Fine with me, Vlad. My only concern is that those who don't now have their e-mail addresses on ScoopMe would likewise refuse to have even an "alias" e-mail address listed on the Scubie website. But if that doesn't happen, no problemo. I have no interest in secrecy for its own sake but only as an added protection for the terminally shy and paranoid (not that there's anyone on this board who fits that description, of course!) I mentioned the idea of a secret page mostly because I used to set up a "blind" page like that (when I kept a website) to post parts of a novel I was then working on so that my trusty readers could download it instead of having hugeous attachments to e-mail, yet not have it part of the site someone could blunder into by accident. It was handy; it worked. If we do things right out in the open and people are willing to have their alias' e-mail addresses listed, then great, wonderful. Perhaps some folk are not as shy as I had concluded from present circumspection about names, e-mail, and so on. And now that you're back...how DID you insert that picture in a post? Nan

Warning, with great power comes great responsibility. Only use the following knowledge for good. I am positive that ScoopMe will not allow the posting of offensive pictures, nor do I blame them. There is a time and place for nudity and the ScoopMe board is not one of them. This site is frequented by children and adolescents. These folk have plenty of other sites shoving crap in their faces. Let's not be one of them. Please don't make regret that I have passed along this knowledge. Hmmmm... okay, an easy way to post pictures to this site. Let me start with an opening first. For the last couple days I have been doing a ton of HTML coding in relation to the new Soulful Spike Society web site. Then, while reading through the postings, I came across Alex's reply to Cassie, posting her an URL to see that picture of Buffy and Spike. Now, when I was posting the link to hte web site for people, I thought to myself that I wish I could have posted it as a link instead of jsut hte address. Then, somewhere way in the back of my mind, I recalled seeing a post somewhere on ScoopMe that had BOLD and italics. Now, mind you this was when I first found ScoopMe a couple months ago. I hadn't seen any since. That got me wondering so I tried a little test. I remembered that the board for The Shield had ZERO posts on it. So I traveled over there and tried out some HTML coding. It worked! So, I came back here and posted that picture for the S'cubies. It's really very, very easy. Anyone that knows HTML can start right in. Just do a standard IMG SRC coding like you would for a web page. (Word of advice folks that know how, only post one pic at a time and don't do the really huge ones. They are jsut annoying if people have to wait for them to load up. Let's have some courtesy) *** *** *** *** *** *** How To Post A Pic In ScoopMe 1. find the pic online that you wish to share. This could be in a news article, on a fan web site...what ever. Lets use the website and pic that Alex suggested to Cassie as an example. Goto that site now: www.eonline.com/Features/Features/Buffy/Snapshots/index15.html2. Okay, there's your picture. But wait.. thats not REALLY your picture. Thats a webpage "showing" your picture. We need the picture and its ACTUAL address. So how do we find that? Easy! Place your mouse pointer on the picture and right click. A little menu will pop up and simply select "View image." Your browser will now change locations and goto the picture file only. If you look up in your browser address window, you'll see a long adress that finally ends in a file name that will end in either ".jpg" or ".gif" or possibly ".bmp" In this example the URL is: ak1.aka.eonline.com/7/1480/1218/0001/www.eonline.com/Features/Features/Buffy/Snapshots/Images/pg14.jpgHighlight and right click and copy. (Or take the tedious time to write this address down.) Now go back to your scoopme message posting window. To post the picture you need to do some HTML encoding. It's really easy. All you have to do is place a < immediately before the following command: img src= now, following that command place in quotations the URL you jsut copied. Follow this with a >. That's it.. all there is. Just send the post along and you should have posted a picture. May I make a suggestion, however... I will make a picture posting testing page here in Miscellaneous so as to keep all the trials, attempts, practicing and whatnot from filling up our S'cubies posting area. Please practice there til you think you have the hang of it and post to this board. Everyone will thank you for that. *smile* Thus endeth the lesson Vlad, TA, tp Edited By Vlad I at 1/27/2003 2:12:00 AM.

Nan- My heartfelt gratitude ( I am sure I would have gotten around to figuring it out in about 200 years or so...)
All- the site is brilliant... and only enhances the level of discussion over here.

OKay, this is hilarious. I created the testing area, and was easily able to post a couple pics from a web site (The Absolute Spike Galleries to be precise) No fuss, no sweat. But for some darn reason, the image I made to exemplify what the actual typed out command line should look like that I posted in the storage area of the new web page, WILL NOT SHOW. It's got me stumped folks. I'll continue to work on it. Until I figure out why it won't show, go to: www.geocities.com/scubiefan/and I will post the example pic there for all to see. It's located towards the bottom of the main page (the one with Alex's welcoming statement). *jsut shakes his head* Now you see what us TechnoPagans go thru day in, day out. *L* Edited By Vlad I at 1/27/2003 2:36:00 AM.

Vlad - I don't know if this info is what you need or not, but whenever I tried to use the <> markers with the word grin in between it never showed up. So I started to use parentheses instead. Probably useless info. No reply if it is not useful.

Thank you, Vlad - I did it. Yes!
Check out my pic of Spike in a suit and tie in Vlad's testing area.
If we start sharing pics, I'd like to suggest that the person who posts a pic hits "post new message" and not "reply to message".
It would be a courtesy to "post a new message" telling the reader that they are clicking on a pic and describing that pic briefly. Readers might appreciate knowing in advance if they are choosing a pic or something to read. Comments welcome on handling pics - if any comments need to be made.

