Rusty - Are you going to be touring to promote sales of your "Vampires Who Love Too Much" book? If so, let me know. I'd like to come along and promote my new video, "Vampires Gone Wild".

Summer, as I understand it James' son would be a teen as my sources indicate that he is the product of JM's marriage in his 20's to a fellow actress. I won't venture to say anymore, as it would be entirely speculation. But the past marriage, and subsequent divorce, I have heard from many separate sources and I believe it to be true. And with that, I am off to teach young minds the wonders of unit conversions. (And if I may add, this is the one class where my Canadian students say, "Those d**n Americans, why can't they learn to use the metric system like the rest of us!" Hehe, how many feet in a mile? I know there are 1000 metres in a kilometer...) We do torture those first year students so... Poor little lambs. Laughing all the way to class... M. Watergal =^..^=

Judith Goldberg just posted a great article on the stars board. Go check it out. And yes, I think we finally have a confirmation on JM's age. And boy, oh boy is he a romantic. (See the "garden" bit. It's enough to make most of us on this board melt, methinks.)

There is a great article about Spike and how he embodies both feminine and masculine characteristics . . . very interesting and well done. It's by someone called Arwen Spicer (University of Oregon), and entitled: "'Love’s Bitch but Man Enough to Admit It': Spike’s Hybridized Gender" Go to www.slayage.tv, and chose Archive #7. ALEXANDRA: I'm with you on the opinion that a guy liking cats is a plus. I think I read somewhere this cat had died recently. WATER GAL: Interesting info on the marriage/divorce. I really get the "learned everything the hard way (but learned it!!)" feeling from James, though I can't say why, exactly. You're teaching Unit Conversions? What does it take to convert some of the guys I know into a guys like James? Spring Summers

To me Xander has always been the one person who sees Spike unadorned. Xander has always seen Spike as a mass murderer who would kill any one of the Scoobies in a New York minute if he didn't have the chip problem. And the Xanman would be right (remember Spike going right for Willow in the dorm before he knew he had a chip. He was actually after Buffy.)
Xander keeps removing the blinders from the other Scoobies about Spike's nature. He is the only one who keeps a true perspective on how careful everyone should be, not going all mushy about any particular good thing Spike does. Xander brings balance to the mostly female ensemble who are always acting - well - female. Now that Spike has a soul and not just a chip, I think we will start seeing a rapprochement between the two. It will be slow, but it will come. We already saw a bit of change when Anya wanted Xander to second her on staking Spike. Xander just kept working on the window and didn't agree. If Xander can accept Anyanka's mass murders because she is now human, he should be able to work something out with Spike.
It would be nice to see the two come to a working relationship, not warm and fuzzy but something including acceptance and a tiny bit of jealousy over who gets more of Buffy's attention (not in a romantic way). A little 'sibling type' rivalry, I guess.
But with the FE and all the intercharacter baggage that has to be addressed before the end of the season, the writers have their work cut out for them.

Welcome to the new people who have contributed to this topic area. Very happy to have all comments, opinions, references to web sites, etc. We move every so often to stay toward the top of the Misc. Board. A notice will be given at the end of this segment/part when we move. Again welcome.
A bit of business:
I notice that we have already gone down to 6th place on the Miscellaneous Board. On my screen we would still be easily visible at 10th place. Does the group want to migrate now or wait until we hit 10th place? Is 10th place still easily visible on your screens?
Input please.

On that NYT article: on second reading, though, I don't know that he actually admits his age as much as the writer "outs" him.
That happens all the time - even in benevolent, favorable pieces like this one, they *still* gotta bring out a little "dirt" where they can, and of course age, weight, love interests, and salaries are the hottest topics.
As far as Xander & Spike, the best I would hope for is that they'd be "sniping" friends, like Spock & McCoy of "Star Trek" or the Odd Couple (Felix & Oscar). We've seen glimmers of that (like in the gas station where Xander helps Spike light his cig after the motor home escape attempt from Glory, just to name one).
Otherwise, I do not like Xander's over-the-top attitude toward Spike; his behavior in "Forever" with Spike & his flowers for Joyce was just tacky. Just so often he's hypocritical and far more cold & harsh than necessary.

Alexandra: I can see the top 6 topics on my 17" monitor, so I vote for moving up when we get to seventh position.
Spring Summers says: You're teaching Unit Conversions? What does it take to convert some of the guys I know into a guys like James?
Well, yes, of course. All you'll need is a cold fusion reactor, the Holy Grail, a Unicorn horn, Eye of newt, the Watcher's Compendium and a very large cauldron. It doesn't hurt to have a hotline to The Powers That Be either...
I've given up on Converting men from one form to another, they are what they are, and if we try to make them change, then noone is happy.
(And now my class is going from Conversions to Mass Balances... I wonder if you can perform a Mass balance around a transdimensional portal... hmmmm.... Methinks meworks too much.) ;-)

Diane said: Not bad for a creature that doesn't need to breathe.
Funny you should mention that. Earlier today I was watching Becoming II on DVD. There's a scene where Angel is sitting in a chair waiting for a tied up Giles to return to consciousness so he can resume torturing him. Angel is passing the time cleaning Giles' glasses, and quite clearly expells breath on the lenses prior to wiping them off.
But he had no breath to give Buffy mouth to mouth resisitation when she needed it, right?

Sorry if someone else has already mentioned this - I haven't finished catching up on all the posts yet. But I wanted to add that even before Xander refused to second Anya in advocating staking Spike, there was an encouraging moment that showed Xander's opinion about Spike may finally be softening. In the beginning of "Sleeper" when Buffy charges into Xander's apt at 4AM looking for Spike and Xander asked Buffy if Spike was IN trouble, rather then assuming Spike was up to no good and making some sarcastic, nasty remark to that effect. When I heard Xander ask Buffy if Spike was in trouble, my heart melted a little bit toward Xander. I thought, Finally, we're going to see Xander getting past all the predjudice and hostility that has coloured his judgement when it comes to Spike.
