Sara, Thanks for collecting all of the poetry - it must have been hard to go back through all of last night's raw postings to find it. One minor quibble: Not Fade Away belongs to that brown-eyed Texas man Buddy Holly - as I'm sure Fred would have known. Becky H.

I actually knew that Buddy Holly wrote the original but figured Julia was thinking of the Dead's version. I've changed the post to be more accurate about the attribution. Thanks for mentioning it.

I've changed the post to be more accurate about the attribution. Thanks for mentioning it. And while I'd love to take credit for writing "It's So Hard", I think it's best to attribute it to the movie "Cooley High" although Boyz II Men later did the re-make, which was just as lovely. All in all, a nice recap of our tributes to our fallen show, cut way before its prime! Thank you for taking the time and energy to do this for us!

Thanks for mentioning it. and, while Julia was thinking of the Dead's version ( and so was DB, according to interviews), this ex-city gal was thinking, of course, of the Stones.

Thank you Sara. How hard it must have been to back and find them. But a beautiful tribute to the ep and the show. Just the first of many tributes, I'm sure. Lola

Okay. I think maybe I can be coherent again for a while. But no promises. -Belated congratulations to Patti for reaching 7000 posts. And a few of those actually weren't all in a row. -The S'cubies spent the better part of the day feeling poleaxed. Low concentration, trains of thought not even pulling out of the station. Still lots of tears, quite a bit of anger. -Julia, Spring and Diane each had dreams of the Buffyverse recently--Spring even got to touch JM in hers. And one of the characters in Spring's dream was a transvestite who got into trouble with stream-of-consciousness talking. Wonder if we know anyone like that... -Shanno continued to take excellent care of all of us, preparing sandwiches and just generally being very supportive. -Herself already has a fanwank at www.livejournal.com/users/herself_nyc/506468.html#cutid1. Some really liked it, others found it too schmoopy and missing the point. -becca noted that both Fred and Illyria are familiar with portals--could be a means by which the foursome get out of the alley alive. Many, many S'cubies liked this scenario very much. becca also felt having a bunch of Slayers swoop in and save Angel and the others wouldn't really fit with the theme of the show and this season--finding one's own power. -TMC can bite each and every one of us. -Welcome to newcomer Jaime--we'd love to have you stick around. -We've added cat and dog rooms to the Thrall Room. -becca illustrated the difference between a soldier and a warrior's mentality: a soldier just gets the job done; a warrior focuses on honor and facing your enemy. -One hot topic of discussion was how no romantic relationships in the Jossverse ever end well--Anne and Rachael in particular feel very strongly about this. Erin responded with a thoughtful post about how the bonds that always mattered most in the Buffyverse weren't the romantic ones, but the ones between friends and family. She also said: I, personally, wept like a baby after reading that. -HWSNBN struck around 5:30pm EST, eating four pages. becca began posting what she'd recovered on page 12, with Erin adding in earlier posts beginning on page 14. -Some conversation about OMWF sparked by Barbalurina's questions (welcome back, BTW.) about Xander's role. Becky came up with a very plausible reason as to how Xander could sing with innocence knowing he'd set the spell in motion on page 18. -KMinfinity also shared two very interesting points made by a friend of hers: that we could consider the WB farewell as perhaps a gift from the WB employees who loved the show, not the suits who killed it. And that the final battle waged by Angel and his friends isn't all that dissimilar in spirit to the one waged by fans on behalf of the show: you fight even when you know you probably won't win, simply because it's the right thing to do. -When we all dove back in the pool after the board was behaving again, Riff said he'd roll up his trouser legs and paddle. Rachael immediately offered to help. -The main topic of conversation switched to cats and dogs beginning on page 15 or so. Lots of fun stories about pets and their wacky ways, with Rachael pulling out the big guns and getting into genetics. Sigh. I miss my dog so much sometimes... -More interesting information from Rachael about chromosomes and how that whole X/Y deal works can be found on page 19-20. She talks in a way the rest of us can understand, a rare gift among scientists (at least in my experience). This segued into some completely non-entendred discussion about the still sketchy difference between one's physical and/or chromosomal sex and one's gender, transvestitism, and biology vs. choice. Really interesting stuff. -I shared my brother's awesome "Wes Lives" idea on page 21. Read it if you need a little shot of hope. -Lola returned with a vengeance, scattering multiple posts across pp 21 and 22. And I think that does it--sorry it's a little scattershot, but I can almost feel my neurons shutting down even as the ones still functioning continue to cry out for sleep. I promise to try and be more with it tomorrow. I hope everyone has a good evening, full of pleasant dreams of life in Erinland. Be excellent, S'cubies. Your humble scribe, Sara

