Madame Prez:
So our mission statement is: "To do whatever's necessary to rise to the occasion, no matter how hard things get."?
I like it. It is especially applicable to the Ebulgeometrics Dept, and I will do my best to live up (down and all around) to it.
Lordy. We've got over a week before the next episode. Is that "UPN Flubs" thing on this Tues going to include any Buffy flubs? I caught part of a promo for it, but saw no BtVS clips.
Thanks for the good laughs, one and all!

According to various web places, the next Buffy episode is January 21, 2003.
TV Guide lists Funky Flubs (in place of Buffy next Tuesday, Jan.14) as including, "Funny miscues from 'The Parkers,' 'One on One,' 'Girlfriends ' 'Half and Half,' 'Enterprise,' 'The Twilight Zone,' and 'Abby'". No Buffy. I would love to see bloopers (i.e., miscues) from Buffy. Maybe if the series ever ends, they will put the best ones on one of the DVDs for a season. Is there any place we could put that suggestion so Joss Whedon would pick up the request?
And I'm assuming there is no access to owning a copy of the September issue of SFX Magazine?

I like the way you do things: by fiat. I haven't practiced my glasses-polishing nearly enough to have aspired to such eminence.
Somehow I don't think we'll lack for a way of keeping ourselves entertained for a week. The puns alone....
As the official laundress, I exhort everyone: keep it CLEAN! Unless, of course, you don't wear any.

While we're waiting for the next episode, I'd like to hear your choice for your favorite Spike scene. And why.
My favorite is a weird one. I like Spike talking to Buffy at the counter at the Doublemeat Palace (didn't say I liked the episode). He got serious about how her job was going to crush her joy in life and make her unhappy. None of the Scoobies who had previously visited her saw the negative effect that job would have on her self-esteem or happiness. Spike's perceptiveness with Buffy has most always been accurate (except for the basement analysis in "Never Leave Me".)
Although Spike never had much money himself, he said he'd give her money if that was what she needed. I've never heard any other Scooby say that (Giles did give her some money once.) And my speculation is the demon eggs he got caught with were to help Buffy with money.
P.S. The scene with Spike and Buffy in the alley behind the Doublemeat Palace was way too short.

Thank you for submitting that piece of research. *Ummm, no* is obviously my favorite answer.
I've also always wondered why his girlfriends break up with him. It always seems to be their decision, and he seems genuinely sad when it happens. What's the fatal flaw?

My opinion - gathered from interviews and totally unsupported by fact:
He works long hours on Buffy. He's a night owl, he spends a lot of off hour time practicing guitar and practicing with his band, he goes out of town on band gigs, he goes to several conventions each year, he probably tries for theater parts or movie parts on off-season time, he likes to play Playstation 2 (that alone would do it for many females due to the sheer amount of time focused on the video games), and he's probably recognized when he goes out thus disturbing any dates in public. Based on things he has said in interviews, he's interested in doing the things that he likes to do which likely translates to spending less time on things that a girlfriend wants to do. He's happy with his life as it is, isn't looking for a wife, and maybe has a bit of a crush on Sarah Michelle Gellar.
I think he really likes women and enjoys their company and their interest in him but aside from the attention, that's not what makes him tick. He didn't fit in when he was young, something severe enough happened at Juilliard for him to leave; from that it sounds like he took awhile to find himself. Now he HAS found himself and is fairly happy. He is serious about his music and his acting. Everything and everyone else is frosting.
Signed,
Sykoanalasus is Us
P.S. There is mention he has a son named Sullivan. No other information is available. Keep in mind some people have also reported that he is British.

Thanks, Alexandra!
And don't give up hope yet on a Sept. 2002 issue of SFX magazine - I'm still checking into it.

Yes, I think you are on to something there, Alexandra, on the fatal flaw. I mean, it sounds like he likes women who are "for real" - he says things about intelligence, strength, etc. And it sounds like seeks out relationships where he can feel he is in love and things are exclusive. But at the same time, he likes a lot of freedom and may have a serious case of commitmentophobia. This can definitely be a recipe for repeated disaster.
I certainly get the strong impression he has at least one child, simply due to the fact that he won't talk about it. I can only imagine one reason why he wouldn't want to talk about it - to protect his privacy and the child without hurting the kid with some kind of false denial. I mean, I would hate to pick up People magazine, and read that my Dad says he has no children - but I would also hate to be subjected to invasive publicity being the child of someone with a lot of nutty fans (present company excluded, of course!!).

Gosh, I can't pick just one scene. I am going to have to go by Season:
Season 2: Spike & Buffy walk back to her place and run into Joyce. They lie about being in a band, then do some coordinated tag-team slaying, and Buffy fesses up to being a Slayer. It is a funny scene, well acted by all involved, and really sets up the Spike/Buffy seamless connection.
Season 3: Spike & Joyce with the hot chocolate. These two are great in this scene. Just too cute.
Season 4: Spike & Willow in her dorm room. "Doesn't this happen to every vampire?" "Not to ME it doesn't!" Ha! JM & AH really impress me with perfect comic timing and great delivery. "This doesn't make you any less terrifying." "Don't patronize me." Too funny.
Season 5: Spike & Buffy in the alley in "Fool For Love", after he's told her the subway story. "Did I scare you? . . .Do something about it . . Give it to me good, Buffy". Whew. He scared ME, that's for sure - mesmerizing.
Season 6: "Every night I save you." Brilliant writing, beautiful acting.
Season 7 so far: The church scene with Buffy at the end of "Beneath You". I particularly like the end, and the delivery on the line "Buffy, shame on you . . "

Yes, all those. Plus..
When he recognizes that it's actually Buffy alive coming down the stairs. And when he's holding her bleeding hands in the living room and telling her how many days she's been gone."Except today doesn't count". That made me cry.
After the kitten poker game when she tells him he hasn't been helpful, and besides, *he's* drunk! That thing he does with his head as she stomps out the door is priceless.
Their interaction at the wedding was very sweet.
I also liked the image of him on the cemetary pillar holding the vampire up in the air for Buffy.
When Riley finds naked Buffy and Spike together in his crypt, and Spike really rubs it in by arrogantly presenting Riley with his whole magnificient nakedness. Riley quickly looks away.Classic.

Alexandra. I don't think anybody ever responded to this. These are just suggestions.
Maybe we should move to the top when we hit 5th place? If there's an active discussion going maybe the last couple of posts on that topic could also be moved, with a reference back to the number of the original post that started it going. I know that's more work and somebody might have a better idea. Also, if someone just started a topic before a move, a general invite to move it to the new thread could be included in the post that says "Hey we moved again."
