Ladies and Gentlemen, Welcome to the God-Knows-How-Many-Part Series BETTER KNOW A SCUBIE!
We've made it to an amazing 1000 main discussion threads. That's quite a number and we did it by forming a community of people who know how to act like adults and have become good friends and even family. Let's not forget that Sara and Monnie got married and we have Jan and Rich as a couple. . .. ;D Anyway, we want to celebrate our home and the awesomeness that is us. So, to usher in the next millennium of posting we start with the end of the old millennium's 1000th Main Thread and begin our celebration of what has made the Soulful Spike Society the warm sanctuary that it is to so many fans of Joss Whedon's artistry and that of other talented writers: Our Members-old, new and yet to be, with the first part in the series dedicated to our founder, Alexandra.. Part 1000 is the kick off of our celebration, of unknown duration ( ), entitled “Better Know a S'cubie” where the main discussion threads will be dedicated to individual and groups of members who have made our online community a family. Each thread will be 20 pages in length, so they are bit shorter than normal with the format and rules remaining the same. We hope, however, that everyone who has a story or favorite memory of the honored S'cubie of the part will post and give us all blackmail fodder additional insight, entertainment and joy with their anecdotes, stories and pretties for days to come. ;D Enjoy, everyone! Your S 3 Staff and Stagers

Hey everyone! Sue graciously gave me permission to ask if there is anyone who wants to read the Miles Vorkosigan books that she loaned me lo these many months ago. So, if you want them, PM me the details of where to send them and they'll be on their way.

We have not had a S'cubiefest in three years. At the time we were discussing it there was talk of having it as a cruise.
I would like to know: Is anyone still interested in a Scubiefest cruise?
I'm asking because my daughter Beth (who, BTW, is a member of this board under the name Daughter of D and a Firefly fan) is offering to book it and handle all the details.
She has started a business managing a band. She got the band booked on a Heavy Metal cruise and discovered that she had a knack for doing it. Now she'd like to try her hand at booking specialty cruises. She says that she can arrange it any way we like. Moreover, if I do some artwork for her band she's willing to forego the fee she would normally charge which would bring the price down. She suggests a cost of somewhere between $500 and $650 for room, food, etc. Since previous S'cubiefests have cost me about $1,000 for room, food, airfare, etc., that sounds pretty good.
So I'd like to know, is anybody interested?

NPR is going to broadcast a review of Dollhouse and interview with Joss at 4 pm (I assume central) today
I hope those details are correct. Jim heard it on his car radio on the way to church and just called me so I can't say I heard it myself. Nor do I know if times and programs are only local and not national.
Okay, looking at the local station's schedule it appears to be Sunday's edition of "All Things Considered." So, sometime between 4 and 5 PM central.
[If you see this after the fact they've probably got it archived.]

Hey! Read this! Okeley dokeley...as there have been no major objections and several positive reactions, we're going to revive the old S3 tradition of the Joss Night Main Thread Party. Okay, we never really called it that. But we should have. As y'all know, Dollhouse premieres tonight at 9:00 EST. Back in the day, when Angel and Buffy were airing every week, we had the tradition of starting a new part in the Main Thread and discussing the episode in real time. This tends to make for livelier discussion and potentially a greater chance of attracting n'ubies. Tonight we're reviving that tradition - anyone is free to post in the Dollhouse thread, of course, but the main action will likely be here (actually, in the new part I'll start in an hour or so). The Dollhouse threads themselves will also be used to discuss the reviews of episodes and feedback for the reviewers. The official S3 spoiler rule has always been: once it's aired on the East Coast, it's not a spoiler. HOWEVER, we suggest that, as a courtesy to people on the West Coast who haven't seen it yet, that you do the following: 1) Put "On the Spot Dollhouse Thoughts" as the subject line for your post and 2) Use the spoiler button to hide what you post from those who don't want to see it just yet. Once the episode has aired everywhere, you can stop using spoiler tags, or keep doing so just to be nice...we won't hold it against you either way.

