Very cool ep. To me it had a very Day the Earth Stood Still flavor.
More like The Day the Children Stood Still.
Even the music has that sound to it.
Ooooo.....he can smell that she is pregnant.
Jenny/The First: Hmm. You think you can fight me? I'm not a demon, little girl. I am something that you can't even conceive. The First Evil. Beyond sin, beyond death. I am the thing the darkness fears. You'll never see me, but I am everywhere. Every being, every thought, every drop of hate.
BUFFY: (loses her patience) Alright, I get it. You're evil. Do we have to chat about it all day?
I agree Karen, it reminded me of The Day The Earth Stood Still.
And I agree with you too Erin - I do miss Owen and Tosh (and loved the nod to them with Gwen bidding their photo hello) but it really does seem like this is allowing greater character development in each episode with the three remaining characters.
Two other things I especially loved about this episode are: First, ou see the families at the beginning not realizing how they are important to the story yet (I went back and rewatched the start after I finished the episode, and it was so much more poignant the second time). Secondly, at the end, when the alarm is flashing red in Torchwood, it is echoed by red tones in the other scenes. It especially struck me with Jack's daughter and grandson because the red is blurry, rather unrecognizable, in the foreground. It really ads to the tension and the heightened sense of danger that the scene proffers, I think.
Yay! I'm so happy Torchwood is back, and so happy they're airing them all in one week here in the States! If Syfy were doing it, I bet it'd air over two months (one a week, with a couple random or maybe not-so-random weeks without episodes). ;D
"It's like a song. Now, I can hold a note for a long time--actually, I can hold a note forever. But eventually that's just noise. It's the change we're listening for. The note coming after, and the one after that. That's what makes it music."
- Lorne in the Angel episode "Happy Anniversary" (RIP Andy Hallett)
And now all the kids are stopped! Unstopped. So, did they get instructions from their alien overlords or somthing?
Awwww. Was this guy really just a poor old neighbor, or is this part of a TW case and odd happenings, eh? Odd happenings, of course. Heeee!
"You're Torchwood!" "Never heard of them."
Heh! "Just tell me it's something small. Just tell me it's a meteorite or a shadow on the wall." ;D Yeah, you know it's not going to be something small.
Jack is going to be checking out the thing the doctor mentioned. Ah, and Gwen and the Unit guy have the same info.
Oh!! They're gonna recruit the doctor guy!
Trouble between Ianto and Jack? Or just differening vibes on couple-dom?
I have to say, I like the Whoverse/TWverse version of Earth that exists now in their canon - where aliens and so on are known. At least by the people willing to admit what they've seen. They get to build on that, explore what it would be like, how people would react.
Stopped again - oh and now with creepy bodysnatchers screaming! Eeeep!
"We are coming." I'm with Gwen - I would so totally be OMG too. Cree-py!
Oh, and an old guy! That's new. And meaningful, eh? He is one of the kids from the bus at the start, I'm betting!
New assistant woman is going to get all mixed up in this, yes? The password info was a dead give-away.
Who is the dude and what did he "warn" the guy about? Warned about the old kids on the bus thing in Scotland. What is the 456?
Hee! I love Gwen and Rhys snarking with each other. "Top secret." "You haven't got a clue, have ya?" ;D
Also? Rhys is clever to add in one more thing pointing that this is directed at England, at them.
The 456 is the aliens? And British government knew about it, but didn't tell others? "You never told me about it."
Uncle Jack, hmmmmm . . . And Uncle Ianto.
Oh, so she is his daughter! Take the kid out . . . and she knows full well why he wants to find a kid. So, he gets one from the doc instead.
"Havin' dinner. In a restaurant. With a man." Heee! A gorgeous film-star-like, escort-like man. ;D
Oh, I'm liking these glimpses into each of their lives and families. Very real.
The car! And throwing bricks after them! Ah ha ha ha ha!! ;D
"I think aliens are using you to speak. What do you think?" "The technical name is a gizmo." ;D
So, did the government try to buy off these aliens by giving them those kids all those years ago? And he ran away. And now they're back, to get more? To get what they held off from doing before?
I like the little knuckle bumps and how she draws him out.
If this guy says he can smell you are pregnant, then I'd guess you really are Gwen.
And now the different government arms all work to cover their own asses and try to keep TW from finding out stuff, don't they.
Whoa! Kill list? And Jack's on it? But don't they know Jack can't die?
OMG! The doc? The doc was one of the secret special government agent guys?! Damn! He was a spy trying to infiltrate TW. Damn!
"Timothy" smells them coming.
Oh crap. They do know he can't die. "We'll keep killing him until he's ready." Well, hell. But they have no idea why he keeps coming alive again, at least there's that.
You stupid doctor guy. What did you think they were going to do with you after what you did and saw and all?
"Did they kill you?" "Yeah." **hug, hug, pat, pat** "Boy have I had a day!"
And she is pregnant, of course!
Oh, cool! And that's how they find out he's got a bomb in him!!
Yay! Romance novel final kiss and get them out to save them and the kids all creepy message and whoopsie, there it goes!
