(Response) Hmmmm....I'm not sure if Xander would defend Spike directly, but Kennedy's crack about the SIT's being trained WAS incredibly stupid. However, you asked...so I'll try to come up with something Xandman style: "Trained? To what? Yell at each other and snore? Don't get me wrong here, Kennedy, but I could kick most of you girls' asses, and believe me when I tell you that's not saying much. Plus, hello, trainee?" (motions toward Spike) "TrainER. Do us all a favor and get the Hell outta here so we can fix this. Anya, stop staring at Spike's bone and help Willow." How's that sound?

I don't doubt that the other Scoobs were aware of what an idiot she was being. Spike himself was perfectly aware of it. The comment was so ignorant that they simply chose to disregard it. Another good reason for Xander or Dawn to remain quiet was respect for Willow. In the end, putting Kennedy in her place was Willow's responsibility, and she was distracted by actually being of use....unlike these snot-nosed SIT's.

I can't speak for lesbians of any era, but the key chain clip on the belt loop thing is very popular among lots of colleged aged kids of lots of different walks of life.

Very Xanderish, Robert. Even I feel the better for imagining that comment.
The younger generation, these days! No respect for their elders/betters....

I nicknamed those hideous hair disasters myself. The hedgehog is presently popular with right-wing rednecks, young Hispanic men and marine recruits. It is that spiky 1/2 inch buzz cut that also frequently appears on substantially overweight men so we can admire the roll of fat on the backs of their heads. It also gives us a chance to glory in the gleaming scalp beneath. In case that glimpse isn't enough we also have...
The cueball, which is currently enjoying its greatest popularity on young, usually otherwise very attractive black men who want to: a. look much older than they really are, b. hide the fact that they are actually losing their hair or c. appear really tough to a bunch of people who weren't fooled for a minute. Principal Wood is sporting one. The man's georgeous, why would he shave off his beautiful hair unless he wanted to give us his impression of a honeydew melon?
The puddlehead appears almost anywhere, but I've seen the majority of them on otherwise handsome Hispanic men and Mike Tyson wannabes. It used to be called the white sidewall. The guy shaves off everything except a little puddle of hair on the top of his head giving us the impression that he's about to tonsure the rest and enter a monastary.
You're right. The Mullet is awful. But I prefer a short top; clean, neatly trimmed sides and long back to any of the above.
Or a man could cut it neatly and bleach it almost white. Purr.

Personally, I'd like to see Anya "explain" it to her.

I really loved the look that flashed between Buffy and Willow when Kennedy began her little rant in reaction to Buffy's less than galvanizing admonitory speech to the troops.
It was affirming, wise, and bracing. They were sharing an adult task which includes calming the fears of errant and woefully ignorand and arrogant youngsters whom one may happen to be kissing.
As far as kennedy goes, i dislike the character and i can not figure out whether that is the fault of the creators or the actress who animates their conception. she just irks me. I was not ready for Willow to turn to a new relationship so readily but I feel this may just be her pattern...she is an incapable of being alone as Spike.
i half expect (hope?) for Kennedy to be eventually represented as a pawn of the FE but I think she is probably just a part of the learning process for Willow.
I guess I am having difficulty accepting that one of my favorit characters can be involved with someone i don't really like. (Just like friends in real life ) I mean I have gotten used to really enjoying certain characters over the years, whether bad or good. The Mayor, Principals Flutie and Synder, Mr Trick, Cassie, Holden Webster and I would like to be able to like Willow's new girlfriend. Pehaps I just have to settle for accepting that the price of missing Tara is to accept an inferior replacement as a metaphor for the idea that no one can replace Tara.

I almost had to scroll down to get here from the Misc Board. This is a frightening development. Ok...not really. It is about time we refresh, no?

Part Ten is now available. Thanks Vlad, the linking worked! I've been away from work two days with a bit of seasonal allergy.
Deborah, I haven't seen my posts since Wednesday at work, in case you wondered at my silence. Tah Dah!! I'm now the proud owner of a great new mousepad picturing Buffy and Spike who keep me company as I keep company with the S'Cubies. Delicious! I keep the mouse on Buffy so I can see Spike smiling at me. I love it! Domo arigato gozaimasu!

(Smiling and sighing in satisfaction) Thank you Robert. Those lines sounded quite natural in my head. If you don't mind I'll have him add on "And when it comes to Spike, AKA William the Bloody, you don't have the first idea what the hell you're talking about so put a lid on it."

Good point. But I'd venture to say that at least Dawn was aware. She was listening intently to that exchange and they showed a close up reaction shot of her. I'm just not sure I'm reading her reaction in the kitchen scene or her close up reaction shot in the living room exchange between Buffy & Spike right. They show a close up of Dawn right after Spike tells Buffy that he did it for her- that it was what she wanted. Someone else commented that she thought Dawn's reaction was shock at hearing that but I've watched it a few times since and I'm not so sure. I would love to know what Dawn is thinking about Spike and Spike & Buffy.

I'm neither lesbian nor college age but I still often hook my keys on my belt loops, especially if I'm working outside and frequently need to use them to get in and out of various buildings that must remain locked. But even other times if I'm wearing jeans or pants with sturdy enough belt loops I'll *hook up* with my keys just to avoid the risk of becoming unbonded.
Of course, I did pick up the habit when I lived in San Francisco...
