No clothes to analyse. Lots of stripy blinds shadows. Light and dark, always striking. And she is wearing a neck chain. Little shiny restriction.
Nice little conversation. Angel used to go to bars. Comparing experiences. Establishing how different this is from Sunnydale. Everyone knew everyone. Now everyones a stranger.
Cordelia's recap of the curse I could live without. I'm like, yes, we know, we get it. But I guess there are some people who watched Angel without having seen Buffy. Or caught this episode as the first one they saw. Is difficult for me to imagine such people cause I've been here since the film.
"The last thing I want is to show up at the office and find that I'm working for a homicidal monster."
Tactful as ever.
Telescope through the window, lots of blinds, bed full of blood, very different looking same girl. Very dead man. Shot packs the info in. Why the telescope?
I love the outside of Angel's building. All old fashioned shapes and really pretty, and with the steps, grand entrance. Brown and white with a little splash of red. Earth for backgrounds is useful I guess. I'm thinking contrasts with s5 colors.
Doyle only has the one jacket ever, right? So the only significant change in that datum would be if he ever took it off. People keeping coats on is sort of shut off and armoured, for all that he talks about connections.
Cordy has a new top, pretty blue with a big splot of flower. Looks kinda like she's been shot. Not my favourite.
Angel has a top that could conceivably be called red. More brown though, definitely not fresh blood vamp colors.
Doyle's shirt is green again, this time lighter and without the ghastly patterns.
green is for new and growth and also envy, blue is for true, red is for passion but faded out to that is more dried up.
"Downloading pictures of naked women?"
"Well thats more or less accurate."
Doyle happier to be though a perv by a girl he fancies than to mention the whole thing where he is educated and used to be a teacher? Whats with that? Trying to hide much?
Angel heading to the bar wearing his other coat, the one that sweeps.
Kate not flowery or frilly today. Plain very dark green shirt. Color coordinates with Doyle, contrasts with Angel.
Currently possessed girl is wearing a different outfit than we saw her put on at recently dead dudes place. Different chain, red instead of pink top. Victim guy is charcoal tonight. Lots of people are. Its creepy, all these grey people and the demon gives them color- blood colors.
"Demons. Is there anything more disgusting?"
and we're focused on Doyle's face so we can see him freeze. Not quite rabbit in the headlights, more like not going to react.
Unhappy face by end of conversation.
This would be why he waits so long to tell her about his demon half. He thinks he knows how she will react, from this. Demons, eew.
Oh look, big snakey demon thing entering guy from behind, aargh!
cheap comments go here.
That flat with the counter and the pillar looks familiar from later but only vaguely.
Angel can break in therefore resident is dead.
very messily dead, and before the tail is all the way in. icky.
bad thing wearing black now.
Fight, comes up in vamp face. Saves on morph effects. Spends a lot of time vamped out here when I wouldnt so much expect him to compared to later. I mean its like its easier to bring the vampire out.
The stunt guy doesnt have the daft spiky hair. Which is of the good for him, but noticeable.
Kate, badge, gun. Serious cop lady. Now matching the darker color wardrobe. She wouldnt be serious in the frilly stuff.
I vaguely liked Kate, but only vaguely. She spent a lot of time being whiny, willfully blind or borderline insane.
"Where's your licence?"
"Thats the less part."
Is it hard to get a licence? Aside from the whole lack of legal identity thing. Because it gets hard to exist when people stop believing your date of birth.
The "impotent sicko" conversation is fun because he could so easily be that. I mean Angelus did the stalker thing, Angel has all this darkness, and the early episodes really play on that. Like they have him play hero while at the same time emphasising how much he has in common with the creeps.
Whee! Out the window. That move is so smooth. Pity he's smooth around her but let the bad thing escape.
Bad thing just calmly sitting on the ledge is actually nicely creepy.
Cordy's flat, still nasty. Cordy and Doyle in same clothes, been working, brought books. Angel didnt go back to change neither.
Doyle's refreshing/disgusting comments, funny.
"You promise you'll stay good?" And he doesnt promise. dark dark dark.
"Is it my fault that maid service was interrupted?"
Princess indeed. Easy to mock Cordy early on cause she is just so very out of her element.
"Cause thats what lonely people do."
Angel reacting all puppy eyes, Doyle and Cordy reacting seperately but in shot together. Hint hint.
I like this music. The Casefiles book lists the tracks but doesnt say which are when.
So we've got demon guy hunting for a connection and cop lady hunting for...
(also from watching Highlander I see musical interlude, I see 'episode came up seriously short, what do we do now?' Which may be unfair, because we get a bit of information here, but.)
The demon changing bodies thing is all creepy with the unwelcome sex vibe. Nasty.
Cordy and Doyle sleeping together
Sweet. Cordy all leaning on Doyle.
And Angel stays out as late as possible. Its definitely getting light before he comes in. Pushing his limits for the mission.
Doyle coatless. All vulnerable asleep. Drop the armour with Cordy. But awkwardly pulls it back on as we watch now Angel is here.
Kate in office. Different shirt? Or is that a jacket? Greyer.
Different again in the bar. Got changed in between. pretty much black over white now, with hints of grey.
Random guy watch her walk away. Short term misdirect so we dont suspect the other guy? Wham, bar guy the bad guy now. And yet he got greyer. Surprise then.
See that would be the reason for the new coat and shirt, easy to move and tear, compared to what she was wearing in the office. Well, the in character reason would be more that she expects to be doing some running so dressed to move.
Creepy snakey unsublte.
Cool stunt stuff with the legs grabbing.
Snakey demon between his legs now?
*I must not go for the cheap jokes... cause everyone already gets them*
Snakey demon was multiracial. Bunch of white peoples, asian lady, black guy now falling apart at the seams. Equal opportunity demon. Also bisexual. Sort of. Always heterosexual liasons, but the demon itself is interested in both men and women. I dont think theres actual politics intended there but it can surely be read. Voracious bisexual snakey demon.
I'm giggling at the guy's progressive decay. I'm a teensy bit twisted huh?
Angel risking the fire to get the job done. Hero. Also handily leaves little supernatural evidence.
Kate to the rescue! Blonde girl hero, wow, I'm shocked.
I like it that Kate tells the truth. Not holding on to an old theory, willing to start fresh.
Angel does his vanish into the night thing but now its his show we see him do it.
And go from flashing police light to shiny LA from the air. Light just isnt a good thing on this show. But neithers dark. So thats a whole lack of good thing all over.
Angel's clumsy attempts to be social with Cordy and Doyle. So sweet. Daft Angel.
Angel black, Cordy grey, Doyle... looks like an accident with a paint bucket.
"Or you could sit in the dark alone."
"God yes."
so it ends almost as it begins, but now Angel is smiling.
I think theres a lot less to pull apart and dig into in this ep than in any random season 5 ep. Sometimes colors have no meaning even. But, this is what I noticed.
