I gotta say, I didn't it coming that random FBI guy was the siren. I was pretty sure that he was going to be the next victim or something. And was MD Chick just an innocent random hook up misdirection?

i thought this episode was really well done from a plot standpoint. when the big "reveal" came, i realized immediately how obvious it was now that i knew it, yet beforehand i had been as tricked as dean into misbelieving it was the tech/doctor - so much so that i was suspicious of her before dean was! i also thought it was an interesting way to get them to talk about their feelings and thoughts without them actually WANTING to talk about them, if that makes sense. plus, i was relieved ruby wasn't actually in the episode (what can i say, i still think the actress sucks) and when it began, i was thinking, "i wonder if bobby's in this one. we haven't seen him in a while," and was happy to soon see jim beaver listed in the cast. however, i am still missing the main arc. i don't entirely get why they laid it all out right before the break and have now spent three episodes not addressing much of any of it - no castiel, none of the other angels, no broken seals (as far as we know). i like it best when shows like this mix episodes mainly about the arc with diversionary episodes, and manage to sneak in bits of the arc even during the latter. and given the lack of a promo at the end, i'm guessing the show is back off the air next week.

My guess is that they've backed away from the main arc because they're going to bring it back for sweeps the way shows often do.

The twop recap alerted me to the homoerotic associations of the Hyacinth. Heh.

I think because of the digital switchover Sweeps month was moved to March.

it's been a week since the show came back and nobody's talked about last week's episode yet. overall i enjoyed it, but i am not sure why they can't get better actors to play alistair. i thought the first one was better than the one we saw earlier this season, but then he quickly disappeared to be replaced by an actor whose voice makes me grate my teeth. (seriously, i spend every moment he's talking fighting the urge to fast-forward because his voice is so irritating to me.) i was disappointed to see in the promo that the same actor will be playing alistair in tonight's episode.
however, i did find the return of tessa to be interesting, and it was interesting to have dean suddenly remember what happened when he temporarily died (i wonder if those memories will stick with him). i have to say that so far i agree with her that dean's ideas of what the angels have in store for him seem overly idealized (kudos as ever to jensen ackles; i hadn't fully realized how dean felt about it till he told tessa, and yet jensen is such a good actor that i realized when he said it that it made perfect sense with the way dean has been behaving this season), and yet dean's conversation with castiel at the end served as an interesting counterpoint to tessa's comments. i wonder if we will see anna again...

i wonder if we will see anna again... Dude, I think your next post should include the words "I wonder if a million dollars will fall out of the sky and land at my feet..." HA! i thought similar things last night. ;D this episode broke my heart for poor dean: the montage of him, physically weak and silently crying at the end of the episode, saying he wasn't strong enough, was so visually and emotionally compelling. castiel questioning what he'd been told to do thus far and asking anna to tell him what to do instead reminded me of people i've known who've gone from zealously espousing/following one thing right on to zealously espousing/following something different when they drop the first thing. i liked that anna told him in response that it was time to start thinking for himself. and the reveal of uriel's true beliefs fit in quite well, i thought, with the things he'd said and ways he'd behaved in previous episodes. interesting that he wanted to get a demon to do his "dirty work" for him so that he could deny all responsibility for dean's death; it also explains, i think, why he kept acting over the season like he wanted to kill dean but never actually doing it. sam's "secret strength" was so many kinds of ew. when he went after dean, i kept thinking it was going to end so very badly for sam (i think i actually said to the screen, "sam, this is a really, really stupid plan") because of how he was using demon blood (ew, ew, ew) to amp up his powers and because people on the show seem to be as discomfited by the demony things sam does as viewers can be, and was really surprised that instead he ended up saving dean's life, keeping castiel down on earth (how interesting that demons can send angels back to heaven!), and killing alistair (to which i give a resounding YES!). it seemed like sam's general attitude this season of "the ends justify the means" actually sometimes works out on the show, at least temporarily. i still think the actress playing ruby sucks, though. i think i could keep blathering on about this episode for ages, but i'll stop here. ;D what did you all think?
