He didn't get visibly out of breath while running because he didn't need the oxygen. He's got "breath" to speak but it's just his dead, non-oxygen-needing muscles moving the air bags behind his vocal chords and making them function for speech. But, being dead, there would be no oxygen in his exhaled breath to use for mouth-to-mouth on a patient. I imagine the same for Angel not being able to resuscitate Buffy. That's my take on it, anyway. ;D |

Just posting this link to be's livejournal because her thinky-thoughts blew me away with their wowness, and I figured that by the time people get to this point, it would be difficult to find prospecting in her journal, and I want others to be able to share in her interesting thinkiness. be's thoughts on Dr. Owen Harper(hope I'm not being too presumptuous, be, I was just rather impressed. ) |

I figured he was just being dippy, as he had full control over all his voluntary muscles, so he could have bellowed in, then bellowed out. He's not rotting yet, so no noxious gasses being exhaled: he just freaked and didn't think he could do it because of the whole "Oh, woe is me, I'm all dead" thing. Which, y'know, I can't really blame him for... Same as Angel in Prophecy Girl. If you can smoke and you can talk, you can pump air out: better than things that are alive, because the air you're pumping out is not diminished with your own CO 2 waste-products. Angel just never had studied CPR, is all. |

Owen finally said he was sorry! Whoo hoo! I was right--I said he would one day eat his words when he said "I don't do apologies."
Of course, he had to DIE before he did it...I guess that would have been too anvilicious if Owen's exact line was, "I'll apologize over my dead body!" Heee.
I really didn't like Jack asking Owen when he was going to "get over it." Uh, you made him give up his gun and his badge and you relegated him to making tea. He can't eat, drink or shag. I say he can take as much time as he wants to get over it!
Kind of like the way Buffy's friends treated her in Season 6--of course they weren't that obviously rude about it, but at times their attitude was "just get over it."
From the way the ep ended, I take it that Owen gets to be a member of Torchwood again. But how, when the same issues are rearing their head? He can still get hurt and won't be able to mend.

Yeah, Owen has some issues, but that probably just means it's illegal to fire him under the Disability Discrimination Act. I like what they're doing with Owen. And I like how the more I poke at Owen the more he fits together in a more hero looking way. And how the specifics from what happened to him - hungry, fragile - fit in interesting ways with his more annoying character traits. Owen can be damaged, and will not mend... and if he's okay with that then why shouldn't the rest of the team be? He has to live with that body, whatever state it's in, but if he can then #shrugs# . And, yeah, damage would be of the bad... but what good would sending him away from Torchwood do? He's just demonstrated it wouldn't be less damaging, given that all the bad that happened to him post mortem so far was self inflicted. (  ) Owen wants to use whatever time he has, in whatever state he ends up, to help save the world a lot. Pretty cool. Why stop him? |

Oh, Owen. "Everyone's doing the same thing." "They think I'm fine. But I'm not." Oooh, excellent visual, with the underwater screaming. And just like the last ep, he's an unusual and rather good "anti-death" speech-giving guy. Let us help you, let us make sure you're safe. Hmmmm. Let us test you like we test the aliens and so on we grab. So, we see one of the themes of the season move even closer to us. How humane are we going to be to the non-human? Excellent scene with Owen and Ianto. Owen so full of frustration and anger (I don't blame him, really); Ianto so contained and quietly helpful (which is so very typically Ianto). And they know he's 100% human now, not aging, can presumably go on forever. So, he just needs to find ways to enjoy himself, and there ya go! |

Heeeee! Everyone trading drinks behind Owen's back.  Secretive rich guy, hmmmmm. I do like seeing how in-charge Gwen is. So, is the suicide woman he's talking to all happening after the events of the ep, or . . . ? I really don't think Martha wants to take your job Owen. And I think that she and Jack are right (as she points out) that he's "fragile". Hmmmm. Hadn't thought of that element of his deadness. It definitely is a downside to it all. OK, the suicide woman is after this stuff. "Sorry." "No, you're not. . . . Just because we're both planning on jumping doesn't mean we have some special connection."  "You don't know the half of it." So, this is sort of like anti-denial acceptance of your death stuff, eh? Getting rid of all the stuff you don't need, can't use. Food and medicines and so on. But not in a happy way. I'm thinking this is a "why keep going on" moment.
So, of course Tosh comes by. And she probably sees this as keeping him in the loop, acting like nothing's wrong. But he's just totally isolated.
Oh. Damn! Accident leaving their wedding? Damn! That's rather horrible.
"I believed them when they said it would get better." And that's the question for him too. Will things get any better?
"For some reason, you want me." And so he lashes out at her now. "I'm broken." And so he procedes to break himself more - to prove his point.
And here comes the underwater screaming, I'm betting. So, he's hoping to end it all? But he's already ended - already dead. So now he'll just be dead and wet.

Aaaand here's Jack. "Skinny guy in tight jeans runs into water? I was taking pictures." How long is this gong to go on for? I'm guessing until Owen decides to stop. Ah. Body heat sensors, so this is a job for a dead guy! Heee! And Owen thinks the same thing. Oh, poor Tosh! Oh, poor woman on the roof! Oh, poor Owen! Man of glass. True. So, what was the sort of screamy sound the one guy heard? Animal? Anyway, nice coordination of the burglary stuff. Heh! Tin tin shirt and Owen's impressive electrical "I'm dead already" stuff and "too cool for school". ;D And he really does get to be cool, doesn't he? The great speech to the security guard and all. "I'm broken." And "I'm Dr. Owen Harpe and I'm having one hell of day." ;D |

So, is it the guy himself who is sending out the energy stuff? Or something he's using to keep himself alive? Or . . . ? "You're a very violent doctor, I've been watching you." Heeee! He likes Tosh's legs. Yep. He's using something to keep himself alive. Ah, but it isn't really doing anything for him. Or at least Owen says so. Ah. Comparing death ideas. There's nothing on the other side. "Where are you now? It's dark and you're alone now. What's the difference?" Done so much and this is where I end up. Well, yes. That's where most of us will end up. I might as well be dead. So, Owen's met another "talk them out of or talk them into death" person. And the thing really wasn't keeping him alive. Owen's going to come back. Heee! I want to hear about the aliens, wants to know there's more out there.  Owen's going to try to keep him going, he's still a doctor first. Couldn't give him breath. So, just like he can't eat, no ability to move air with his lungs, etc. And it's the idea of not being able to be completely a doctor that makes him really not want to be there. Gonna try to absorb the energy even if it makes him die . . . saying good bye to them all again. And he does say he's sorry. |
