It’s the 5th week of the 2007 Sizzlin’ Episode Festival, and what a difference a week makes!
Our sixth most chosen Angel episode is
Soul Purpose I don't feel right. I can't seem to find anything wrong with you. I mean... ...except that you're empty. There's nothing left. Just a shell. Spike, you single-handedly ended Armageddon and turned the world into a beautiful, happily-ever-after, candy mountain place where all our dreams come true. And the compass needle keeps spinning. And the world gets murkier and murkier. Everything hurts, and then we die. Or in your case, everything hurts and... then you go on... So things aren't going your way, and you're looking for someone outside your little circle to blame. Here's a thought. Maybe you should try looking inward... unless you don't like what you see. Need a refresher on this ep and don’t have a handy tape or DVD? Here are some resources! Transcript for Soul Purpose Dialogue from Soul Purpose
And don’t forget the wonderful articles here at the Soulful Spike Society!
Nan’s analysis of Soul Purpose lives here; go here for the discussion thread. And Makd’s analysis of Soul Purpose lives here; with the discussion thread here. Celebrate the Joss-ness! Here’s the place to post your thoughts and feelings, babbles and squees, smiles and tears. Go nuts!
You're taking Buffy to the prom?

Angel's dream where it's his turn to sing but nothing comes out echoes Willow's nightmare in Nightmares. I don't know if that's significant or not.
The Buffy voiceover lines from The Prom are kind of cool, but they seem really awkward.

So, after we've seen Spike's insecurities vis a vis Angel in earlieri Season 5 episodes, we have insecure Angel's fears that Marathon Man Spike ("marathon men go the distance" afterall) is Buffy's long haul guy that Xander talks about in "Into the Woods".
I love it!!
The dream symbolism in "Soul Purpose" could have us discussing the meaning of Angel's dreams from now until we grow old. Definitely one of my favorite AtS episodes.