Kazaa... yes, it is similar to Napster (which I assume you folks have at least heard about if not used before it was demolished) if not better, due to it's multiple file type dispersion.
But... (Ain't there always a but? And I didn't say "butt" Alexandra, get your mind off that pic of JM with the pointy jeans) *coughs* Where was I?
Oh yeah, but...Kazaa has written into it somethign called spyware. Now, I don't wnat to get into a big discussion of what spyware is, or its evils (or its good) but let me give you a brief description.
Spyware is software that is encoded and hidden in other programs that you download and install on your computer. What this hidden software does is scope out your computer, figuring out all sorts of things about it and you and then reports it back to the company that you downloaded the software from via transmissions over hte internet. Now this information can be used in many ways. Supposedly it's there to "help you, by determining you computer's dimensions so the company can know what it's users have to play with." Things like what programs you have installed, how much memory you have, how fast is your 'puter..etc. Unfortunately this information is also sold to the highest bidder in many cases.
You are probably, like most people, saying to yourself "I don't know if I like this." and "Can they legally do that?"
Yes, Virginia, they can. Remember that agreement you clicked "Yes" to when you installed the program? Well, somewhere in there was some fancy legalese stating that you basically signed your life over to them and in no way hold them responsible for anything they do.
I am not saying that Kazaa will do anything bad to you with this information. I am not saying that anyone that Kazaa sells your information off to will do anything bad to you. But, I think you have the right to know what you are getting into if you decide to use Kazaa. Thats my job here as your lovable TechnoPagan, least as I see it.
For those interested, there are other programs that function like Kazaa and if you email me at:
scubiefan@yahoo.com
I would be happy to direct you to some options that are spyware free.
Always lookin' out for his darling S'cubies,

You are welcome Alexandra *L* A girl with a new toy *wink*
Okay folks, so now you see that Alex can do it ... so can you.
I would like to state that I think Alex is a very, very wise woman...her suggestions for posting picture guidelines is an excellent idea. This would allow those that don't want to mess with pics to avoid them. And , believe it or not, some of us are not really that interested in seeing 16 zillion shots of JM in his undies eating Weetabix. *thunks his forehead and adds the update: Oh I forgot.. WHAT undies!?!*
So, I urge you to follow her sage advice on posting hte pics with an identifier as "picture" in the subject area and perhaps a very brief desciption of the subject matter being posted.

I thought about Nan's suggestion earlier, reread her posts and also read a letter she emailed me about it (which I hadn't read before posting my first reply) which clarified a lot.
I think Nan is onto something, so those people that would like to exchange their emails privately among only the "charter" S'cubies (Namely those holding chairs for now) feel free to email them to scubiefan@yahoo.com and I will create the secret page and email you back the URL.
If you would like to share your email with a specific other S'cubie only, send that in an email (using the email account you want to share) to scubiefan@yahoo.com and I will send along your email address to them and them only. Please be aware that there may be some delay in doing this, but I will be as prompt as possible in forwarding those emails. Also, if you want to send it to a specific S'cubie, please make sure you are clear about that. I would hate to mistakenly post you to the secret page.
I hope this will indeed help the shyer among you to feel free to share your thoughts with the other posters, maybe about things you would rather not say to the entire Scoopme world.
I still have a few misgivings about taking messages away from the ScoopMe site, but if the emails are used for only things that would not ever be posted in public, then I think it's a good thing.
Thank you, Nan for clarifying this all for me.

Okay fellow S'cubies, this little TechnoPagan is pretty well tuckered out. I can only channel so much mana a day, you know. You don't want me getting all black-eyed and veiny. *grin*
Looking around, I feel like we accomplished alot in the last 2 days. A whole new Spike website was published. One that is going to grow and grow. We futher increased the boundries of the ScoopMe posting boards. We furthered the study of Ebulgeancy to extraordinary new heights. We learned how to hang pretty pictures. *L*
But most of all, I think we are all learning alot about each other. We met as fans with an overlapping common interest. We are discovering fascinating things about each other. Now we are becoming friends and teaching and learning new things. As far as I am concerrned, this is at least a part of the meaning of life. I go to bed now happy. *hug* See you all tomorrow (today).

Do I have this right, Vlad/Alexandra?
What one is adding to the post is not an actual picture, but a link to an online picture.
So the picture has to be online, right? I can't (for instance) add to a post a picture on my hard drive, for instance.
Reply at your leisure. Thanks.

Thanks Water Gal.
A while back I installed KaZa onto my computer at work but it didn't run properly. Then I found that immediately afterwards my pc stopped printing. I deleted the KaZa but I still couldn't print, our Help Desk guys couldn't fix it and they ended up wiping my hard drive (ouch!) which was a real pain. There may not have been any connection but the timing seemed too suspicious for it to have been just a coincidence. Anyway, since this is my office pc I haven't dared try again. Too bad, it works great on my co-workers pc.
Thanks for letting me know how you did it. Say, maybe my friend will let me try it on hers. Otherwise I hope to find the first Season of Angel on DVD for rent at the video store so I can watch that episode. But I really don't want to buy it.

Thanks for the friendly warning. I was aware of the Spyware thing and installed KaZaA in such a way to limit it's intrusiveness (i.e. share only the "shared folder" and limiting outgoing download speed.) but I only knew because of my friendly TechnoPagan and I neglected to point this out to others. Thanks for posting the warning in a timely manner.

Oh good God, it's cold here! I'm talking below zero, in the double-digit negatives with the wind-chill factored in.
STOP with the techie talk, and somebody write me a nice, brief "hot thought" about Spike/JM to get the blood going to my extremities!
There's such a draft in my office, I'm sure the Initiative would read my body temp, or at least the temperature in my fingers, at 70 degrees or so. I am remembering James on Craig K's show, in that warm looking turtleneck sweater. What I wouldn't give to warm my hands up under that sweater right now. Of course, that would be true if it was 90 degrees out also . . .
