Come join our rag-tag fleet. Ok, everyone, right between the eyes if you please. I'm new to writing reviews; but, love to write with a purpose. If you have BSG related questions apart from the review, send 'em over the plate and we'll see what we can do. I do have the full miniseries and the first 8 episodes of season 1 at this point. They are available on many of the P2P services as well as on the newsgroups. If you have questions in that regard I'm all ears and will try to assist. Thanks a bunch and swing away

Nice job, havoc. I loved what you said about Edward James Olmos, he is the epitome of cool. I think the network is totally ignoring the fact that women like Sci-fi too, though. The cast looks like they should call this "Babes in Space." I haven't seen the pilot yet, so I'll reserve judgement until then.

I just wish they'd all agree on a way to spell his name and stick with it LOL. But point taken on the Babes in Space thing. There are some lookers in the cast.

The only good-looking guy is the evil one. Oh, and btw, how'd you get away with all the political comments? We've been told over and over we don't talk politics here. Vlad was my editor, but, I'm responsible for the content. Short answer, I don't know. We worked together to move it toward PC because the interest was in ya'll liking/enjoying it. And I had real concerns over whether it would offend anyone, though, it was written and submitted for editorial review before I knew the rules. I was still concerned with ya'll being comfortable with it. The commentary attempts humor and apology without trying to convince either way, just as with the balance of male/female points of view. There was some content more cynical from a female point of view that was suggested be removed and agreed to on that basis so ya'll could get to the review instead of getting bogged down on fairness issues. Hope we got the balance; but, I think it will be mostly absent in future pieces unless the editor allows for it. If it isn't fun, it isn't worth it. Hope that answers your question. If it doesnt', it's my best, honest attempt.

Your review shows off how knowledgeable you are on this topic, and I think it would be especially loved by avid fans of the old show who are also happy about the new one. If you know of any BG sites, you should do a little PR for yourself and your reviews . . . or if that feels awkward, let me know, I would be happy to pimp these for you at sites or posting boards you recommend. Vlad and Patti did that for me and Sue with the VM reviews, so I would be happy to pass on the favor.
You have a good style with plenty of little funnies (“I think we can all agree that beer, beans and a functioning digestive tract couldn't produce anything that smelled as bad as that salvage job.” ”Knowing I'll never get the date, we'll move on.”)
You had a lot of preliminary business to take care of on this one, and you did it skillfully. As this progresses, I'd definitely like to see a review that concentrates more heavily on on the new show and on the episode in question . . . though, I'm not even sure I'll get "hooked" on this series, so don't go by me! That is just my preference on reading ep reviews.
Welcome to the S’cubie tribe. And thanks for being willing to make this contribution to the site's growth.
PS> I noticed Nicki's "politics" comment above. She's just teasing, I know, but FYI - my take on this is that "non-partisan, non-inflamatory" references (such as are in your review) are A-OK.

Your comments were all fun and non-offensive, in my book. And you are allowed some hit-and-miss and experimentation. You have to have room to be yourself and expound on your own take of how people, and the world, work. It's no fun otherwise, and all our reviews would be boring paper-cut-outs of each other. Write it as you think best, trust in Vlad for editing, and upward and onward.

Thank you for the input, and yes I'd welcome assistance in spreading these around for others to enjoy, though I hadn't really considered that. If it spreads widely enough, I'm sure there is an ex-girlfriend out there that will detest me further for having to see my reviews (just kidding - sortof - maybe not) ROFL. At any rate, I hadn't really looked into posting these to any other site. And I've stayed away from other sites in general to maintain objectivity in my view of the new stuff. On the political commentary, the intent should be self-evident and I trust you're right. But still concerned for people's enjoyment.

Ok, I am NOT reading stuff about the premier ep because I don't want to be spoiled for it (if I end up being able to watch it when it airs ) but I just wanted to pop over and say YAAAAAY! about how glad I am that someone thinks it's good. I was an avid watcher of the first series (and, no, I did NOT have a crush on Starbuck!) and was deathly afraid when I saw the ads for the new series that it would be awful. So I'll see folks around here, which is amazing, because I hardly EVER stray from the main board!

I mean telling people about it and giving them links to OUR site. Definitely, I want to jealously keep these HERE ONLY. If you know of any sites that you want me to "infilitrate" with the news of this new offering at the S3, let me know.

The only good looking guy is Baltar. There are other guys in the extended cast you might, ehem, appreciate. Just have to watch I look at Katee Sackhoff and think she's earthy, tomboyish and pleasant to look at. She may not be the bomb in other people's estimation; but, her down to earth qualities make her more interesting then the tall leggy blonde. I just didn't want to drop the entire cast on ya'll given how long the review was getting

So I'll see folks around here, which is amazing, because I hardly EVER stray from the main board! You could probably read the first few paragraphs; but, If you want pure objectivity, don't. I approached the show expecting the worst and was pleasantly surprised to get the best in my estimation. I spent a few paragraphs going over obvious changes from the old show right up front; but, I get into a lot of spoilers for the sake of time. If I had to write the spoilers out till the end, it would have ruined my train of thought. And I wanted a pretty raw unadultered flow for the first one as much as possible. Editorial liberties or no, I think that's what I was able to present. I'm considering options for style on the others, so spoilers may be written out altogether. Will see.
