My son brought home the video game for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and immediately lost it to his friend, a girl who doesn't usually play video games. I get to watch her play it and it has a lot of fun creatures (and of course vampires) for her to slay. The vampires turn to dust and Buffy gets added power/life. In this video game Spike starts out fighting Buffy, but later, just as in the series, he starts helping her. Very occasionally, Willow, Xander, or Giles appears but not often.

Alexandra wrote: "I was watching the "Halloween" episode on FX recently and was rivetted (no, not the right word... okay, yes it was) by the last fight scene where Buffy changes back from 'wimpy 1775 aristocratic lady in red gown' to our kickass Buffy as Spike is throttling her. She turns the tables, and throws Spike up onto a horizontal grate-looking table where he is kinda spreadeagled for a second or two. Voila la bulge. Dresses left."
"James Marsters, when asked in an interview, said that he doesn't bother with underwear. I always wondered why anyone would think to ask that question. Now I have a glimmer why."
Hmmm... all this talk of bulges and such has inspired me to erect a new term:
"Ebulgent": (1) The warm, tingly, rush felt by Spikeaholics and serious James Marsters fans upon seeing (or perceiving to see) a bulge beneath the opening of the BTVS character Spike's trousers. Often is accompanied by rapid breathing, increased heartrate, and a pronounced glowing blush on the cheeks. (2) What Spikeaholics & serious JM fans like to see his pants have.

Was it Deborah who asked was the Season Three CD worth the getting? I have trouble remembering who posted what. Anyway, Season Three of Buffy is my personal favorite, neck and neck with Season Six. Season three is the year of the Mayor (my favorite villain, not counting Spike) and the year of Faith going bad and trying, resentfully, to take Buffy with her. There is the occasional silly episode, of course, but the arc is splendid. It still has Oz; it has Vamp Willow (Doppelgangland); it has the return of Angel from a subjective century in a hell demension, followed by Amends; it has supercilious and utterly speaking her mind Cordy; and intermittently, it has Spike in full Big Bad mode, pre-chip, musing on the intimate relationship between love and torture. It has the first and so far only mass attack on vamps by the ordinary citizenry/students of Sunnydale, which I positively love.
It's the last of the true high-school seasons and the most fully worked out, dramatically, of the 2 1/2 seasons (counting Season 1 as 1/2 because of the fewness of its episodes). So although I haven't yet been able to invest in Season Three, it's a rare treat, especially if you've never seen it.
So I would recommend that any Buffy fan do what I'm doing, saving the pennies, and picking up the CD ASAP. BTW, I notice it was at the top of the CD best-seller list this week

Found that by the time I'd finished writing this and posting it, I'd been left behind on Part 3 so I did a cut & paste to Part 4 so folks wouldn't miss it:
#153 Re: Spike's hair Posted on 1/10/2003 5:48:02 PM By deborah cohen
For the sake of *authenticity* I too would have liked to have seen somewhat grown out hair with dark roots when Buffy rescued Spike. But I'm not sure how much time has supposed have passed since he was taken prisoner. Anyone know or have a good idea about that?
Another petty hair complaint I've had from time to time is the inconsistency with *bedhead* hair. For example, back in "Intervention" there's a scene with Spike and the Buffybot laying on the floor and talking during a breather in their love making. Spike's hair is delightfully tousseled. Then later that same night he's shown in *bed* asleep with not a hair out of place while the 'bot goes out to slay ("Time to slay"). In "Sleeper" as well, when Anya sneeks into his room while he's sleeping to hunt for clues, again, hair lacquered down, not a strand out of place.
To me, that just shows someone is asleep on the job. Kinda sloppy. 'Cause it's such a minor detail but paying attention to that kind of thing really goes a long way in maintaining authenticity.
And while I'm on the subject of attention to detail, Since I got Season Two and watched "School Hard" a number of times before I lost the picture (see previous post) I have noticed a minor yet glaring continuity error. In the scene at the Bronze when Spike goes to observe the Slayer for the first time in preparation for his anticipated killing of her, Buffy et al's table is cluttered with school books. After Buffy, Willow & Xander run out to the alley (to rescue the girl attacked by a vamp per Spike's instructions so he could observe the Slayer in action), Xander runs back into the Bronze to find a stake for her. Their table is now absolutely empty except for Buffy's purse.
BtVS is by no means unique in having such continuity errors and lapses in attention to detail. Most television programs and movies are only viewed once and so these errors will usually pass unnoticed. It's only when subjected to multiple viewings do the minute details become so prominent and such errors glaringly apparent.
I wonder if any program has ever been produced so carefully as to render it *fan proof* against spotting such inconsistencies and errors. Somehow, I doubt it.

