'My people need me.' *snort* Baltar was a hoot in those glasses tonight. Mirroring Adama and Laura? He's quite the horn dog, too. Did you see the look on #6's face when he called the president 'Laura'? She didn't like it one bit. You were right about Laura keeping Baltar close, havoc - 'the devil you know'. She's smart to have seen that he has the charisma that attracts votes. Loved seeing Richard Hatch again. I wonder who killed Valance was it (was he the one who had the gun in the teaser at the beginning - or someone else that we didn't see?) (?) My money's on Ellen. I kinda hate her. And Tigh is wound tight around her finger. The highlight of the evening - Starbuck - 'I clean up nice sometimes.' In a dress! Love it! And the dancing scene at the end. The Cloud 9 spaceship is really something. Another really good episode. Only 2 more to go.

My gut was saying he'd end up as a successor or on the council. He's both. And what's more, they did it in one episode. It works, though not in the manner I had envisioned were it to happen. I'm going to save some for my review; but, my feelings about what Roslin thinks of Baltar were born out in spades. Starbuck did not fail to please all around. And that goes doubly for the dress. LOL The wrench thrown into the Caprica situation has left me scratching my head and feeling I've stepped back 11 episodes in trying to figure out the larger picture for Helo. Throwing my hands up for now. I think the Messiah figure allusion may still hold; but, to the extent it does, I still have no idea how. What's in the case.. One last thing, for those of you who have been paying attention to my references in my reviews to George S. Patton, I was laughing when Tom Zareck quoted him tonight. That was just too much fun lol

Did you see the look on #6's face when he called the president 'Laura'? She didn't like it one bit. Six seems to be falling into a modified version of the trap Caprica!Boomer has. She's fallen for Gaius. I mean, she'll still rip his heart out if she feels like it - but now she'll do it because she luuuuurves him. Speaking of which, the scene where she is talking to him in the assembly session was hysterical! And she keeps aiming him at women who are no threat to her. The look on her face when she was listening to him on the radio was perfect. You could see she was captivated but not for one second did you think she really liked Baltar or thought he really meant what he was saying. Ellen is an interesting thought, although I'd tend to think she would be more likely to help someone else to do it, but I may be wrong. I can't help feeling that the cylons are either partially behind the strife and political shenanigans, or at least very very happy about it. Richard Hatch's character is so interesting. I feel much empathy for Apollo and his past belief in the guy and now he's so disenchanted. The guy can say some things that seem worth listening to - why are we trying to live our lives the old way, keeping the old hierarchies, pretending as if our entire existance has been radically changed, etc. But all the time he's saying it, we now know he doesn't really believe any of it - it's all just about his own power. Loved how Starbuck "cleaned up"! Plus the bar fight was funny and cool - beating guys up and taking them down with her cane. Lola

With as few eps as we have left in this season, I wonder how much we can get resolved for that plotline and how much will be cliffhanger.

Please tell me I don't have to wait til NEXT January?

Caprica has me totally scratching my head! With as few eps as we have left in this season, I wonder how much we can get resolved for that plotline and how much will be cliffhanger. I've been chewing that over quite a bit since last night. I can't imagine how they could leave that whole episode hanging for another season. Unless they establish some direction for it, I think it will begin hurting the show. Just my opinion for what it's worth.

When does season two begin? Please tell me I don't have to wait til NEXT January? I know they've signed for at least 20 new episodes; but, I don't know when the first hits the airwaves. They've been done with The ones we're watching now for quite a while as obviated by the fact that SkyOne was broadcasting so far in advance of the US audience.

Well the 20 eps news is good anyway! Just sent in my review. It's a book; but, in my study as to what's going on for next season, I found out that Showprep for the first two episodes of season2 are already underway. I haven't found an answer yet on the airdate for the first episodes of season 2. But, I'm with everyone else in hoping it won't be a January start date and will rather be like, yesterday lol.

That was just too much fun lol Yes, that Helo/C!Boomer situation is a headscratcher. I have the feeling that her pregnancy is advancing rapidly, what with her feeling 'ravenous'. My morning sickness usually didn't start until a few weeks in and I didn't get ravenous until my fourth month. Everyone's different, I know, but I just get the feeling that a Cylon pregnancy will be short. Ala the Angel - Cordy/demon spawn episode. I think that if Helo reunites with C!Boomer and she's visibly showing with child, that he will become the all-protective father.

