Sound the trumpets! Pop the champagne corks! Fire off the fireworks!! Welcome to the tenth and final week of the 2006 Sizzlin’ Episode Festival!!
Here’s the place to discuss the number one most requested Angel episode, Are You Now, Or Have You Ever Been?!
The Hyperion Hotel. It appears to be abandoned.
I've got nothing here to steal.
Wesley: We know that Angel had a personal connection to this place. Cordelia: So, why didn't he just tell us? Wesley: Perhaps he was ashamed to.
This wasn't a suicide. . . . It's too perfect. . . . Locked door mystery. I've written it a hundred times.
It wasn't me! It wasn't me! (She sees Angel) It was him! Look in his room! Go ahead, look! He's got blood! He's a monster!
Thesulac Demon: There's an entire hotel here just full of tortured souls who could really use your help. What do you say? Angel: Take them all.
JudyAm I safe? Can I go out now? Angel: You’re safe. Let me help you. Judy: I’m so sorry I killed you.
Read Erin’s most excellent analysis of Are You Now . . ., here. And read or leave comment about her analysis here. Want to brush up on the ep, but don’t have time to watch? Go read up on it at the Buffyverse Dialogue Database. Are You Now, Or Have You Ever Been?

The first time I watched this episode, I hated it. It made me so sad.
Now it's one of my favorites. Of course, I get a new favorite everytime I rewatch. What's up with that?
I liked how Angel moving into the Hyperion paralleled his eventual move into the Wolfram and Hart complex.
CORDELIA: 70 years of violence, mayhem and paranoia: bad vibes. ANGEL: We're moving in.
CORDELIA: I mean, a few throw pillows what's not to love?
WESLEY: Angel, surely you more than anyone must appreciate, how for the better part of the last century this place has been host not only to a malevolent demonic presence, but the very worst faces of humanity! This is a house of evil.
ANGEL: Not anymore.

Oh, excellent comparison! And so Angel sort of fools himself into thinking that taking over W&H will be like moving into the Hyperion.
