Am sleepy and sick. So it's probably not the episode's fault that I'm not so engaged this time. The Doctor seems to be supremely wise on one hand and supremely oblivious on the other. All purpose password: Buffalo. Interesting reactions, concern, discussion from Jackie and Mickey about Rose taking up with the Doctor. Foreboding expression from the Doctor when Jackie asks if Rose will always be safe with him. You kiss this man? Hee! Again, about making money. Wow, major vibes between Rose and the Doctor now. A little manipulative of the Doctor, no? What's the real reason he doesn't want to dine with Jackie? Taking the "Big Bad Wolf" graffiti off. You'll believe in something if it's invisible, but not if it's right in front of your eyes. I wonder if those two things have anything to do with each other?

Mickey, god love him, is NOT the adventurous type. He's a stay-at-home groundhog. Good guy: straight up. Good man to have at your back. But not the type to go out to the stars. **nods** And it was actually rather nice of the Doctor to take the "blame" on himself. To say that he wasn't letting him come along instead of Mickey having to say that he didn't want to go. I also liked that. It reminds me of the Sixth Doctor in a way. He's good almost in spite of himself.

He could have. He's not always likeable, this one. I mean, even though it DID mean, to them, something more than tea, he's an adult. He can have tea without having to stay on earth forever. You're right - he's not always likeable. I'm afraid that the Ninth Doctor is seriously traumatised. His inability to cope with domestic situations and closeness to others is something he tends to pass off with bluster, but in fact he's terrified. Perhaps the next ep may have something to add. It's only Rose that he can be close to, at least at this point. It may be that by the end of the Season they suggest a reason for that. I can't possibly comment. I know what you mean, but there's a family ep in three episodes time, and its very good. Nan sent me an IM to say how impressed she was by it. Some people think it's the best ep in the season. But the TARDIS just can't be relied on. I seem to remember Sarah being dropped off in the wrong time and place. Did you never think to yourself, hang on, what happens when these people just disappear? I honestly never did. It was part of the fantasy, for me, I think. Just pick up and leave without having to worry about the people who would miss you. Many of them really wanted to just get the hell out of where they were (Leela, for example, seemed enthusiastic about "anywhere but here"), Sarah Jane DID eventually get back to her life...they all seemed either happy with their decisions or fulfilled (or, occasionally, dead)....

Congratulations, everyone! You survived the first block of episodes (which were all filmed together), including that wretched Slitheen story. Yes, I know all these eps (even those with the Slitheen) have something to recommend them, and I am quite fond of "The Unquiet Dead", but we really can do better than that, don't you think? There are eight eps left; six of them are good and the other two are a touch mediocre, rather than actively bad. It's Episode 6 next week. Looking over my review of the season I see that I have devoted more than six times the space for this one ep than I have for both Slitheen eps combined. From now on, apart from two blips, things only get (much, much) better. **bounces** ;D

Yay, the Doctor stopped them! Rose's mum too! Yay! (Like there was ever any doubt. ) Heeeee! The look between the Doctor and the soldier guy. And then all the farce-like running thru different doors. ;D "I need to be naked!" "Rejoice in it. Your body is magnificent." The aliens have a neat loping run. And their face are like . . . like . . . like a slow loris or something! Heeee! And they repeat the whole "lots of planets have a north" joke. ;D Something tells me that's gonna be a running joke. "That's never going to work, is it?" "No." ;D ;D Loved that little exchange.