Yes, I don't think that the Cylons factored 'love' into their big "Plan". It'll be interesting to see if it makes any difference in the long run. Oh - Yes! She is such a good actor and it makes all the difference in the world as to what is able to be portrayed in these episodes. To be able to read emotions in the actor's face with out the dialogue is so good! We're not quite sure if Ellen is human, are we? Baltar is the only one who really knows. *nods* Perfect terrorist philosophy - tell the people what they want to hear and instill a little fear. And RH is doing such a great job! I bet he is glad he signed on to the new series. The bar fight was great! And I agree with your assessment of Apollo's disenchantment with Zareck. At first I was confused because he seemed so out of character. It makes perfect sense to me now, thanks to you! I noticed he was drinking Ambrosia again, too - that should've been the tip off for me to his state of mind. Hmmmm. Something about how the writers are playing with the characters wearing glasses is niggling in the back of my mind, too.

Nice summary and review, havoc. So much happened in this ep, it's nice to have a timeline of the events to help keep it straight in my head!
When you talked about the newsies and their comments regarding President Roslin and Wallace Gray and so on, it reminded me once again of a thought I had at the time and had forgotten. And oddly enough, it is similar to some of the things that Tom Zarek was saying. (Only I think I actually mean it, rather than just saying it to gain power, like I suspect for him.) ;D The thought is that it is both odd and perfectly understandable that the humans are all trying to act as if things are the same as before the Clylon attack. I mean, they are doing and watching "early morning news happy chat" while the pititful few remnants of humanity flees for their lives across space in a ragtag bunch of ships. They should be in survival mode! They are in survival mode, but have gone into denial because their not currently struggling for water and bare bones essentials right at this second. They're griping about the politicians in the usual way while completely ignoring that they have the current administration and are having to elect a whole new bunch because almost every human was killed! They should be re-examining how their society is formed and how it is functioning. They should be looking at the best way to organize for optimal survival and growth and health and creativity. Tom is not really wrong to bring these ideas up - it's just too bad that his message will likely get so attached to the messanger that it's real possibilities might get lost. As you said, you disguise the poison with a whole bunch of "not poison". It should be possible to separate the two and take the good without the bad - but will they?
Hadn't thought that Tigh was likely sent in Adama's place - probably egged on and encouraged by Ellen as a way to increase his visibility and chances for advancement. Also agree with your assessment of Roslin as a very astute politician. As we see by the end of the episode, that impression is proved true.
Your mention of Six's ability to actually affect Baltar's heart made me think of other questions. I'm very very curious to see just how far Six's control of Baltar goes. Could she literally rip his heart out? Stop it? Make him rip it out? It's intriguing and scary! Are there others out there with their own personal Cylon controller? Are all the human!Cylon copies able to be "controlled" like that? I would guess not, or they would intervened more with Caprica!Boomer, but still . . . I wonder.
Very good comments about Helo and Caprica!Boomer. I totally agree that she seems to be sincerely in love with him - hurt and scared by how things are turning out. Will she truly be able to turn away from the rest of the Cylons? Is this going to be a key development? Do we have any doubt? ;D
Finally, very very good point with: "But the real question here isn't "Who did?". The question is, how did Zarek know that Valance was even dead." Just because the man says straightforwardly "I didn't do it" doesn't mean he didn't, or didn't get someone else to do it. Doesn't mean he did, either, but it is easy to get distracted and mislead. As you mention, the earlier conversation between Zarek and Ellen, combined with the significant look at the party, gives us potentially all we need to know.
Lola
Oh, and - LOL on "Are we in hell? Just checking." And your description of Baltar "bumbling" his way to power was soooo true!

I was thinking of printing a link to an image of a bookmark for that latest review. I've held back on a number of the ones I've recently done; but, at this point, I felt the holding back would not illustrate the basis of my points. This latest episode was involved and complex; so, it made commenting on it just as involved and complex. I stuck with trying to comment on the most relevant issues to the overall picture and still pumped out a review more than twice the size of my usual effort. I listened to the commentaries on scifi for this episode the other night. They don't give much away; but, did refer to this as the calm before the storm. I think they actually thought of this as a slow/quiet break. I was thinking, "when? where? at the dance?" If that is accurate, then I'd say all hell is about to break loose over the course of the next two weeks. May need to put airbags in the rollercoaster.