There's still a lot of hurt, a lot of sadness, and a fair amount of anger being expressed on the board even as we start to gain some distance from Wednesday. But we've also wandered into some other topics of discussion, and even had a few laughs. So pull up a comfy chair, a comforter, and your soothing beverage of choice and take a look: -Karen, Matthew, Barbalurina, Anne, Lola, Reeta and Sandy were all feeling my love for my brother and his "Wes lives" theory. Shanno thinks he's a sick man and wondered if he's married. Erin named him a lifetime resident of Erinland. -Julia and Rachael chatted about hamburgers and other dinner delights. Mmmm...mac & cheese... -More about cross-dressing (as if we were going to let that topic go so easily. Rachael's words of wisdom for the day, eetahed roundly across the board: "Hairy back. Dress. Not a good combination." Meanwhile most agreed it's harder for women to be cross-dressers since so much of what is considered men's clothing is now perfectly acceptable for women to wear. Many of the female S'cubies agreed that in many ways they like men's clothing much more than women's from a purchasing standpoint: generally it's better made and less expensive. -S'cubies shared fond memories of favorite shoes, leading to one inescapable conclusion: high heels are the devil's own work. -Matthew and makd explained the physiological reasons behind why certain things (high heels, lipstick, bras, mascara) are sexually appealling. -Much praise for Rachael's ability to explain science to us liberal arts majors out there. -We had some discussion of Xander and his behavior/motives in "OMWF." Rob heads the contingent of those who feel Joss picked Xander as the spellcaster because it was an easy out that ignored who the character was, not to mention proceeding from there without ever acknowledging Xander's role in people's death. Meanwhile Becky, Karen and Spring offered why they feel it was consistent with who Xander was at that point in his life and that he was indeed punished for his mistake. -Rachael had a *shudder* moment when she realized how much the hairy-back guy, whom she dated briefly, was like her father. Others shared similiar squicky "holy crap, I'm dating my dad" realizations. Paging Carmen Elektra...Carmen Elektra to the front desk please. -Caraleigh let us know that Wisteria had her Review in Screencaps up at www.livejournal.com/users/wisteria_/363334.html#cutid1-Shanno. Patti-itis. Page 27. One posting of note--Shanno is now getting pop-ups, and they're all from for Viagra. Meanwhile Diane broke into Shanno's run with a fine Patti-itis of her own that stretched into page 28. becca slipped a few posts in there as well to break up the string. -Corsets okay. Underwiring bad. Spike pretty. FYI Diane makes her own corsets--check out this site www.sempstress.org/experiments/cordedeffigy.shtml to see an example (not of her own making, but of the style she does). -Diane's insight for the day: Hee. Later Diane and Julia got into more detail about the obnoxiousness of adolescent males and females and the ways in which said obnoxiousness does and doesn't prevent early pregnancy. They noted society doesn't help a lot in this regard either. -I did a very bad (read: crappy) job of conveying what becca was getting at when she talked about soldiers and warriors, so this time I'll let her speak for herself: -Spring doesn't really buy into my brother's idea for Wesley's survival but does firmly believe Wes would have been back for season six, which is all that really matters. Her dissension led to some interesting debate about the role Vail might or might not play in any "Wes lives" theory. -Julia and Karen expressed their enjoyment of season 5, while Rachael is still very, very angry both with Joss and with herself. And, as Spring said, it's nice that we have a place where both viewpoints can be expressed and accepted as just that. -WB execs: Kings of all asshats. May lesser asshats bow before them. -Vlad welcomed everyone to the S'cubie Mile High Club, where you have "69 opportunities to get off...the ground every single day." As he notes, be sure to always have everything in an upright position. -Karen--it's a little late for us to be worrying about making sense, isn't it? -On page 3 of part 179 Patti posted Riff's entry in the Spoiled Souls thread about some of the ideas and events season 6 might have included. The S'cubies found that seeing what might of been was both helpful and very painful. See above re WB execs. -Becky made a very thoughtful post paralleling what happened with Wesley with Camus' essay "The Myth of Sisyphus," and how being aware of the struggle and one's place in it is what gives the fight meaning. Her post is also on page 3. -deborah had trouble with an assertion made in an article about Angel's final season--Spring (and Julia, I sense) felt the author was seeing the overall message Joss meant to convey (and would have gone into more during season 6), not necessarily what this season specifically was about. deborah's still having trouble reconciling Angel's actions with his stated desire to do good. -The Thrall room is still fully equipped with all the comforts you could ask for as we continue to try and come to grips with what's happened this week. Feel free to stop by and avail yourself of whatever you need. And I think that just about catches us up. Above all else, the board continues to be supportive toward everyone, no matter their stance, mood, or level of homicidal mania towards the WB. So keep posting, keep reading, and keep being excellent to each other. Yours in S'cubiehood, Sara

