I should make up my own words, but Rob has already said it best (as he often does). A million thanks for all you do for us--and for representing us so well to the world at large. Sue Vlad, Eetah. Linda, who doesn't post or lurk on any other message board -- none compare.

I just stumbled into this at Slayage.com. What a thrill!!!
The only bit I winced at was when Vlad said there was a lack of intelligent, pro-Spike sites for us to graft ourselves to. I can see people from other good boards asking themselves if they are chopped-liver, because there are some other good ones out there. I'd always thought that our intention upon learning of ScoopMe's closure had always been to strike out on our own.
But my heart just swelled with pride that we had such pride of place in this article. Vlad is amazing. The talent, intelligence and wit of this board are amazing.
Has Vlad posted anything about how this interview came about?
Off to read the unabridged version that he posted now.

Although I'll never be comfortable with this particular exclamation, in this case I've got to make an exception. Vlad, as James would say, You Rock!
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I'd be very intrested to know how the interview came about.

Good heads up, also, because I can imagine some folks might take that "nowhere to graft ourselves" the wrong way. But quotes in articles are always taken out of context, and misunderstandings occur. I hope Vlad doesn't have to listen to any flak on it, but if he does, he can easily clear it up, I'm guessing. There really wasn't anything that fit us at the time - we were looking for somewhere to continue posting as a group, the way we had with ScoopMe, and you couldn't do that at . . . well, any Spike-site I can think of . . . there were intelligent sites and silly sites, and intelligent boards and silly boards, but none that had both intelligent, varied site offerings AND a posting board. At least none I can think of. And most of the general BtVS sites besides our niche at ScoopMe had all that sniping-at-Spike going on constantly. Anyhow, I hope no one takes offense; if they knew the whole story they certainly shouldn't take offense.

Anyhow, I hope no one takes offense; if they knew the whole story they certainly shouldn't take offense. I just don't recall us ever considering the possibilty of joining an extant, established board. My memory is of Vlad and a number of others searching out (and testing when possible) a number of free and fee based posting boards available for start up on the web, where we could open and establish our new home. Maybe we did but I just have no memory of it. We were an established community evicted from ScoopMe that needed to find a new home. We weren't, so far as I recall, looking to get absorbed into another established community. If we had, we'd no longer have been the S3, right? Every online group; the good, bad, and the in between has it's own distinct character and style. Just sayin', the S3 is home to us, and there's no place like home. But there's other good boards out there that other good people call home. I've visited some of them (where I am collectively known as "Scubiedeb"), especially since I've been on hiatus from active, daily posting here because I can't spend the time required to keep up with ongoing discussions. I pop onto other boards to check out specific threads; e.g., concerning JM/GOTR/Conventions. (I never bother to read threads about the episodes or the shows because hey, I get that at home.) I'd just hate for anyone who belongs to other boards where members have worked hard to build their own communities where they feel at home and that they feel justly proud of to take umbrage at a remark which was never intended to offend. deborah

I agree that we didn't look for a place to blend in - to be assimilated, so to speak. My memory is that we had no place to set up similarly to how we did at ScoopMe, so the "how to set it up ourselves" search began . . . well . . . to tell you the truth, my memory is all pretty cloudy on that. And I do agree there are other good boards out there; I rarely post elsewhere, but I pop in to look elsewhere now and then. Still, I think we are fairly unique as a Spike-site, in having an active, frequently updated website, with fanfic, analysis, reviews, essays, etc, AND a good, active posting board. S'cubiedeb, huh? I know you are a good embassador.

I know you are a good embassador. I dunno about that. I don't volunteer any explanations of my name and I've only been asked about it once - and that was in an Email IIR. So I'm thinkin' most folks must just think I wanted a name that imitated "Scooby" and don't realize the *clever* meaning behind it. debo'