Yes Nan, it was me who asked. Thanks for replying.
Okay, I guess I'd better put it on my list. But from what I can glean from the the season reviews and shooting scripts on the web, the one and only Spike episode is "Lovers Walk". Makes me think the season might be hard to get through with such a brief and fleeting glimpse of our favorite character.

"It also has this nifty little feature where you type in actor's names and it records whatever they are listed as appearing in. Guess whose name I typed in right away? I'm hoping to see the Northern Exposure he was on, or maybe be alerted if the movie he made with Amber Benson makes it to Sundance or IFC."
Well, I never thought I'd be tempted to spend the extra money on Tivo but the thought of being sure not to miss a James Marsters appearence certainly does... I've only seen him as Spike and the extras on the Season Two DVD, (and I don't think I've found all of them yet) and I would love to see him play someone else and see if the obsession carries over...

So, I presume we are all feeling fairly safe in presuming Buffy is taking Spike home with her. Has anyone else but me speculated where he's gonna sleep? Certainly Buffy won't leave him fighting over a share of floor space with "the next generation". Xander's already got the couch.
Personally, I can't imagine him anywhere other than the place of honor; Buffy's own room. Just as she brought him to her room for restraint and interegation during "Never Leave Me". I'm imagining her leading him upstairs and running a nice, hot bath for him. Healing bath salts would be nice. And he'll be needing a nice, warm mug of blood, poor dear must be fairly starving.
Of course, Buffy must be pretty sore, exausted and hungry by now herself. She needs a good soak in a hot tub, a meal and a restorative sleep as well.
Now, I'm really not letting my imagination run away with me here. I'm not imagining any "relations" between them at this point. That would ring false and spoil the tone of their tender and newfound mutual respect and affection. But given that mutual respect and affection, the horrible ordeal Spike has gone through, the intimate history these two share, and the crowded state of the house, I think it would be totally natural for Buffy to share her own room with him - yes, including the bed. They're both adults and I am sure she would trust him not to make inappropriate advances to her. And they've got no secrets from one another, no modesty to overcome. It would be the natural and mature thing to do...
Of course, it's more than likely that the next episode will not pick up at the point of Buffy & Spike's arrival but rather at some later time. Then this delicate, domestic point will have been conveniently bypassed by ME.
Still, maybe ME will throw us a crumb and let us see a weary and bruised Buffy and Spike trudging through the house, up the stairs to Buffy's room, and just falling onto her bed, fully clothed, (or semi fully in the case of shirtless Spike), and almost instantly falling asleep. Maybe Willow can follow them up and pull of their shoes and gently pull a cover up over them.
That's not too much to ask, is it?

Ah, or perhaps it is not an inconsistancy but another vampire superpower. Super strength, super hearing, and super hair that combs itself. : )

"So, I presume we are all feeling fairly safe in presuming Buffy is taking Spike home with her. Has anyone else but me speculated where he's gonna sleep?"
oh no, you're not alone... before I went to sleep last night I imagined some scenarios... (my god, I need help!)
I do think that right now it makes the most sense that she would take him up to her bedroom and even let him sleep in her bed, since she wouldn't want him to have to recover on the floor ... But I'm not sure that she would sleep there too. I mean, she might sleep on the floor herself, like Willow is doing with Kennedy (and incidently, did anyone besides me feel it was kind of rude of Kennedy not to offer to take the floor herself rather than just try to get Willow to get into bed with her...).
But I do feel that there are so many ways that Spike in the house with all the slayerettes, the scoobies, Andrew, and Buffy will be really interesting to see... I hope the possibilities don't go the way that the Spike/Xander roomie possibilities went.