Friday night... ...still finds many of us in emotional places as we continue to process everything this week has brought us. But as we all took turns in good and bad places, what remained constant was the network of support that is the S'cubie family. We also managed to squeeze in a few conversations to boot: -We continued the conversation about the article deborah read at buffy.nu/article.php3?id_article=4684 regarding Wednesday's episode of "Angel." Seemed like a radical interpretation of the text to most. And Spring noted that while one may be able to draw real-world parallels, it's the examination of the underlying issues that seems to interest Joss the most. -Diane provided links to more information about different types of corsets: www.corsetsjardiniere.com/vinimagelatebustle.htm and homepage.mac.com/festive_attyre/research/cording/cord.html-Erin invited everyone to ride her. Matthew immediately jumped to the head of the line. Then Erin told us about how she'd leveled a wanna-be mugger with her backpack. Matthew stepped away from the line. -Matthew tried to figure out which kind of approach would work best on Rachael. The mood she's been in lately, my thought would be a flak jacket and fire-retardant clothing. Matthew, however, went with nibbling. -Diane added a new entry to the collection of S'Cubie creeds: Many eetahs throughout the day from various S'cubies. Spring followed up with a nice post about how Joss finds new ways of reminding us of life's vicissitudes and helping her feel less alone. Meanwhile others are still having some trust issues when it comes to Joss, although they realized they'll probably end up getting sucked right in to whatever his next creation is. Everyone agreed it's been a tough year to be a television fan. -Lots of cat love woven throughout the thread during the day. -The english major geeks had fun trying to rewrite a truly hideous sentence Rachael stumbled upon. This segued into wondering why people think good writing has to be impossible to read. -Julia revealed an awesome new avatar that's winning fans across the board. -Erin noted the poor taste involved in a magazine including a subscription offer in a rejection letter. Why didn't they just give you a paper cut and pour lemon juice on it too? -makd posted a link to extra footage of the shooting of smashed: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=201&item=4014462172&rd=1. Some S'cubies felt a bit weird about looking at the images, particularly as JM apparently seems uncomfortable during the shooting of the scenes. makd also told us someone put some of JM's spit up for sale on ebay, which takes us well beyond creepy into a level of gross we can't even find the words for. -Jordan Levin is an asshat. Like you needed me to tell you that... But we also indulged in a round of trying to figure out creative ways to curse the pinhead on pp 17-18. Maybe we should wish he'd experience the hell Nikki's been--and continues to go--through. -Speaking of which, there was lots of love and good wishes for Nikki as she struggles along on the road to recovery. -Becky's teaching her daughter to cook, in part as a distraction from dwelling too much on "Angel." -Barbalurina envisioned a Buffy/Matthew WWF-style wrestling match. The odds for who wins are very much dependent on what Matthew's wearing for the bout. Matthew's hoping, meanwhile, that Buffy wears just the halter top. -Spike/Clipboard is now Lola's OTP. Matthew suggested someone should let Rachael know her lab equipment is off fraternizing behind her back. -Matthew made certain assertions to Barbalurina regarding his abilities in a certain area; she countered by making one of her own; they decided to go test their theories in private. Kinda like the "research" exchange between Harrison Ford and Kate Capshaw in "Temple of Doom," except no assassins with garrottes. -Lola is headed off for a conference in Washington, DC, for a few days which will most likely, and most unfortunately, keep her off the board until Thursday. Grr arrgh. Stay well Lola--we'll miss you. -Anne indulged in a little Patti-itis toward the end of page 24. -Happily, Rae now has an avatar of Spike and his clipboard. Excellent work Rae. And we come to the end of yet another recap. As it's way past my bedtime and the noseeums are currently eating me alive, I'll sign off for the evening. But I'd like to say I think we've made it through an extremely difficult week in surprisingly decent shape, and it's entirely because we have each other. What a rare and special place this board is. Enjoy your evenings, and remember to keep to the code: Eschew the badger. Embrace the bonobo. Enjoy your inner bitca. Assume the IMO. Defy the chicken. Eat some chocolate. And continuing being so absolutely excellent to each other. Itchily yours, Sara

Looks like it's been a quiet 24 hours or so on the board, which hurts my feelings not at all. I'm guessing it's a combination of the usual weekend lull and folks taking the time to decompress a little after the intensity of the past few days; I know I needed to unwind a little myself. Still, we managed to fill up some pages with our usual array of musings: -On page 25 Julia offered a pointed, funny, and absolutely necessary list of dos and don'ts for fanfic writers hailing from other countries. I'm thinking it should be posted on the home page of every single fanfic site with the corrections others offered worked in. Her notes also made us wonder why soda is sold in liters in this country when everything else is in quarts and half gallons, which in turn segued into an examination of the shopping habits of single men (buying quarts of milk instead of half gallons). Various shopping stories and memories were interspersed through several pages of posts. -Rachael had a nice evening Friday night that involved flirting with a cute guitarist. No word on whether he sprouts hair and fangs during the full moon. -Linda is on board as another greggist, offering her own thoughts and evidence (including episode dialogue) in support of his theory; Karen eetahed Linda and added a few observations of her own. Our numbers continue to