i don't know - he's done so many morally questionable things that it seems like it should be more surprising to the TW gang than to us as audience members. though i suppose some of that stuff was mentioned on DW rather than TW.

i'm curious how ianto and gwen are going to react!

i loved so many little moments about this episode that i'm not even sure where to begin talking about it. i loved the scene where frobisher walks out into the hallway and just slides down the wall till he's sitting with his head in his hands. i loved the scene where jack says "the world could be ending" and ianto replies "the world's always ending" (i could imagine that dialogue on buffy!). i loved when the children are all pointing and you get the montage where one character after another figures out a piece of the puzzle till you finally realize the whole answer and then see the light pouring down from the sky into thames house.

I agree; Jack was originally presented to us as a morally questionable character, in fact. We've known for a long time that he'll do something less than completely moral in order to gain...for example...information about his missing life. Hell, he started out as a thief posing as a Time Agent, didn't he?

So I'm not surprised to find out he might have done this. I suspect he thought it was for the best - I just want to know WHY, now.

Oh, and Rhys? Still not the best husband ever. I'm very "meh" about him - I just have a thing about hyperjealous guys, and he's treading the line, for me. I wouldn't have been in a relationship with him long enough to marry him, that's for sure.

His reaction to finding out others knew about Gwen's pregnancy was irritating. She found out by using alien technology at work, after all. She's so early that no HPT on the planet would have been able to pick it up.

Oh, I know! I still don't really like him either.

Though in fairness, we don't know that he knew just how early on she was at the time - but he reaction does fit in more generally with his attitude (especially towards Jack), which I think lends the audience to believing he DID know. Or at least didn't care.

That's how he was first introduced to us on DW, yeah. I'm not sure if it's actually where he started out his career but it's what we know so far.

Another use of the phrase about being "on the front line", only this time with a full understanding of what that really means and a good reason for it.

What did it feel like, getting blown up. "I felt it." "Shit."

"I'm a fixed point in time and space." And Ianto gets a vision of the life that Jack's daughter was talking about.

"The world's always ending."
"Should take about 20 minutes." "Thirty."

Oh, Jack knows this story. He knows what happened!

Damn, they're going for his daughter.

Well, we've seen his ruthless side on TW a bit too, but his crew maybe doesn't know all of it . . . or want to remember/admit perhaps.

Oh, I just see all that as the way that Rhys and Gwen routinely snip and snap at each other. Neither one perfect, each with their own buttons to push and issues to battle.

So I guess it's a little Childhoods End mixed with Storm of the Century.

I watched up to this ep on the first disc, and now I got to wait a couple of days for the second disc. I think this one is really well done, acting, writing, humor, drama. It's compelling and suspenseful and I can see it being scary for those who are scared by such things.
