This episode brings us the Alias writing debut of Jossverse alum Drew Goddard, so be on the lookout for in-jokes, allusions, and lots of merry mayhem.

Anyone want to lay odds as to how many ads for Blind Justice we see during the next hour?

And as I continue talking with myself...
Two couples enter. One couple leaves.
And I suspect the proposal scenario Vaughn described is what he had planned for the weekend they were going to spend together--the trip they were about to take when Sydney had the knock-down,drag-out fight with Alison Doren that ended with Sydney losing two years of her life.

Okay, that was just..... weird.... But hell, Vaughn can talk Russian and English just as convincingly.
I daresay they rarely analyze ANYTHING they do, let alone everything. Which was why Vaughnie's big moment of introspection last week was so.... neat.
Kostromo? Is that near Kokomo?
Tom reminds me of Oswald from Drew Carey, for some reason...
Considering what?
It's a freaking suburb...
WTF???
Inititation?
Holy crap, it's the stepfordskiis.

So.... the CIA never knew about this place? Uh huh.
So.. does Sloane know that they were responsible for the Grozny bombing because HE TOLD THEM TO DO IT? HUH? HUH?
So many coupled spy teams. Pairs Spying gonna be an Olympic sport?
Tough room!!! I can't recall if Russian usage for "later" is that different from English usage.... huh.
"Four-and-twenty handguns, baked in a pie.... "
LOL!!!! "You two seem a little... cold"
"They asked us to play charades!!"
Don't forget, you need to have sex with each other. Simply as part of the assignment, of course.
Doesn't count unless you can pop it out of the foam and put it together in twenty seconds from there. Nyah!!

"ShallI bring the gun?"
This is just surreal.
So this is a way long term soviet operation.. kinda cool.
"Oh.. that's... not as sweet"
Oh, Vaughn, you beautiful bullshit artist.
Is this the "endurance" portion of things? Sitting in to listen to the muzak?
God, it's like a reality show from hell.
Very American.

Well, I suppose that means they won... so it's only fair if they just drive home from there.
Oh, that's not good.... Broken watch...
Oh, Syd... getting into the spirit of the operation. Good.
Ooooh!!! Steamy!!!
Oh, that's just nauseatingly sweet. "Karen and Dave did"
I wonder who "Sentinel" was.
Well, that was a pretty short audition....

Huh.. is that the observatory/planaterium from "Rebel without a Cause"?
Was that ever used as a location in "Angel"?
They don't know that Irina is "dead"? huh.
Uh.... that's NOT good.....broadcasting stuff over unsecured lines and crap...
Well, that's just great. I'd say that they are so dead, save that Syd has that "oh, crap" look in her eye...

COOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!!
So, how do they get extracted? I guess that detonating the thingie was sort of a good "help!" signal.
Sentinel is Irina? Huh. Would make sense.
So, not much in the way of in-jokes that I spotted, other than the scene tie-ins, like the souflee' just after Sloane says something about not calling the abort until things get too intense...
TWO WEEKS?! DAMMIT!!
Oh. State of the Onion address next Wednesday.
Fun little episode....
And they are NOT cold!! just repressed as all living hell.

There was 5 minutes left, and I said to myself - damn, this must be a 2-parter. Very cool special effects there at the end. I love big fight scenes and nice explosions. Does Sydney always end up saving Vaughn's life? The whole 'stepford' city scene was neat. Funny to think that the Russians probably really do think that about most Americans. It was ironic that Sydney and Vaughn look the part so well - contrasted nicely with the first scene. I can't wait for your review, Sara. I didn't get any 'Buffy' vibes, but I'm sure you did.

I liked the fact that a bit of an arc seems to be rearing its head. Sloane and Jack probably each have an end game in that last scene that neither is aware of. I know most people were getting a Desparate Housewifes or Stepford Wifes vibe but I was getting a Scarecrow and Mrs. King vibe when Lee and Amanda go undercover in suburbia to catch the makeup king. Especially when the gun was in the pie (if you've never seen Scarecrow & Mrs.King (an 80's show) just ignore me. I liked the turn on the doohickey and everthing goes crash/kablooey scene. Very nicely done especially the crashing helicopter. And I agree - boo hiss on waiting 2 weeks.

Griffith Park Planetarium, and yes, it's in "Are You Now or Have You Ever Been"- also shows up in ST:TNG more than once. Julia, not to mention the fact that if you ever visit LA with my husband, he drags you there at least once per visit

Me, too, on the "must be a two parter" thing- which is very Drew. The car buying thing was much too realistic, especially the guy coming back from talking with his sales manageer. I swear, it';s like kabuki or something. Julia, wondering about Sentinel, myself.