grow... -becca, off of Julia's "listen up fanfic authors" post, included a link to unusual martial arts laws: www.martialartsplanet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4531-Many S'cubie hugs for Nikki as she continues her health struggles. -Diane won her audition for the return of her Texas Renaissance Festival 2000-2002 character. Big congrats Diane!! Once she's down from the victory high Matthew's praying she goes back to the Darla/Dru avatar. -Nikki. Patti-itis. Page 27. -Sue's been busily at work trying to help Carolyn pack for Africa. -Julia provided some information about the architecture of the Summers home while engaging in a brief, self-acknowledged bout with Patti-itis on page 28. Becky later recommended Virginia and Lee McAlester's A Field Guide to American Houses. for anyone interested in learning more. Julia seconded Becky's praise. -Rachael noted that intermediary-memory formation is very sensitive to anesthesia and described how memory works in fruit flies. Later Shanno questioned whether the flies aren't just messing with her in hopes she'll give 'em something else to do. -Becky told us about the new porch she and her husband added to their home. -We learned the red cat Bombalurina from the musical Cats was the inspiration for Barbalurina's name. Who knew? -Julia accrued some serious martyr/brownie/good relative points today. -becca had a nice day with her mom. -Anne had a brief run of Patti-itis at the bottom of page 30 which served as a warm-up for her full onslaught on page 31. -This week's issue of Entertainment Weekly isn't doing a whole lot for S'cubie readers, while Rachael was less than impressed by Van Helsing. What is winning fans among S'cubies is Shrek 2, which Shanno, Barbalurina and Sunset insist everyone see immediately. I believe that covers the gist of Saturday in S'cubieland. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend and keeping to the S'cubie code: Eschew the badger. Embrace the bonobo. Enjoy your inner bitca. Assume the IMO. Defy the chicken. Eat some chocolate. And be excellent to each other. Your humble scribe, Sara

Looks like Sunday has been marginally busier than Saturday was, but all in all still a fairly quiet weekend in S'cubieland. Let's see what posters have been up to as the weekend draws to a close:
-Congratulations to Anne on reaching 4000 posts. -Congratulations to Linda for reaching 200 posts and thus Master S'cubie Status. -Anne also gave those of us who've never seen Cats or read the pertinent T.S. Eliot poems a little more background on Bombalurina the cat. -Rachael pointed out the lack of reality in an old episode of Angel where Gene, a lowly grad student, has his own lab. Otherwise, this episode about a vampire and a demon from another dimension preventing Gene from freezing time and thus ending the world was spot-on. -Matthew and Patti achieved simultaneous "woo hoos" when congratulating Anne, apparently a first for both of them. Rachael burst their bubble when she assured them it's only difficult the first time. This revelation prompted Matthew to grab the clipboard and renew his experiments with the nibbling approach--EMTs were standing by. -There was some crankiness and debate over a perceived dumbing-down of Riley before his departure in season 5 and whether he was as perceptive about people as you'd perhaps expect a psych TA to be. This led into a discussion of the idea (put forth most noteably in Sherrily Kenyon's Seven Seasons of Buffy essay) that Buffy sucked all of the testosterone out of any male she interacted with, a theory that has its fans and detractors among the S'cubies. Whether Xander fits into this pattern was bandied about as well. The Xander talk led to a brief moment when Barbalurina believed Matthew didn't understand the phrase "spatial relationships," but he assured her he had absolutely no trouble with knowing what size something is or whether it'll fit into a given space. -Linda contributed a long post expanding upon the Greggist Doctrine on page 5. Then she made her 200th post a memorable one by relating a funny and touching story about what the Jossverse and the S'cubies have meant to her life on page 6. -becca pointed out that it's quite likely Gunn's soul belonged to W&H (remember his last conversation with the conduit)--meaning, like with Lilah, death wouldn't mean he's necessarily done working for the firm. -Diane. Patti-itis. Page 7. Page 8 pretty much belonged to Julia and Rachael, with one post by cal and two by Spring being the only things keeping them from owning the page outright. -Rachael steeled herself for an outing at the ballpark with her father, who would be arriving at her house quite a bit earlier than he needed to. Deep breaths were the order of the morning. Julia posited that parents overcompensate on things their parents were bad at (being egregiously early when their parents were always late, for example). Knowing this was somehow not all that comforting. -Nan's finally got her internet connection back, and let us know that she'll be working hard this coming week trying to make up for the time she was laid off. She may have something new in "Blood Rites" done soon, but it's looking like the "Not Fade Away" review will be a little late. -cal gave a thumbs-up to Troy. -Johnny Depp pretty, even when he's dressed like Cher.
I think this covers things for now, but as always if I've missed something important please feel free to either repost or smack me upside the head. I'd prefer the first, of course. I hope everyone's had an enjoyable weekend full of opportunities to:
Eschew the badger. Embrace the bonobo. Enjoy your inner bitca. Assume the IMO. Defy the chicken. Eat some chocolate. And be excellent to each other.
