Happy Gwen and Rhys all happy and snuggle wuggly? Hmmmmm.
All sorts of time stuff happening, enough that regular folks are noticing it. And, of course, being all wacky and "it's the end of the world"-y.
All the world leaders calling, asking: "Is this anything to do with us". "And is it?" Well, of course it is! Oooh, interesting idea. Time "aftershocks".
Owen all after Jack to fix things, and Jack all blaming Owen. Which is mean, but actually true, so the mean perhaps is a bit justified. And I love how Owen (heck, all of them at times) can be so demanding that Jack do something to make things right and then in the same breathe be so dismissive of the answers he gives.
[Sidenote: I am glad to have them at least show Owen clutching his shoulder and so on. Because the idea of using a shoulder shot to just stop someone without killing them and having it be no big deal is something that always drives me nuts. Getting shot in the shoulder is actually very likely to be horribly destructive with much potential for permanent damage and so on. Well. Back to the normal show babbling, eh?]
The cracks and strains in the team are all on the surface now. Gwen being all "even Owen has feelings" and Jack snarking "you would know". Ouch! And then with the "he brought you back, would you rather be stuck in WWII?". Which is ouchy in a way she likely doesn't know, because I think he really would rather be, in some ways.
Oh cool. An ancient soldier. And they're just so up front with the cop. Because things are falling apart so much that they figure why not? Or because they're so used to just wiping minds if they need to?
Heh! "Under any other circumstances, an energetic Roman soldier would be my idea of a perfect morning."
Meanwhile, Owen and Tosh find plague at the city hospital. Heh! "Well done, House." ;D And we get a scene to mirror what we just saw [and will see later] at Torchwood. The doctor is all "do something" to Owen. But he's a doctor at a hospital with, now, a diagnosis and drugs and so on. So, yeah, I agree with Owen.
You do something!
Tosh sees her mom. Really there, slipped in time? Or a vision? Using that "it's coming, out of the darkness" language we've heard before. "If there is no other way, you'll have to do it."
Gwen sees that Bilis guy. "I'm so sorry." For the time slippiness? For the future?
Ianto sees Lisa, tells him to open the rift.
So, all these messages from different not-real people are saying the same thing? But should they listen or not?
Back at the TW ranch, much of the same fight - everyone turning to Jack to make it all better. "You're the man with all the secrets." Ooooh. Jack says there is "no solution" because "this was never meant to happen". Does he know this for sure because he comes from the future?
Ooooh. He fired Owen? Damn! Who expects to be retconned - well, I would too, frankly. "Good luck with the end of the world. I would say, thanks for the memories . . . " He's got a rather amusing cynical snark sometimes, our Owen.
Shocking moment for the team, though. Cuts thru their feeling of this small self-contained isolated group, that it will always be just them. Not quite as disturbing as what happened with Suzie, but still . . .
Visting this Bilis guy, who can step across eras, and is apparently not happy about it. "I can see the whole of history, but I don't belong anywhere within it." Which is meant to be dig at Jack, too, but I think Jack thinks he is more isolated than he really is.
Hmmmm. Bilis guy says to open the rift again, but that's exactly what he's been wanting to do all along, eh?
Oh! Showing Gwen a future with bloody dead Rhys!
So she runs to him and . . . zaps him? Oh, Gwen! Same kind of "I'll fix this by messing it up horribly" idea as when you confessed and then retconned him.
And now Owen gets his visitor. Diane, of course. Feeding his feelings of wanting to get her back - she's lost. So, of course, the answer is to, wait for it, open the rift!
She tossed Rhys in a containment cell? Damn! Couldn't you just . . . I don't know. Handcuff him to something? Lock him in a nicer room? But toss him in one of the grubby weavil cells and run off? That's not such a good thing, I'm thinking.
Yep. Alarms, badness, cell doors opening, etc. Will a Weevil munch on him? No! Oh, Bilis stabs him. Twice.
