I'm afraid you may be right about the reasons behind Sylar's seesawing. Also? I think the folks doing the show see this as daring and edgy and ambiguous. But, it's just not being done well enough for that, there's not enough logic/sense behind the swings. i agree. the showrunners/writers seem to think they're being daring and novel. if the story were written in a better way, and with more explanation, then maybe they'd be right. as it is, though, it just seems like random swinging back and forth, as if sylar has turned from a watch into a wildly swinging pendulum.