Stenographically yours,
Sara

It's been a fairly busy morning in S'cubieland, clear evidence that everyone's back to work and looking to avoid any semblance of productivity. Let's see how that's been going: -Riley has many fans among the S'cubies. Consensus: that Riley is a good guy--just not right one for Buffy. They were young, had too many communication issues, and perhaps too little common ground. We also talked about how we could love characters and yet still be annoyed with them--a tribute to their complexity. -Speaking of complexity, a public service announcement: Per Emily, Anne's daughters are no longer to be referred to with the collective noun "the kids." Instead they are to each be called by their proper names. Thank you. -Knox cannot die too many times. Whenever anyone needs a "Knox death" fix, I recommend watching Firefly's "The Message." -DK sent us to a screenshot for "The Sims 2" www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/thesims2/screens.html?page=97. Remind you of anyone we know? -Some sick yet happy visuals of VampWes and VampGiles. A few wondered if there was such a thing as a Watcher who wasn't repressed. -Patti gave Troy a thumbs-up, although she'd rather have Eric Bana parking his shoes under her bed than Brad Pitt. -Nan survived the joys of calling folks on the lord's day, but barely. She also added a new piece to chapter 15: www.livejournal.com/users/nandibble/12610.html and gave us a fanfic recommendation featuring VampGiles and Glory: www.angelfire.com/rebellion/riani1/fic.html-Matthew, Rachael, Anne, Barbalurina and Spring had a fascinating and thoughtful discussion about Willow on pp 12-20. Over the course of the conversation they noted how Willow's darkness was part of her virtually from the start; her issues with self-esteem, self-discipline and maintaining self-control; her penchant for the quick fix; and the corrupting influence power had on her. Comparisons were drawn with Wesley's trips off the deep end, with Diane noting that more often than not, Wes is excused for killing his true love's murderer (Knox), while Willow is usually villified. Spring & Matthew discussed their varying degrees of sympathy for Wes and Willow's actions and how both of them were very self-absorbed when it came to their own anguish, not caring if they hurt innocents in pursuit of their goals. Spring wondered if Willow's anger at Warren wasn't in part self-directed, given the parallels draw between the characters over the course of season 6. -Rachael and Matthew missed Shanno. Rachael's day with her dad was good, though--big yay for that. -Rob didn't post much, but he made it count: on page 17 he contributed an excellent argument that it wasn't that Buffy changed the people around her; it's that because of their relationships with Buffy her friends were frequently put into situations that brought out both the best and worst aspects of their characters. Or, as Rob rephrased it: "the Slayer didn't make them who they are--it EXPOSED who they are." -Diane, patti-itis, page 18. -The Willow discussion led to a sidebar about the nature of addiction among Matthew, Rachael, Shanno and Julia. Rachael pointed out that addiction is primarily a change in brain chemistry, and is usually about hiding and sedation. Julia noted that one's feelings before and for one's addiction of choice reinforce one's addictive behaviors, while both Shanno and Julia noted that addictions are spawned by an empty, searching feeling within the addict in question. Naturally none of this has anything to do with how much time some of us spend on the S'cubie board... -Shanno patti-itis, pg 19-20. She confessed to some very mixed feelings about the new house she's in the process of moving into, which are naturally being exacerbated by the personal issues she's dealing with. Needless to say, she gots of support from her fellow S'cubies. -Julia provided some more links to beautiful flowers: www.helpmefind.com/rose/pl.php?n=1455home.hiwaay.net/~oliver/lydarose.htmwww.justourpictures.com/roses/sallyholmes3.htmlwww.justourpictures.com/roses/altissimo.htmlwww.justourpictures.com/roses/goldenwings.html-Erin was her own barber--not necessarily the wisest course of action when one is stressed... -Spring saw a rerun of the Buffy season 3 ep when Buffy and Angel trick Faith into believing he's Angelus and saw many, many foreshadowings of themes and events to come. -And Rachael shared a fascinating new method for cleaning a toilet bowl. I'm sure there's been more since I started typing, but I don't care--I'm posting this now, consequences be damned. As always, remember to wash your hands, beware of playing poker with anyone nicknamed "Slim," and bear in mind it's hard to go wrong when keeping to the code: Eschew the badger. Embrace the bonobo. Enjoy your inner bitca. Assume the IMO. Defy the chicken. Eat some chocolate. And be excellent to each other. Procrastinatingly yours, Sara