Oops, was responding to a post on another topic, the "Anyone Have A Clue Where They're Going With Andrew" and I started thinking about Spike and forgot I wasn't here and got a bit carried away. I hope poor Robert Sorenson, who started the Topic, doesn't get too cross with me.
So anyway, I'm doing another cut and paste because it really belongs over here, where it's safe:
Re: Andrew and Dawn? Also Some Spike Posted on 1/10/2003 7:42:58 PM By deborah cohen
I got the same nagging suspicion. [Referring to previous poster's speculation that ME is setting up Dawn and Andrew for a future relationship]Someone over on Episodes mentioned this already, I think, that usually when they show two characters bickering they're destined for romance.
Not sure how I feel about that. Anyway, we've had plenty of hints that his attractions lean in the other direction. Considering his recent Spike wannabe look, I wonder how he'll react to Spike's presence in the house. It would really be a hoot if we saw him get all flustered and blushy and weak at the knees. I can see ME writing that in as their little joke (on us) while not compromising Andrew's character. It would be interesting to see them address the *hotness of Spike* openly. As far as I know, the only time any of the characters have ever referred to his looks is when Buffy is describing him to the door guy at the club when she's trying to track him down in "Never Leave Me". The characters have applied plenty of adjectives to him over the years, mostly pejorative, but never, or only rarely, openly acknowedged his hot appearance. Buffy's looks have been referred to by a number of characters, as have Cordy's and Willow and Anya of course. It makes sense that the characters have noticed his looks and formed opinions about them, but all we usually heard about is his evil, obsessive ways. I guess we got a taste of Spike worship by a character in Crush but that was a long time ago. I am looking forward to watching Andrew following Spike around with his tongue hanging out. Tee Hee.

I love the thoughts you've all had about warm baths and shared rooms & beds. I do not think it would be possible for Spike & Buffy to share a bed platonically . . . I know they are both sore, but since when has that stopped them?
And I hate to say this . . . but don't you think he might get chained in the basement again? I mean, no one, including Spike, knows whether or not the First's ability to "trigger" him still exists.
I hope he gets to rest his hot, tight little body in Buffy's bed at least his first night, but I'm thinking he would want to be restrained when his strength returned, for fear of killing more people.
Miss Pamela, thanks for the new vocabulary word. I look forward to many more moments of ebulgency this season.

Just to be fair I think it was Spring and her purely academic interest in Noferophysiology that started our research. Ebulgence. Excellent word! You get the chair in Linguistics at the Von Helsing Institute for the Study of Nosferology.
As faculty we take sort of a "Vampires in the Mist" approach to field study. We try to observe our subject as closly as possible thru the use of the zoom feature on our DVDs and VCRs, trade field notes and speculation, and then let everything deteriorate into innuendo and snickering. Be careful, we're the bad friends your mother warned you about. We aren't allowed to play with the nice kids so we started a gang of our own. Out Motto is "Va Place Mi Permanento Recorderum" or "Go Ahead And Put It On My Permanent Record".

I'll keep you posted if I find anything he's in. I don't think he has a lot to look for other than a few guest appearances. I'm really surprised he doesn't have more movies under his belt, but I heard he is pretty devoted to his band.
I never would have bought Tivo for myself, but my very sweet brother(who has no children to take up his disposable income) bought it for me for Christmas. I think he got tired of having to tape Buffy for me so I wouldn't have to keep turning it off when my daughter is in the room. It really is a fun little device and since I'm home alot in the evenings, its keeping me entertained, along with this board.

No kidding. I went ahead to next Tuesday at 8 p in the online TV Guide and UPN is showing something called "Funky Flubs." So the next ep of Buffy is Tuesday the 21st, and I found it there. For those who prefer to remain spoiler-free, I won't tell the title or what it's about, but it's there.
