I would like to see Spike slowly attracted to someone completely different from Buffy. What if he met a young woman who:
1) is a scientist (intellectual) at Wolfram and Hart who specializes in electronics, security devices. (Basically stuff that allows her to be involved with weekly episodes.)
2) is sent to work with Spike by Angel in various investigations - or - Spike trails around after her to find out what Angel is working on if Spike isn't part of W&H himself.
3) likes 19th century poetry and rags Spike while being supremely unimpressed with him (or so he thinks.)
4) attracts Spike with her intelligence and quick-thinking in tight spots.
One possible scenario.
This is hard to design because we don't know if Spike is coming back as a vampire or human or in some other manner. I definitely want him snarky though. Truth-saying and blunt as always, a bit forlorn at first (but NOT looney-had enough of that), but bouncing back as his effervescent self who annoys the hell out of Angel. Oh, and I don't want Drusilla to come back into play between them at all.

Yup, Nan said it better than I did. I have deep affection for the underdog, especially one as tenacious and criminally underappreciated as I consider Xander to be.
There is an almost unimaginable strength within Xander that he had to develop long before Buffy knew what a vampire was. This might get me in trouble, because it's so opinionated, but if Buffy or Willow lost an eye I'd be amazed if they were raring to go fight within a couple of weeks.
They'd dedicate half a season to their physical and emotional recovery. Xander made jokes about it the very next day. After a couple of weeks he fights through his fear and keeps on coming.
Pretty impressive stuff from a guy who's supposed to be useless.

Of course you're right, Spring.
However (and now I wish for Newboard's Giant Type)
WHO THE HELL CARES ABOUT ANGEL ANYWAY???
SHE DOESN'T LIKE OUR SPIKE!!!
I have no intention of being fair. Any female protagonist who can't appreciate Spike is definitely on my s***t list for life. And you know I'm not afraid to use the crudest word available--I just think it looks funnier that way.

I also love "Doomed" just for the variety of things going on and the whole cast being used. It's what I also like about "Pangs" and "Something Blue." I enjoy the lighthearted moments that Joss somehow makes co-exist in the same moment as a dramatic moment - for example, Spike trying to immolate himself on the stake in Xander's basement while wearing that Hawaiian shirt. Or Willow describing the murder at Porter Hall then indignantly bringing up Percy's opinion of her geekiness. Buffy immediately went off on Willow's tangent, appearing to give it more value than the murder also.
How does Giles ever manage to keep those Scoobies focused on anything?

//s***t list //
What sort of list is that? Can I find that word in the same dictionary with Soulfull?

Howdy, Nan. I must say, the other night I found your story Old Blood on the board while I was snooping around and I read the first three chapters, and I was pretty impressed by your writing. Especially your inner-dialogue of Spike and Dawn(F-words not withstanding). Frankly, I thought the way you wrote both characters was very believeable. I could actually imagine them having that conversation on the actual show--which would have been kick-ass and would have resolved that whole conflict. Also, I have read the actual novels by Christopher Golden and Nancy Holder, and I think your dialogue was better than most of theirs, and they are published! Anyway, just wanted to share that with you. I have to continue reading the rest this weekend. Poor Xander and Ch. 18! Can't wait!! BetsyB

What can I say? One too many asterisks. My excuse that it looked even funnier that way and prompted a good joke from David.

I'm sorry, Nan -- I just couldn't resist the timing of it so soon after you pointed out Vlad's one too many L's in Soulfull. Otherwise, I misspell way too many words to go correcting other people's grammar.

Thanks, Betsy. Re the f- word (am I doin' OK here, Chief David?), if it's something they could do on TV, it's no fun to do in a story. I want to write stuff they'd NEVER be able to film! Like the Never dream (you haven't gotten that far yet) would be impossible to render interesting on film. But it has a certain drama, played out from the inside....
Hope the story continues to hold up for you as you go on with it, and thanks for your feedback. I'm enjoying every comment I get. Counting the S3 website, the story is now posted on 4 websites that I know about.
Bow to the left, bow to the right.

I have no edit button here, so I lives with my mistakes, and everybody else has to, as well. Come Newboard full-time, I'll have a little more chance to make amends...and corrections.
No harm, no foul, David.

Oh yes, of course - Buffy is extremely foolish!
Well - she was wrong to get involved with him, but right to dump him when he was a mostly unremorseful murderer, and of course she couldn't get seriously involved with him when he was totally looney, and then she couldn't when he was being triggered . . . but after that really - what a dumb bunny! Here he is, sleeping IN HER HOUSE, and in love with her, and knows her through and through, like no one ever has . . . and she has all these strong feelings for him, including a physical attraction . . . why did she spend any nights upstairs at all?? I guess she had her upright reasons, but she's a better woman than I am, Gunga Nan.
I hope they did have a good shag that last night. I thought the way he stood up when she entered the room was pretty suggestive . . . I mean, if you walk into the bedroom, and your guy is lying on the bed, say, reading a book, and he immediately puts it down and stands up to gaze at you . . . hmmm. What happens next?
Oh well, it doesn't much matter, does it?

Apparently the women and vampires special isn't on any channels here in the Bay Area in California. Patti, if you think that the special is worth us poor unfortunates watching, can I discuss borrowing the tape? I'm not in any hurry and if you think it wasn't worth the viewing time, let me know.

Alexandra - I like your thoughts on this. I want Spike snarky too. But I want him to keep that new ability to be through-and-through sweet he got with his soul too.
I also want to see a love interest for him that is different from Buffy. He needs a "baked cookie" as I am thinking that experience in the Hellmouth baked him pretty thoroughly. So he needs someone equally confident, mature, sure of themselves.
ALSO - no Dru! I liked Dru well enough back in the old days, but with neither guy a soulless vampire - she'll be pretty much at sea.
And if Harmony comes back, that could be fun, but not as a love interest for Spike.

Well, geez! Why don't you try to get it published in a real book? I just read the new Buffy book "Blood and Fog" and the dialogue in some places sounded so forced, like the writer was trying to do Buffy-speak and couldn't quite master it. And the story itself was a little confusing to follow. What I liked about your story so far was that the characters seem to interact with each other on meaningful levels. I'm going to try to read the next section tonight before I hit the sack. I stayed up until almost 1:30 a.m. the other night reading. Gotta stop that. Oh, and the F word thing...I just meant that I'm not used to hearing that on the show or reading curse words in the books. Everything is very PG, so it just startled me to see it in your story. No big.

David said: Daddy likes playing on the new board ....
{eg}
It's giving me this kinda schizophrenic (if I spelled that right I'd be amazed) yaha! feeling flipping back and forth between boards - keeping up with three or four different conversations, and as usual being behind on all of them...but its fun.