Since it appears that today is one of those days where I've been particularly adept at sticking my foot in my mouth, here's hoping I do better at paraphrasing other people's words. There tends to be fewer opportunities to screw up, at any rate (becca, not a word): -Congratulations to Julia on not only reaching 5000 posts but on having already blown way past the landmark. -A few folks mentioned how much they...enjoy the end of "Smashed," prompting an interesting discussion as to why we find darkness and danger so appealing. Everyone seemed to think Shanno summed it up best, so I'm gonna cheat and quote her: A few folks mused on how they'd like to express their dark side: Gail's fantasy involves Spike, Angel and oil... -Gail and cal eetahed Patti's Eric Bana love. -Matthew's absence prompted some concern that he might be lost in his happy place; Shanno reluctantly volunteered to go find him. -Shanno's work trip apparently requires her to get a tattoo--she's taking suggestions as to what it should be. The only requirement is prettiness. Some of the ideas she's kicking around can be found here: www.nga.gov/cgi-bin/pimage?68979+0+0www.nga.gov/cgi-bin/pimage?68973+0+0cgfa.sunsite.dk/okeeffe/p-okeeffe4.htmwww.allposters.com/gallery.asp?aid=144988&item=122165www.michelangelo.com/okeeffe/images/redcanna-icon.jpgwww.michelangelo.com/okeeffe/images/grayline-icon.jpg-The origins of the word "ebulgent" were examined. I'm just waiting for the day it makes it into the OED myself. -Julia shared the quiet, mundane, not at all risky details of her life story on page 27. -England now has electric teakettles. Just FYI. -Some slight frustration was expressed by the moms on the board towards those who believe partially ajar doors are, in fact, shut and that items lying on their side in the general vicinity of their proper place are indeed properly put away. Oh, and breadcrumbs. -Lots of love for "Pangs." -Rachael worked all day. Really. Except for the moment when she almost went Illyria on the lab next door when the bass notes of their music screwed up her ability to concentrate, although Rachael readily acknowledged it was the concentration part that was the biggest irritant. Shanno confessed to using a few naughty words when she had some music issues of her own this morning. And look at that--I'm back on page 33. Thus endeth another recap. Hope everyone weathered their Monday in decent shape, or at least found a place to bury the bodies of those who pissed them off. I remain as ever, Your humble scribe, Sara

21 pages... -Congratulations to Matthew for hitting--and cruising past--3000 posts. -Sue's back! Well, not back on the board back, but almost. -Folks say that, in a way, they're more themselves here, which is a terrific feeling for all concerned. But I'm not sure I'm the only one shocked to learn we even have a maturity threshold, although the news of high estrogen levels on the board is no surprise whatsoever... -becca envisioned scenarios where Roger brought Wes back, and provided a very bad visual of Roger turning to surrogates to continue the family line; she also wondered if there might not be two competeing watcher's councils: one formed by Giles, one by Roger. -Most of us feel reluctant about sharing this place with people we know--it's ours, dammit. Rob related a story about inviting his sister to read his fanfic and getting a weird response. -Julia: you may be an equal opportunity grouch, but you're our equal opportunity grouch, and we wouldn't have you any other way. Oh, and on a related front we have some good news--Julia doesn't own any axes, much less any axes of evil. -Rachael alerted us to the arrival of a large piece of Kryptonite in the lobby of the building she works in. Actually it's a butt-ugly metallic green sculpture, but calling it Kryptonite gives it a semblance of coolness the actual piece sorely lacks. Different uses for said eyesore proposed proposed by various S'cubies were: sticking magnetic poetry words on it (unfortunately, Rachael later discovered it's not metal); using a ten-foot pole to place silly hats on the behemoth (Matthew helpfully reminded us which hats are best for throwing); establishing a game that involves throwing items into designated areas; garbing it in festive holiday ensembles; tossing things onto it from above; throwing on some tennis shoes tied together by the laces. -Shanno made the observation that the Jossverse is, in large part, about people figuring out/accepting/being who they are. And that the important thing is to never let fear stop you from trying to become yourself. -Barbalurina, Julia, Matthew and I were less than thrilled with the Alias season finale. CJ fans are less than pleased with NBC and their airing choices. -Karen's bike got stolen, but her son managed to liberate it from its kidnapper an hour later. Grr arrgh. -S'cubiefesters--read the S'cubiefest board. -Matthew, Shanno and Rachael did some early Wednesdaying on page 10. Barbalurina joined in on page 11. It all boiled down to comparing apples and oranges. And raspberries. -Julia always prefers incomprehensible to mundane. -There was this whole conversation about men, women and tantrums that I think I've got boiled down to: men think grown women who cranky like little girls are adorable; everyone thinks grown men crankying like little boys is annoying and occasionally scary. All agree that crankying in public is always unacceptable, and that it's good to find someone who lets you be a cranky kid occasionaly in private. -Gay clubs are in many ways much better than straight ones. -Matthew apparently invaded Rachael's brain, but is going to immediately move out. Rachael considered remodeling the space, prompting Matthew to suggest trepanning--drilling holes in the skull to relieve pressure on the brain. Julia noted that it was also sometimes done to effect the release of evil spirits. Matthew quickly assured Rachael he did not have that last aspect of the technique in mind when he suggeted it, as he thinks she's much more fun with the evil spirits intact. Rachael insisted she'd be keeping hers regardless--she likes 'em because they're quirky -Caraleigh shared a link to a fic: