I'm having trouble getting to Dancing Lessons. Can you post the link? Sounds like my kind of music. Plus, Spike pics set to music? My dream come true!

I lost the first post and lost the nomenclature of the person I was addressing. Sorry, Rusty. Came up with "Randy," maybe from "Randy Giles."
Why do I keep doing things like this? It's so dumb!
I truly am sorry I got your name wrong, and you're very gracious not to have mentioned it, when you surely had noticed.

Don't worry about it. My brain spends alot of time as a Tabula Rasa. There's probably a Freudian complement in there somewhere.

Lee and Patti, If you, or anybody else, decides to come to the conference in Nashville, I'll provide transportation to and from the airport and a personal guided tour of the city. In case you don't have it, here is the link to information: www.slayage.tv/conferenceNotice the fine print at the bottom to get info on: The Conference | Call for Papers | Accommodations | Getting to Nashville: Mapquest | Southwest Airlines | Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau | City Search: Nashville | Nashville Weather (National Weather Service) | MTSU English Department Course on BtVS | Online MTSU For-Credit Course on BtVS | Attending the Conference in Cyberspace | Conference Flyer (Word format--print and distribute as needed) (To Josh: I read somewhere there will be a special call for "student" papers.) Of course this is not a fan event and no actors, writers, etc will appear. In fact, one year after the finale it's hard to know what to expect, but I think SOME OF YOU should at least consider submitting papers. As an interesting aside as I clicked around the site and its links I discovered that the MTSU professor in charge of the whole thing, DAvid Lavery, is also speaking at "Cornerstone". Cornerstone is a HUGE week long Woodstock-type event for Christian bands. He's going to do Buffy seminars two afternoons. My church sends kids to this event every year. I've got to email him and find out what kind of Buffy seminar one puts on in the midst of 200 Christian "rock" bands! (As an aside: I get so frustrated about lost posts that if I know it's going to be long I write it on Word first, then copy it onto the posting form. OR, a at least copy my post before hitting the post button, so I've got it saved if it gets erased.)

Mary posted at the top of the Misc Board; she accidentally started a new section when she meant to post here on the S'cubie board, judging from her second post.

Patti - I can't picture a revamped Angel show where Angel is human and Spike is the only vampire because . . . I mean, what is going to make the character of Angel interesting? They already have regular guys with Wes and Gunn.
OK, OK . . . I must have faith. It is just so hard to imagine how it could work successfully.