Which of course is why he used those words with Gwen. "I'm sorry." Because he actually is the guilty one.
Plus? He doesn't look like he feels all that guilty.
Woah. True hysterical grief. And rather nicely done, with the screaming and the desparate planning and the following depressed affect. Plus, I can understand why, after all the end of the world creepiness and Bilis' vision where she felt Rhys' death and now it really happened. "This is what happens. We all end up alone." Well, we were all thinking it, weren't we?
"There's gotta be something we can do, otherwise what the fuck is the point of you?" The ultimate stating of the attitude everyone has been displaying all ep.
And then mutiny. They all go to open the rift. "
He said, open the rift and everything goes back to normal." Um. Does it really seem like it's gonna be that easy, guys?
Jack points out again that this is likely a trap, which is, like, yeah! "We're opening the rift and getting back what we love." Well. Just put it out there rather baldly, why don't you.
Jack with the gun, the gang defies him, and then, damn! Shoots Jack. Um. Not just once. Which means anger issues, Owen. When the first shot is to the forehead, all the ones after that are 'cuz you're pissed off. "I'm sick of people doubting me." Wel, this will make them much more confident about you, I'm sure.
And that's creepy. Doing the retinal scan of Jack's presumably dead eye.
(Of course, we know he's not dead. And so does Gwen, I would think, which makes her actions a little less awful. But only a little.)
Whoosh, zoom, crash. Things fall down. You can sometimes just see the doom coming at you like the proverbial train in tunnel, can't you? But do most people stop? No, instead it's Willow casting the spell and Wes taking the baby and the gang signing up with Wolfram & Hart and . . .
Heh! I love the scary grab of leg by alive again Jack. Huh. I wonder, will they think he's alive again because the time rift is putting things back again, like Rhys? "Everything is gonna go back to normal!" You keep telling yourselves that, uh huh.
Well. Isn't it always some monster and some idiot that worships and releases it? "The whole world shall die beneath his shadow! All hail whatever his name is!"
Always with the melodramatic speechifying, these evil monster worshiper-releaser guys. Ewww!
[Actually, I was kinda disappointed that it was this big monster thing, because I really wanted the cryptic lines to be referreing to the Master and all his crazy litte machines of death, but what the hell. And the bit with his shadow just sucking away the life from everyone was rather cool.]
And, of course, now they're all "How do we stop it, tell me what to do, Jack" again. Um, maybe you should start with not
shooting the guy you want to fix things?!
Jack the giant killer! "I'm an all you can eat buffet." Heh!
Although, really, that is kind of an intriuging idea. Did he think that the monster just wouldn't be able to go any further, because he can't suck up all of Jack's life force? Or did he think it would kill him? And how did it kill him? Did he get too full? Was the fact that his shadow couldn't advance enough to stop him? Was the life force so strong that it rebounded into the monster and, since he's a death thing, not a life thing, did it cancel him out?
And now they are thinking he's really dead. Put in the vault, next to Suzie . . . "He said he couldn't die." "He was wrong." Hmmmmm. Well, I'd at least wait and see if the body decomposes. I mean, it's kinda gross, but you'd be more sure.
Gwen waits and pats and waits and kisses him and, yay! He's back! Kiss of life! ;D
Big hugs for Tosh (happy Tosh) and big hug and kiss for Ianto (very very
lucky bastard happy Ianto) and Owen . . . Awwww! "I forgive you" and Owen just breaks down and gets cuddled and soothed (overwhelmed but happy Owen).
Talk of the visions they all had. (That I now assume Bilis sent them to convince them to open the rift.) "We all saw people we loved. What did you see?" "Nothing." Ooooh, some bitterness there.
"What would tempt you?" "The right doctor."
Yays!!!!
And now we get the hand a jigglin' and the TARDIS sound a whooshin' and yay!! Jack runs off to his destiny with the Dr Who finale!!
Yay!
