That's true. Jason is dumber than...? a bag of hammers? a box of rocks? Couldn't pour piss out of a boot with instructions on the heel? He's definitely in over his head with Little Ms. Vampire Hunter from Storrs. Oh, yeah. He is dumb, but he has a good heart. I wonder what the girlfriend has in mind for him. There is more to her than just being a psychopath. You think she's some sort of bad witch or gypsy? She has the look about her - with the dark and all - if we were going with stereotypes.

Agreed. Feel the same about Bill and Rene and Lafayette. Sookie is growing on my and I adored Grandmama. I think the cops are basically good guys and her brother has issues. I like Tara, but I wish she'd find her demon and exorcise it like the voodoo priestess said. Her mother is grating on my very last nerve. I don't know who Rene is. Or, if I do, I can't visualize him. Tara's mother seems to have more than one demon living in her. For all that Tara has endured because of her, she isn't very compassionate towards her own daughter.

Good to see him. But I feel bad for his character. First Lafayette uses him, and now Jason and his scary girlfriend. Tara went to get an exorcism--my guess is that it won't change much. Yeah Stephen Root's character is so sad. I love seeing him play a serious character since he usually plays comedic ones.

FYI, there are a a bunch of auxillary sites to the show out there. Haven't looked at them yet, myself. Love Bitten: a vampire dating site. Tru Beverage: about the synthetic tru blood. Fellowship of the Sun: an anti-vampire rights site. American Vampire League: a pro-vampire rights site. Blood Copy: a blog about vampire issues. Also, there's a free prequel comic which is supposed to be available on the HBO site, but I could only see "free with purchase" when you buy show paraphernalia. I couldn't figure out how to get a hold of it without buying anything.

Literally LOL'ing! So true. Jason bugs the crap out of me. Sam: Some kind of shapeshifter, if not an outright werewolf. Further, I think that Bill knows what Sam is, but hasn't told Sookie yet. (Well, I haven't watched the most recent ep yet, so he may have shared that by now).
Anna Paquin and the actor who plays Bill are dating in real life. Puts an interesting spin on some of their scenes. Yay! Good call on what Sam is. And hilarious reveal!!! She calls him 'Dean' - and his real name is 'Sam'? A Supernatural shoutout, do you suppose? Next week looks rockin'. They are getting into the down and dirty now. I just wish there was a bit more comedy relief. It is dark, dark, dark. There was a little bit of comedy this week, though again, it was pretty dark. When the female vamp told Sookie she had vampire in her cleavage, then picked it out for her, I laughed. Of course, they needed to lighten things a bit after showing what was probably the bloodiest scene I think I have ever viewed in my life. The blood gushing out of the vampire and soaking Sookie until she looked like Sissy Spacek in Carrie was so over the top gross! And then afterwards, with the human waitress(?) freaking out and running her hands through bloody vampire remains!!!! GAAAAAHHHH*shudder*burble. The other thing that was funny was Jason's misunderstanding of organism: "Yeah, mine was huge." Hee! I also enjoyed the reaction of Sam and Sookie when he woke up naked at the end of her bed. Pretty cute. And, I gotta say, I like the fact that there is (for once) more males doing nude scenes than females.

I just started.
Love Lafayette. And I love Sookie's grandmother- I've seen that actress many times over the years and she's wonderful. She even looks like she could be Anna Paquin's grandma.
I'm going to have to be careful about reading because I'm only on episode 3.
Has anyone read the books?

I'm allowed to hate Jason, right? He's stupid and vile.

Love Tara and Lafayette. I just don't understand why the two of them aren't ruling the world.

I've been watching the show faithfully, some episodes more than once. They seem to be pretty close to admitting that Sam is some sorta were-creature which I have been having fun with the clues all this time. The other big mystery that they jsut give us tidbits on is .... well, frankly I don't know what to call it. In the first episode when Sookie confronts the two red-neck blood scavengers trying to drain Bill, she throws the chain she is wielding as a weapon at the guy and it wraps around his throat and seems to continue choking him. Then in one or two later episodes she seems to hit at things with much greater force than a 110 pound girl oughtta be able. Are we supposed to be thinking that Sookie has more abilities than the mind-reading that she already knows about? Is she also telekinetic? This is all jsut guessing. I haven't read the novels (tho' Shan's step-mom has and nearly spoiled me on a couple things . As it was I managed to only get spoiled on a tiny, tiny detail. ) I hope that anyone that has read the books will constrain themselves from speculating (or telling us when we are wrong as hell in our own.) Yeah, something is definitely going on with Sookie. Like Bill said, she doesn't taste like other humans either.
Bill's kind of growing on me. I like the way he speaks and behaves as if it's still the 1860's. So different from his nesty cohorts. Also interesting that this show contends the very act of living in a group makes vamps more savage.

I've also been watching. I've read all the novels, so I'm saying as little as possible. Except, the show is deviating from the novel in major ways, which I'm glad of, because I'm now so confused about what may or may not be spoilers that I anticipate the day when having read the books will mean nothing. Three important changes from the book: *Tara doesn't appear until the 2nd book, she wasn't black in the book, she wasn't a key player in the book - she owned a fashionable clothing store. I'm assuming they needs Sookie to have a confidante. *In the books, everything we see is from Sookie's POV. *The importance of "V" as a plot point....In the books, it is mentioned as a very very minor side issue, never really addressed much. I'm wondering this myself. Not that the novels are reliable guides anymore... Sookie's strength, and beauty, and sexuality waxes and wanes based on the blood she's taken from Bill. When he healed her with his blood, she became "more" than human, temporarily, and worried she would become a vampire. But, in the book, she swings the chain at the drainer dude before feeding off Bill, so? ? One thing I loved about the novels is that the author really did a good job working out the ramifications of a vampire culture and how it would interact with "coming out" to a modern culture. The books are a little gothic at times, but also contain some cleverly original ideas about the nature of vampires.

It's starting to glum me out. Maybe once I get caught up and just see an hour a week (when it's in season) it won't be such a downer.
I'm really missing the energy and humor of Buffy (although they're not really from the same planet, are they?).