Trying again, hopefully in the right place this time! I so suck at this whole posting thing!
Hi from Mary Posted on 4/2/2003 11:02:37 PM By Mary Statz
Nan invited me again to pop over, so I thought I would. Actually, it was worded more like "Please spend every minute of your time writing, but if you need a five minute break..." *g* - just kidding, Nan.
And yes, I did love Nan's 'Spike the Fighter' essay. As I said to her, it always takes me time to mull over new episodes, to think about the details and how I feel they work into what we already know. I'm so impressed by people who can put together insightful and entertaining essays within hours of watching a new ep. As I told Nan, my thoughts on watching the tail end of the fight between Spike and Wood ran a little more along the lines of "Damn, it's good to see Spike kicking ass again, and so effortlessly!" Thankfully, others, like Nan, are far more able than me to come up with comments others would be interesting in reading! :-) Spike's uneven fighting skills over the last few years have bothered and intrigued me, and I love seeing someone who has noticed the same thing, and has come up with a logical and interesting exploration of this aspect of Spike (beyond 'uneven writing and direction').
When I got Nan's first, very complimentary e-mail, mentioning that 'Journeys' had been discussed here, I of course ran right over to peak. (It's a terrible weakness of mine.) Thank you so much for the kind words! I hope those of you enjoying the story with continue to do so. And god, when I saw that someone put the story second only to Barb Cummings - well - DAMN! What an amazing compliment! Barb is a goddess! When I first read 'A Raising in the Sun" I was running all over the internet telling people to go read it RIGHT NOW!! The line 'he was one big mass of Buffy-longing wrapped up in black leather and hope' could go down as the best descriptive line of Spike ever written. I'm incredibly proud that I nominated her for the Halo award she won, and I was thrilled when she began NE. I do remember one person who, when I suggested she read 'Raising' decided not to do so when I told her it had no sex, because she only read NC-17. I'm still stunned by that mindset. And I thought - well, if that's how you think - you don't deserve to read something as wonderful as 'Raising'. God - please! Not that there's anything wrong with NC-17. I like NC-17. I'm writing NC-17. I like lots of yummy sex mixed in with my stories. And I will admit that I think Buffy and Spike would use the physical aspect of their relationship to work out a lot of the other aspects...That could be a whole 'nother essay - anyone?
I AM kind of paranoid about spoilers, which is why I often avoid posting boards. I got spoiled horribly last year - to the point that I didn't sleep at all the night before AYW, and for TWO nights before SR. (This added to the impression of my co-workers that I am hovering right on the brink of insanity -- Okay, that and the full sized Buffy poster, and the Spike calendar, and the pics of JM on my bulletin board... am I not lucky that I have an actual office of my own where I can indulge myself?? And not get fired?? You can all now assure me that I am, in fact, NOT insane.) I lurk a little here and there, and occasionally toss in a comment. I have cyber friends who have been trying to get me to become an active poster at various sites for a couple of years now, since I discovered internet Buffy. (I discovered the show, completely by accident as Joyce was dropping Buffy off at school in the first ep - it was like, destiny or something!) But in just a few weeks my spoiler paranoia will be moot, and I hope to get a little more active at sites that are still around... :-( over the ending of the show...
And now for something completely different... Just a little self indulgence.
Slight spoiler below for people who have not seen all of season 7 aired thus far in the US: . . . . . . . . . . .
Figuring that I'd get a kick out of them, a cyber bud from England sent me the complete lyrics to the ditty that serves as Spike's trigger from the FE, and I'm so glad she did. ALL is now explained! (And really, I knew it all along...)
Early one morning, Just as the sun was rising, I heard a maid sing, In the valley below. Chorus: O, don't deceive me, O, never leave me, How could you use A poor maiden so?
2. Remember the vows, That you made to your MARY, Remember the bower, Where you vowed to be true, Chorus:
3. Thus sang the poor maiden, Her sorrows bewailing, Thus sang the poor maid, In the valley below.
Do you all now see? Spike forgot his vows to me, MARY! And this caused him to go insane!!!!!!!! The inner guilt over deceiving me - possibly with this whole "Buffy" obsession - what was up with THAT anyway? - was destroying him, making it possible for him to be used for evil purposes!!!!!!! We can only hope he will remember and come back to me soon. Because really, it will be best for both of us - and for the safety of puppies, and Christmas, right? And for the world in general...Right? Right? Anyone? Hello??
ROTFL.

I clearly remember that when this ep - the one that kept me up for TWO nights previous to airing (damned spoilers) - there was a commercial in the middle of the bathroom scene. I also remember thinking at the time - who the bleeding heck edited this?

Mary: I posted a short response to you on your first misplaced posting, but in regard to your comment: "We can only hope he will remember and come back to me soon. Because really, it will be best for both of us - and for the safety of puppies, and Christmas, right? And for the world in general...Right? Right? Anyone? Hello??"
OK . . . I will hope that he comes back to you soon, IF you promise to share.

Slayage relies on tips posted to them of interesting Buffy/Angel material. I've sent them a number of tips of that kind. Their e-mail is down on the righthand side of the "main" page, titled something like "Contact Slayage." And that's what I do.
But as I said to Kim about my resume, that sort of thing takes care of itself. I really truly don't care one way or the other whether anybody but S'cubies ever reads my "Spike, the Fighter" essay. I don't know if they'd be interested in Spring's Spike-centric episode analyses...now THAT'S an idea. I'll throw them a tip, perhaps tomorrow. All they can do is ignore it if they don't think it's the kind of thing they want to list....
Can't see that that would do any harm. And certainly Spring's essays, and the more miscellaneous ones like Rusty's (SEE? I really DO know her name if I just THINK about it!) and many Rob, Diane, and Deborah have done, and all the ones whose authors would like to murder me for not mentioning them by name, but are posted on the S'cubie site nevertheless, ALL deserve a wider readership.
Tomorrow, then.
