I always thought how interesting it was that the crossover between Buffy and Angel really was a three-episode arc: "The Bachelor Party" provided the vision, Angel went to Sunnydale in "Pangs," and Buffy went to LA in "I Will Remember You." On a purely practical note, it was, as far as cross-promotion goes, very well orchestrated... Oh, definitely. Masterful, actually. How he interwove the storylines, to show us an essential step in Buffy's maturation, which is what I think her break from Angel really was, whether or not it was orchestrated by him. He didn't take away the day for her growth, but because he figured the world needed both of them to fight evil and of course, he couldn't bear the thought of her dying. Never mind that she, being human, is destined to die whether he likes it or not. Oh, I'm rambling here too! **nods nods nods** She's not only destined to die someday, being mortal, but also virtually guaranteed to die young, what with the slayer thing and all. Which probably is part of why friends and creating a family are even more important. And the arc is also needed to show Angel established and with his own life and purpose in LA. Show him to Buffy and to us the audience as having a reason for existance that goes beyond his connection to her.

Copying over from the Festival Thread, I said: Aaaaack! I only got 70% correct. I am so ashamed, especially since 'Pangs' is my all around favorite Buffy episode. Jane Espenson rocks! There are so many quotable quips from Pangs. So much funny! "You made a bear!" And I love the scene near the beginning: Anya : (Inscensed.) What's she doing? Xander said he was going to dig. I want to see Xander dig.
Buffy : That's part's just ceremonial.
Anya : Well, it bites. She's not rippling at all. Oh. Look, there he goes. (We see Xander begin digging in earnest. She sighs.) Look at him.
Willow : Very...Diggy.
Anya : Soon he'll be sweating. I'm imagining having sex with him again.
Buffy : Imaginary Xander is quite the machine. Interesting how we hear about the Anya/Xander sex and then he gets the funny syphillis. Fantastic announcement post, Fotada. Love it! I love Anya so much. I love love love Xander and Anya so very very much. And Pangs has such Xander and Anya goodness in it - like your quote above!! Or . . . "I'm imagining having sex with him right now." "We'll die together. It's romantic. Let me get your trousers off." "It'll make you blind and insane, but it won't kill you. The smallpox will. . . . . You're gonna get vesicles and pustules. They have pictures." "So this is Angel. He's large and glowery, isn't he? . . . What's he like when he is evil?" ;D ;D ;D ;D I always loved how straightforward Anya was about her attraction to Xander. All the rest of the gang can be so . . . uncomfortable and convinced of their own dorkiness, so they cover with banter and jokes and "candles and pretense" - but Anya just says what she thinks. She loves Xander and she loves sex with Xander. And that's just neat!! ;D

I could see why Xander, despite his Buffy-issues and Anya's . . . unconventional ways . . . was attracted to her. She really did love him very much, and was the only person who never saw him as a "second best" or "sidekick" in any way. He was numero uno with her, always, as Riley points out to Xander, later. Emma C was perfect casting for the role.

I would just like to add my love for this episode. Anya is wonderful. The whole family theme really shines in this episode. Especially since the beginning of this season the gang has not done much together.
Much love for this episode! Much love!

And like any family get togethers there is bickering and arguing, but in the end it is all about being together. And enevitably somebody always ends up being tied up in a chair. (or is that just thanksgiving at my house?)

(or is that just thanksgiving at my house?) Heeee! So, like Xander, your house must be all "anticipation, a big fight, and now we're all sleepy", then, eh?

And it fits with how they're gonna continue to drift apart and how Spike helps that along and then they all come together (literally) to defeat Adam in the end.
