Sunset and shiny sky view
outside view of AI offices
then Angel in his office, feet up (but no boots on the desk, just his legs)
grey trousers, black short boots, black jumper with the sleeves pulled up. He is frequently fuzzy this season so far.
Got a view of the window to the outer office, with that double red lamp I noticed last week (lit), and the two winged things clearly visible.
Angel is reading. At his desk in his office. Sort of comfy but ready to work. Slouched down in the leather chair so it comes up to his shoulders.
Doyle, pacing and looking at his watch.
grumping and arms crossed
asking Angel out to a Sports Bar. thats right up there with taking Giles to see Monster Trucks. Really not matching.
Doyle wearing brown trousers, white under shirt, short sleeved button up shirt with a squiggly white pattern on dark brown. Not egregiously ugly but not stylish at all. also watch and ring as usual, plus neck chain. but no jacket in the office. Relaxing some.
"You know they have Trivia games on the Internet now? You can challenge against drunks around the world!"
This be where Doyle gets his computer skills?
and he's asking Angel to join him in this fascinating pursuit. heh. not worky.
Doyle all upset cause Cordy has a date. But not going on at Cordy, trying to find a distraction.
Cordy in little strapless black dress, wiggling her shoulders as she talks, hair all done up pretty. When she comes in Angel stands up. why? chivalrous habit? impact of the pretty? goes to stand practically shoulder to shoulder with Doyle.
Date comes in. Black and blue suit! evil!1!
Introducing them. Compare to later Doyle introduction.
Cordy trying to get him out of there quick as possible, Angel with the questions and the protective attitude. Doyle with the comments like he knows the restaurant.
Angel and Doyle both believing Cordy that its all about the money. But Doyle bringing his issues into it, sure that half demon him would be rejected.
Doyle is sitting on the couch, Angel hangs around to talk to him, getting comfortable by leaning on the rail, instead of going to shut himself in the office and brood. Which for Angel practically counts as reaching out.
Plays with book, picture falls out. Have a clear enough picture of the page to identify the book- Nicholas Nickleby by Charles Dickens, chapter 33 (google rules), which seems a very high number to be about two pages into a book. Don't think I've read it. Pasted summary from a website I just closed:
Nicholas Nickleby is one of Dickens’ earliest works, is in the episodic and melodramatic style familiar from The Pickwick Papers, and was published serially 1838-9. It is the story of the Nicklebys (Nicholas, his mother and sister Kate) who have been left penniless by the death of Mr Nickleby. In their poverty and desperation they seek help from Nicholas’s uncle - the difficult and oppressive Ralph Nickleby who is a usurer. Nicholas immediately bothers his uncle due to his independent attitudes and is sent to Dotheboys Hall to teach. He witnesses the mistreatment of orphans there by Wackford Squeers. Disgusted by this and particularly the treatment of Smike, Nicholas thrashes the evil Squeers and escapes with the lad Smike who becomes his close comrade. Nicholas continues on his mission to end ill-treatment. He saves Kate from Sir Mulberry Hawk’s insults and makes a home for the family. Ralph gets his comeuppance eventually despite his continued evil and although Smike dies of consumption, there is a general sense of justice at the novel’s close.
So Angel keeps a picture of Buffy in this book.
Angel *owns* a picture of Buffy. A black and white postcard picture, posed and looking at the camera. Which is an odd thing to have.
Doyle doesn't immediately recognise Buffy. But Doyle learned about Angel from *visions*, ie saw it all, didnt he? So how come he didnt see her?
the boom, vision time. Not every ep has a vision, and not every ep has the whole plot about the vision, so Cordy's nagging him to have a vision so they have a job turns out to not be quite the way it works.
loud vision this time, screaming. made me jump. must suck to get them.
slight continuity error- change camera angle, change hands pressed to face.
Angel with a hand to help Doyle up and make sure he is steady before he stalks off. Taking care of him.
"Everybody's got dinner plans but us."
and this is the part that bugs him, not imminent danger...
after the credits, the date, not the rescue.
Cordelia has her listening face on. really listening. not yawning or in any way bored
Pierce (and what kind of name is that for a date? freud much?):"I'm not boring you, am I?"
