Terrific finish to the story. Spike's adoration toward Buffy is clear and deeply moving. Superbly written.
I can't tell you how good it felt to read that final conversation on the beach. Spike's baring of his soul is expected. It seemed to me that you were building up to a release of some sort all the way through. What was so refreshing to me was Buffy's willingness to listen, and hang in there for him.
That's the Buffy I love so much. Thanks.

Rae - I've finished Part 10 and I need to know two things:
1) Where do I send it ? (It's about 70 pages in Word.)
2) Am I still the one assigned to do Part 11?

If there's one thing we know about Spike, it's that he's a serious serial monogomist. He ALWAYS has some woman in his life he's trying to come to terms with--typically, a VERY difficult one.
So I know there's been speculation on older women, etc., for AtS to balance out all the testosterone.... But if Spike is no longer pining for Buffy (as I think likely), he's all set to be hit between the eyes (or wherever) BLAM by somebody else who will knock him sidewise.
Because that's who he is, and that's what he does.
His love for Dru was genuine, and eventually over, although he pursued her beyond reason even after she'd repeatedly dumped him and still misses her from time to time, I'm certain.
His love for Buffy was likewise complete and sincere, and more complex. And he'll bang against that wall a few more times before he's done with it, I imagine.
But Spike is either about what's now or what's next. And WHAT ON EARTH is Joss gonna concoct to be Spike's new ultimate passion, if he's already "been there, done that, got the t-shirt and the tan" with the Slayer?
A Vulcan? Miss Electricity? It's gonna have to be somebody AWESOME (or else a mean-nothing throwaway like Harmony) to get Spike's full attention.
I'm beginning to look forward to that aspect a bit myself. Anybody else want to join me in a bit of an anticipatory drool over Spike goin' ga ga over a new gal?
I bet you one thing: it ain't Fred!

Thanks for the comments, Rob. Took me two tries to get there, but I'm glad if you felt the finale was satisfactory.

I just finished your story. I enjoyed it very much. You had all the elements of a true BtVS episode - laughter, warmth, "monsters" (in this case, human), and Spuffy moments added in for our delectation.
I'm beginning to wonder though if you really like Xander as much as you say you do, because he certainly had to go through agony.
One thing I thought was especially impressive was your Faith voice. I think that was the best of all - so completely true to the character. She has a unique way of speaking and you captured it beautifully.
I waited until it was finished to read it - you know me - can't handle the suspense. So I am patiently waiting for "Triangles" to be completed.
Thank you for the wonderful story.

"Doomed" has always been an episode that entertained me a lot. Oh, how I longed for the days when the entire ensemble had things to do. If there is an unavoidable criticism of Season 7, that's it.
How much better was the show when Spike was interacting with the entire Scooby Gang and not just Buffy? "Doomed" is a prime example of what the cast could do when they were allowed to fire on all cylinders--and it's not even an acknowledged BTVS classic.
It was just another middle of the road gem that contained some of the most entertaining moments of that (or any) season.
Spring makes mention of all the best scenes. In my personal opinion, Doomed is an episode that validates my reasoning that BTVS, at it's very best, was a balanced ensemble show.
When they deviated from that, it didn't work as well. Which is not to say that it still wasn't terrific: weak BTVS still outshines 98% of anything television has ever produced. I will always have positive things to say about every season, and every episode. There is a ton of good stuff in every hour that ever appeared on screen. That is an astonishing achievement.
True fans, though, criticize out of love. That is what I'm trying to do here

Thank goodness! My right hand shriveled up into a claw after I finished Part 10. It still hurts. Maybe I'm doing it wrong...
Bless you, Patti.

Nan, I'm way ahead of you in the anticipatory drooling. I for one would not mind Harmony dropping in, if we get a replay of that season 4 cat crawl across the bed. Whoo!

Doomed is on my list of personal favorites. It is full of wit and one of the most delightful scenes (when Willow and Xander take Spike along so he won't try to kill himself again) Patti T.
