch more Alias fics coming up.

Before I (attempt) to reinvent the wheel:
Yesterdays comments to Anna about reading specific fanfic writers made me wish that we had a one stop alphabetical listing with links to all writers. [Like the list at allaboutspike with authors, melded with the list of links. And a separate one for archives. So when someone says, "You should read XXXXX, I could go to the alphabetical thread in the rec area and find XXXXX and click on it to find, not just a story but the author's website or possibly LJ memories. ]
I know that not everyone has their stories organized or archived or on a website, but there are plenty of "classics" to start with.
I also know that Rachael would need to give her blessing as once the list/s were posted either she or the original poster would have to take responsibility for updating with edits.
I know this is an impossible task, but thought I could start by trolling through all the old posts and just starting a Word document and slowly add stuff to it.
Then (#lightbulb#) it occurred to me that something like this is probably already in existance out there somewhere. Or at least the bones to start listing on.
So, thought I'd ask. I sometimes have ideas, but can't see all of the ramifications so it's best to get input/feedback from others before going off half-brained.
If I get no response here, I'll try asking on the main board.

I am willing to take on the task of making a document that alphabetizes everyone's favorite fic authors and add it to the RR thread. But I'd need people to tell me whose stuff wants to be on the list, and where it can be found. Much of this is already to be found in the "Archives and LJ communities" thread. Not alphabetized or anything.

It's not something that will happen quickly, tho. I'll work up an early draft with a basic few dozen and then we can all add to it regularly.

Sue I actually had about 30 entries, with current links and a checklist of features (including how the thread was sorted, whether it was searchable or not, and other features ailable on the archive) on a Author Archives Master List for posting here, which was one of the things which went down when my hard drive died in November. Now I've got a random list of author archives sperad in my bookmarks, and I can either write and garden or I can do that. (I also lost about 30,000 words of meta on the interaction of dramatic structure in BtVS and AtS and the development of fanfic themes, and that's never coming back). You're right, this needs to be gathered, organized and posted, but it's so much like real work that whoever takes it on has got to be braver, harder working, and more diligent than I am prone to be. Julia, trying to train certain female offspring to be responsible, self reliant, and useful is taking up all my time this summer.

Well, I'm good with starting on it, but making absolutely NO promises. Going away in a week. Tons of kids and people and stuff in August. Trips in Sept. VM starts in Oct. Then the holidays. What I'm thinking is trying to just put in an hour or two a couple of times a week and once I get a decent list in the not too too distant future I can post it and then go back to gathering and others can also add on to it. Anybody who wants to send me names and URLs can IM me: Author's Name URL comments (none necessary, but if you want to say "Spuffy" or "Spander" or mainly PG or what not. Don't know whether if I copy it all into a word document if that will cause formating issues when posting.

By sifting through the stuff we already have and making it...make sense.

I have about 5-10 new archives which I've not yet gotten into the LJ Communities area; I'll try to do that sometime in the next couple of days, assuming I don't expend all my energy on mere daily life. I will also go back and look thru past posts to see if I ever posted my list of bookmarked sites for individual authors. If I did, you should be able to steal from it here, but if not, I'll PM that to you.

Help.
I have a question. Randomly going thru links last night I wound up at allaboutspike and clicked on "webmistress recs." Then I chose to go to MustangSally and Chase's story "Eldorado I."
My question is: Is there a sequel to this story? The supposed link to MustangSally's website didn't take me anywhere useful.

Copied from Main board:
In answer to Sue's question:
Re your question, the second part of this intended trilogy has been, for practical purposes, abandoned, it seems, as both writers have either gone on to other fandoms or (temporararily) quit writing altogether. Julia would know better than I, but I loved that substantial tale and found its portrayal of druggie Spike most intriguing. I wanted *answers*! It seems now that I'm unlikely to get them.
Then Sue said: Sorry to have been unclear, Sue. The first part, with its "gotcha" concerning the revelation, to Xander, of the actual situation of El Dorado and his life and his marriage and his job and the whole ball of wax, is the only part there is, or is likely to be, it would seem. The authors have said they intended to expand on the Faith-Spike situation in the next part...that doesn't seem to be happening.
So no--there is no second part. There is no spoon. There is no more of this story, though it's a substantial one in its own right.

We were really getting to the meat, as it were, just as the story ended.