Cordy: "I don't mind."
even I, the socially challenged, know that means 'yes, a lot'. But I usually wouldnt remember to ask, so hey, points for effort.
"Can you imagine anything more exciting then that?"
cut to big fight with punk vampires and martial arts and loud music and people in chains.
Doyle snaps to demon face "Man I hate that"
man, as in human
hate that, as in demon
got his brown leather jacket on again. armour + hiding
Angel in the corridor talks to Doyle like the damsel (who is a guy this time, but random victim with no lines=dansel) isnt even there. Yeah, he's learning to connect with people. Also refers to Doyle's demon half even though when he changed Doyle kept his face turned away. Not my style? Not wanting to be it counts as a style?
oooh, spooky stalker vamp! Who of course has some reason not to jump Doyle as soon as Angel is out of the way. Well, because find out where they both live. And then lookit, shiny victims!
'not feeling well' Cordelia. "My car is here" she has a car? or double lie?
Why *would* she head back to the office after her date, if she had told them she might not be back at all? Talk to friends?
Rich guy doesnt like the neighbourhood. Well it isnt all shiny rich but the AI building is pretty. but Vampire says its crappy.
Pierce doesnt, just runs away. which is a pretty reasonable reaction but also cowardly. so we now think he's a creep as well as boring.
Cordelia screaming. Always has been her main survival skill. And biting the vampire, which we've also seen her do before. Prophecy girl? Siege in the library.
Doyle to the rescue! Being cool, and shooting straight. Excellent. Then not running, big struggle, not going demon even though it would really help right then. Elbows the guy in the face then stakes him with the crossbow bolt. coolness.
Cordy with a frown: "I'm fine. That was.. You're so - brave."
Doyle: "You think you could say that again without so much shock in your voice? You're stepping on my moment of manliness here."
lol
but Cordy's "I'm sorry" is the most sincere thing she's said all episode.
the way she's looking at Doyle, definite reassessment going on.
New day, Cordy in red and black, Angel in grey (and fuzzy, again). Camera slowly moves in on them. Cordy sitting with her back to Angel telling him about the night before, then turns around to take a chair in front of him so she can see him to say the 'brave and interesting' and 'your fault' bit.
Angel who says maybe C is changing, C not liking the idea.
"some badly dressed superhero"
nope, just a hero. (I try not to think about how it ends for him but the arc just goes straight there, consistently builds in that direction, so is hard to not think about it).
Angel starts out reading some bit of paper, then puts it down to really listen with sympathy face and actually paying attention. Doing the friends thing for real. yaay.
Angel actually smiling when Cordelia starts talking in the soft happy voice about Doyle. An actual happy smile.
"there is definitely more to Doyle then meets the eye."
tells her but doesnt tell her, still keeping quiet cause Doyle asked. Which suggests he is closer to Doyle than Cordy? Or just believes in secrets?
he gets concern face when she says 'kill herself' but then goes back to his bits of paper when she turns out to just be being Cordy.
And then C makes up her mind and stops even vaguely listening. and tells him to watch the phones. er, Cordy, he's the boss, you're the employee... she really hasnt grasped this yet.
Angel gets puzzled face. C does that to him a lot.
And Doyle with his moment of extreme dorkiness. I mean yeah, who wouldnt. I've stood around posing with a lightsaber without the excuse of prior heroics. But it is undeniably dorky.
In the bonus points column, he isnt pointing the crossbow. People that point weapons when they dont mean to use them are idiots. Pointing a ruler might look sillier but it is vastly more sensible.
today wearing something grey and red that looks like it maybe used to be black and red and faded, and a blue and grey stripy shirt with the sleeves rolled up. not ugly. But in this ep he seems to have more of a beer belly than I've previously noticed. In the white earlier as well as now. Usually he looks prettier.
And finding Cordy was watching. there is no elegant way out of that.
"maybe I haven't been - entirely fair to you"
Cordelia admitting fault! wow is she growing up
and so clumsy with this compared to her usual flowing insults. new conversational territory- making nice sincerely for no financial gain.