www.allaboutspike.com/fic.html?id=1066-Barbalurina put Matthew to sleep with a foot and back massage. He woke up long enough to play a quick round of pool with Rachael, who reminded all concerned that when it comes to Diane's cue there's just one rule: no touchy. Barbalurina stepped in to join the game, and then she and Matthew played pool and chatted for the entirely of page 18 and much of page 19. Things learned: Matthew was a HR and used to work for an online cruise agency, and he and his brother attended a college graduation together. Barbalurina will be the first one in her immediate family to have earned a BA when she graduates. In August she'll be taking Scene Design and most likely a music course, followed by Directing II in the spring. -reeta is still working on her JM report, but school has her feeling burned out. Don't stress, reeta--just do it whenenver you can. -Spring enjoying her week alone, and with the arrival of her season 6 dvds today she's got plenty of nekkid Spike on the horizon. -The truth is finally out: Erin is Keyzer Soze. And...Ben is Glory. -Rae posted pictures of herself and Caraleigh: homepage.mac.com/raenstorm/PhotoAlbum9.html-makd provided a link to news of the Firefly movie provided by the hero of Canton himself: www.fireflymovie.com/news.html-Diane, Spring and Julia shared their love of Frank Langella's Dracula and of Frank Langella in general. Phew. Finally caught up. And almost in time for me to stop doing my non-work here and go to lunch. Hope everyone is being treated well this Tuesday, but if not just try and keep to the code: Eschew the badger. Embrace the bonobo. Enjoy your inner bitca. Assume the IMO. Defy the chicken. Eat some chocolate. And be excellent to each other. Procrastinatingly yours, Sara

26 pages. 26 pages people. I'm just sayin'... *cracks knuckles* And awaaay we go: -Julia posted a link about a friend of hers: 209.130.125.208/entertainment/content/nightlife/20040523/56879.shtml-Matthew and Barbalurina are getting their own room. -Patti and Spring wondered what the point of dvd easter egg is. -Erin's a little nervous about who's directing the movie of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, as it's the same guy who's directed both Shrek movies. -Erin wrote a letter to her CEO protesting the employees' crappy-ass raises when he makes half a mil and got a bonus. Not only was she not fired, but the CEO told her she made some valid points. The hero of S'cubieland, the gal we call...saucy. -Sandy finally saw "Not Fade Away" and was just as moved as the rest of us. -Diane wants to open a Starbucks next to Quark's place on the DS9 promenade. -makd provided funs links to: Nashville: home to the slayage conference and to S'Cubiefest I www.newschannel5.com/content/weather/Vandy_skycam.shtmlVancouver: home of long summer nights and short winter days www.vancouverscenes.comBermuda: just listen..... www.bermudashorts.bm-Some love for School of Rock and Ghostbusters-Diane and I explained to becca the mysterious methods of egg separating. Patti helped too--several pages later... -Riff returned with a smokin' new avatar of AD and lots of residual finale anger. He, Anne and Rachael commisserated. Bonus points to Rachael for having so long refrained from entendring the "action" in Riff's "Action Watcher" moniker. Riff gave her a pat... on the back. Or so they say... -Knox: still isn't dead enough. -We're gonna need a bigger boat. -What isn't better than tweed? Except disco polyester, but then wearing nothing but shrimp is better than disco polyester... -The movie that shall not be named: ST: TMP (see, didn't name it--initialed it) -Rachael opened the floor to the question of what we might do next here on the board. Shanno suggested devoting a week or so on a rotating basis to a discussion of a particular character, an idea eetahed by Karen and Matthew. becca suggested working our way through old Buffy episodes one by one. I also, in a moment of utter madness, offered to write Firefly reviews over the summer if we need something to talk about. -Julia confessed her "I need a hug" avatar is an attempt to maintain homeostasis with Rachael's. We may see new faces on Wednesday, though. -Riff contributed a link to an interview with the new Dr. Who (requires Realtime player): www.bbc.co.uk/cult/doctorwho/features/eccleston/index.shtml-Matthew threw a brick at Rachael, and confessed to wanting to toss one Riff's way at times--it's an alpha-male thing. Shanno made a deal--he leaves Riff alone, she puts aside the one she has with Barba's name on it. Shanno and Matthew had a chat about territorality out by the hot tub, where she gave him a mantra to learn. -Julia's son will not let her dispose of his four old pairs of jeans, even though he now has two new pairs. Rachael noted that she's talking about a teenage boy, member of a tribe that "wear underwear until there's just elastic and two underwear molecules holding it together." Hee. What is it with guys and disintegrating clothes, anyway? -Rachael can't pull off Matthew's growl, but does a mean wildcat snarl. Riff wants to hear it some time. Shanno conjured up a delightful image of Rachael in the rafters, waiting to pounce. Rachael pointed out that the vanishing S'cubies who never return are invariably female, and were last seen flirting with Riff. Draw your own conclusions... -A music discussion wove in and out of a few pages, particularly in the last pages of part 181: Iggy Pop, Metallica, the Eagles, Steppenwolf, Pear Jam, Soundgarden, Guns 'N Roses, Master of Puppets, Megadeth, Sleater-Kinney, Deep