Sneaky. Well at least Dixon is getting some. Though he does seem to be wearing a red shirt a lot these days. So how many times has he been shot lately? Anyone else but me think they killed Dixon? I haven't read any spoilers or casting about Alias and I thought - oh my God, they just killed Dixon. You know cause usually in these types of situations they die. And he was macking right before the mission which is usually the kiss of death. (Tony (sob) poor Tony - macking w/ Michelle now hostage to boff him and kill em Mandy and no doubt soon to be dead Tony - um, sorry, sorry that's a little 24 angsting) Actually, I did wonder about Dixon myself--I hadn't heard anything spoiler-wise, so I honestly wasn't sure if he'd survive or not. But Greg continues to assert that Vaughn's a dead man walking now that he's proposed marriage. And can I just take a moment to draw everyone's attention to last night's roster of actresses: Isabella Rossellini, Sonia Braga, Lena Olin and Angela Bassett? Not only are we talking A-list talent, but ask yourself when was the last time a Hollywood movie featured that many high-caliber actresses over the age of 35--other than one of those ensemble melodramas at least one studio rolls out come Oscar season every year. You gotta love J.J. for that alone. Oh I know and wasn't Lena magnificent? Though Isabella with her "I have a lot of stamina" snerk w/ Jack was pretty good too. I loved every single second of Spymommy. From the shooting of fauxIrina, to Sydney's quavery Mom as she looks down into the hole, to the wash of facial expressions as Irena realizes who Nadia is. She absolutely rocked the house and re-energized every scene she was in. Great casting and I'm so glad they met Lena Olin's demands (whatever they were) and got her back at least for this episode. And boy was VG on last night. So many facial expressions. And every time he looked at Lena, the smiles, the guilt. His verbal and facial smackdown of Vaughn. This was truly a squeeee worthy episode.

Now that I've allowed myself to read the TV Guide article about Olin's return ( ), I can tell you she's saying her absence was about wanting to spend time with her family for a while--she avoided J.J.'s calls because, according to her, he's very hard to say "no" to. But the good news is she also says she'd be open to returning next season. Olin truly was awesome last night--the scene you cited when she realizes who Nadia is completely blew me away. And Rossellini got that great scene with VG. And Braga got to have fun with Rifkin--her dry "Thank God" in response to Sloane's "I'm here to help you" was so perfect. I only hope that someday, somehow, we get to see all three sisters interact onscreen. In a non-fatal way, that is. It also appears we may be headed for the fulfillment of the famous "the chosen one and the passenger battle to the death" prophecy next week. That should be interesting, to say the least. Wonder whose side Irina will end up on...

Although there might be a spontaneous combustion on the set due to all that magnificent acting and sheer stage presence all in one place.

Definitely squeee-worthy! And yes, so many talented, gorgeous over-40 ladies. I swear, Irina looked like Syd's older sister, not her mother. And didn't Irina look gorgeous, after cleaning up, for a woman who had been tortured and imprisoned for two years?
Those Derevko family reunions must be really explosive!
I hope they're not gonna kill off Nadia, though...

Sara - I really find it almost impossible to break your reviews down and comment on them. First because they are so amazingly in depth that every paragraph kind of knocks my socks off.
I loved all the quotes (again) and I agree wholeheartedly with your analysis that these past two episodes have transformed season 3. I tip my hat to J.J. and the writers. I read - as I'm sure they did - all the bad reviews of season 3 and how they lost their way and yet - presto, wallah - lookee here it all makes sense again.
Especially the final scene. Great call on Lauren's motives.
I consider Rob Thomas a writing genius for his characterizations and interweaving on Veronica Mars. I also consider J.J. a writing superstar and the thing I admire about him is his willingness to dream big and take writing chances. Sometimes, true, he kind of falls on his butt but he gets up, brushes off the tush and plunges back in.
Kudos on a terrific review.

Seriously blushing over here--I may have to print this out and tape it to my computer for when I'm in the throes of one of my "I SUCK at this" spells. No, really--thank you. I very much appreciate the kind words.
