"Doomed" has always been an episode that entertained me a lot. Oh, how I longed for the days when the entire ensemble had things to do. If there is an unavoidable criticism of Season 7, that's it. How much better was the show when Spike was interacting with the entire Scooby Gang and not just Buffy? "Doomed" is a prime example of what the cast could do when they were allowed to fire on all cylinders--and it's not even an acknowledged BTVS classic. It was just another middle of the road gem that contained some of the most entertaining moments of that (or any) season. Spring makes mention of all the best scenes. In my personal opinion, Doomed is an episode that validates my reasoning that BTVS, at it's very best, was a balanced ensemble show. When they deviated from that, it didn't work as well. Which is not to say that it still wasn't terrific: weak BTVS still outshines 98% of anything television has ever produced. I will always have positive things to say about every season, and every episode. There is a ton of good stuff in every hour that ever appeared on screen. That is an astonishing achievement. True fans, though, criticize out of love. That is what I'm trying to do here.
