Then I present as my next piece of evidence: earlier in the ep, they'd all been sitting out in the California sun, in not-remotely-wintry clothes. "Enjoy the sun," said Sloane.
(Plus, there's the issue of it actually never being cold enough, most winters, in L.A., to light a fire.)
Dude, c'mon--work with me here. Besides, are you're saying that you never have days when it's sunny enough during the day to wear short sleeves yet the temperature drops enough in the evening to require coats? 'Cause we get those a lot on this coast, particularly this time of year. In fact, that's exactly the kind of temperature shifting that makes for a successful sugaring season--in the 50s and sunny during the day, down to the high 20s/low 30s at night.
What was my point again...? Oh yeah, the fire.
Okay, setting all weather issues aside let me ask you this: doesn't having a roaring fire going in his study seem like exactly the kind of affectation Sloane would indulge in, particularly given how he saw himself as a Rambaldi scholar and all that? The entire room had the quintessential "learned man" decor going for it--all he needed was a Meerschaum with smoke wafting out of it to complete the effect.
Oh, and did anyone else find it ironic that Nadia met her end after falling through glass, given that it was Nadia's fall through another sheet of glass that caused Sloane to give up his Rambaldi quest in the first place? Guess some things are just meant to be...

Oh very nice parellel indeed Sara.
The fire didn't bother me - it seemed the type of house Sloane would have. Plus I would assume he is very wealthy - from SD 6 days or his days running that non-profit. Money is probably the least of his concerns.
I enjoyed the episode. I was sad to see Elode (spelling?) go though - I loved her character. Still not that many eps to go - need to wrap up storylines and kill off the extraneous characters.