Purple, and Nirvana were among the artists/acts touched on. Lot of metalheads among the S'cubies, apparently. Riff is going to see Iggy Pop and Metallica next weekend. Rachael temporarily turned green, while Julia saw red. Fonts, that is. -Rachael noted that cats can only "go so far with the pleasure without inflicting pain." -There's a fruit fly named "frizzled 6." No, really. -Rachael no like the techno music. becca and Matthew offered a few songs and sounds they like, concurring that any music from The Matrix was cool. All in all, it seems S'cubie music tastes are varied and eclectic--which is altogether appropriate, IMHO. -It should also be noted that becca started a new part when 181 got far too unwieldy and began tempting the wrath of HWSNBN. Way to save the day, be. -I finally got my Alias finale review up: www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/EpisodeReviewPage/showid-3451/epid-325585/blockid-186904. -Nan lost her voice after putting in a 13-hour day yesterday, so she had to give up on the idea of making up time today. Nan, I hope you feel better soon. -Joshua posited that everyone chooses "pick music that serves as supplamental material to the story of their own lives." Very interesting idea, Joshua--I like it. Karen provided this link for Joshua, who was looking for more Buffy brain food: www.slayage.tv/conference/Proposals/-Nan provided a link to an excellent portrait of a winged Angel: www.tenebris.org/x__art/angel_heaven.html-Julia plans to wallow in Buffy season 6 tomorrow--who's with her? She also let us know that buffyguide.com is indeed temporarily down due to server problems. -Major freakin' A: someone unplugged one of Rachael's computers while it was running an analysis for her. Seriously: whose ass do we have to kick for you? And over an hour later, I'm finally caught up. Did I gloss over a few things? You betcha. Do I care? At this moment, not really. Have a great evening all, and get ready to bring on the toys and bring on the smut--tomorrow it is Wednesday. And Wednesday pretty. ;D Typingly yours, Sara

Because if there's any day that it's important to keep on top of things, it's Smutday... -Julia wondered if she's got any non-mom juices left. I'm thinking Riff would answer that question with a resounding "Yes." -The WB maintained its grip on supreme asshatdom by airing "Not Fade Away" last night in some markets--the first Angel rerun they've shown all season. -makd invited the brain food-seeking Joshua to the Buffyverse conference in Nashville this weekend, and offered Nan some advice for healing her wounded voice. -Anne is combating a yucky stomach. On the good news front, though, she's lost ten pounds. -Julia let us know that actor Richard Biggs of Babylon 5 passed away recently. www.b5tv.com/. becca provided a link to his website, www.richardbiggs.com/, where those so inclined can sign the guestbook. -Rachael wondered if Xander experienced any weirdness reintegrating his memories after he'd been split into two people--was it at all similar to what Wes, Illyria and Connor experienced? She further noted that Giles had the absolute best facial reactions. -Those who've only seen the F/X version of "OMWF" are delighting in watching the uncut version on their new dvds. As well they should. In a roundabout way, though, those omissions are what brought Julia to the board. Much, much love for "OMWF" expressed by all the S'cubies. -Julia highly recommends Doyle's work on AAS--I'm presuming she's provided links to Doyle's work on the fanfic recs thread. -Diane's very eloquent and moving review of "Not Fade Away" is now online. I encourage everyone to take a look-see. -Nan's counting the days until September... She also let us know that footage and dailies from "Wrecked" can be viewed at www.livejournal.com/community/marsters_daily/94783.html?page=1#comments-Some love expressed by the S'cubies for ST: DS9 and ST: Voyager. -Anne provided a story about a discovery that may lead to blue roses--you can read it on page 7. She's also trying to figure out how to fit a dvd player into her budget. My answer being: any way you can. The danger of owning a dvd player, of course, being that then you start buying dvds... -Shanno finds the idea of blue roses somewhat unnerving, while Julia expects the four horsemen to be showing up any day now. Our resident genetics guru Rachael wants a blue rose right now, and provided a brief but excellent defense of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and the good they can do. -There's a weird thing on page 8 where it appears both Anne and Julia wrote the exact same post. I'm very, very confused. -Julia recommended "Fine Gardening" or "Horticulture" for those interested in good gardening magazines. -Erin's boss flirted with bastard-dom but managed to grow a brain at the last minute. Definitely be on the lookout for those 4 dudes on the horses... Oh wait--we're safe. Shanno's boss assumed the asshat duties for the day. Phew--close call. -JM pretty. AD pretty. JM & AD reciting Shakespeare... I'm sorry, what was I saying? Kinda swooned there for a second... Okay--I think that covers the gist of things around here for a Wednesday. So share the smut, unleash your inner wolf, and try to have a place to bury the body before committing an actual crime (Shan--this means you). And always, always keep to the code, for rarely will it lead you astray: Eschew the badger. Embrace the bonobo. Enjoy your inner bitca. Assume the IMO. Defy the chicken. Eat some chocolate. And be excellent to each other. S'cubieliciously yours, Sara