Once the episode has aired everywhere, you can stop using spoiler tags, or keep doing so just to be nice...we won't hold it against you either way. I know the bulletin board is not the place to have this discussion, but I decided to put this here so people would see it and then say that the original post is 2/3rds of the way down page 3 of the current part if anybody wants to respond with their thoughts on the main thread. Opinion: I'm willing to go along with group concensus. I'm also willing to give it another week or two trial but I am going to put this personal opinion out there: After 2 weeks trial, I'm going to reverse my vote and put in one vote to do the Dollhouse discussion primarily on it's episode thread. I know that we used to do the Buffy and Angle discussions on the main thread, but that was years (yeah, actually several/many years) ago and the nature of the main thread has changed somewhat. My reasons for preferring to use the Episode thread: Dollhouse airs fairly late on Friday and (for me at least) discussion is delayed even longer because then I watch BSG. And sometimes I don't even get here until Saturday morning. Unlike Buffy, when I would get up from the show, come to the computer and frantically discuss it "in the moment' with 8-10-12 other S'cubies --- several on the east coast and many in the central zone. We tended to still be here by the time the west coasters started weighing in and re-started major discussion. That is not currently the case. Even our few east coasters are not folks would come by late on a Friday night, and then often not until Monday. Notice in these first 2 weeks that initial discussion has only run to 3-4 pages, primarily 2-3 posters. And (big point here) --- it's not mixed in with other talk ---- it's exclusively Dollhouse discussion. Then, by the time others have watched or Monday morning and people do come back to the Main Thread, they don't always want to go back to the beginning of the thread and have their responses to the Dollhouse posts mixed in with Monday morning chatter. [I'm also thinking about people who are out of town, like Spring and Liz----if we've gone on to a new part by the time they watch and want to read our posts and comment------it's far more difficult to find the original discussion and also to respond to particular comments.]Personally, 1. I'd prefer to post my thoughts on the Dollhouse episode thread where I know others can easily find them when they get around to watching, or as, during the week, they have a thought. 2. I'd prefer everybody else's thoughts to be on the ep thread, where I can easily find the ongoing discussion. I mean, if Pixi, or Anne (just using them as examples of posters who didn't get here last night but might have original thoughts or responses to others' posts in a day or two or three) throws something in somewhere down the line it's entirely possible that it will be swallowed up on the main thread where I will not read it. 3. We have a number of folks who do like to post regularly on the episode threads of Lost, Heroes, BSG, and several of the ILTV threads but who remain reluctant to use the Main Thread. They are extremely unlike, IMO, to start scrolling through the main thread in order to interact primarily on Dollhouse thoughts. To sum up: In truth, what would appear to be the primary negative----having to jump back and forth between the Main and the Episode thread, in fact, turns out for me to be the primary positive: now that we've tried it the other way I find that I like have the Dollhouse thoughts "segregated."
Well, those are my reasons. I decided to lay them out just in case anybody else was thinking the same way. S'okay if not, but I think I"m going to copy my own posts over on the episode thread, for the reasons I listed above.

Feelin' a bit under the gun these days? Tired of feeling like an echo of yourself? Not sure where you are going or where you have been? Well, I have a suggestion for you. Why don't you lose yourself in the... Our dear ex-pat Erin has delivered a highly important document to our organization. This is for your eyes only. Burn after reading. If you do not have S3 clearance level 6, stop reading immediately!
Okay then, if you are still reading this, you must be approved. Erin has written the first of her reviews of dollhouse. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to hack into the S'cubie website and download the data, codenamed: Ghost: Never Fade Away.Should you be captured, the S3 will disavow any knowledge or connection with you. Good luck, S'cubie. This post will self-destruct in 5 seconds. Vlad

Would any of you like like to have my Christmas present from my odd friend Bonnie, who has an even odder co-worker who apparently has an attic full of various collectibles. She gave me an unopened board game: Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Game. I was too curious to leave it unopened but I've saved the original cellophane and you can tell by looking inside that it's never been used (the game pieces are still all attached to one another). I don't even care if you sell it on Ebay. I know I'll never play it and I don't want to just give it to Goodwill. I'd like it to go to a "good home." IM me. [Oh, and if it sells for REAL money, you can send me a share..... ]
